If we're going to suggest Sutton and Moseley could impact our willingness to take a CB, I think it's worth pointing out that we currently are invested in 6 edge guys still on the roster: Hutchinson, Paschal, Cominsky, Romeo Okwara ($7M salary, $14M cap hit), Harris ($6M salary, $8M cap hit) and Houston. We could still be releasing Okwara and/or Harris to save some $$, but we haven't so far. And Okwara played a decent amount down the stretch coming off the Achilles injury. They seem to really like Harris. I guess what I'm saying is I think there's currently more traffic on the roster at DE/Edge than CB, and I'm not sure we really would be that interested in taking another one at 6.
There is a difference between saying a team is set at a position and thinking they don't need to reach to draft that position. There are still a lot of positions the Lions could/should upgrade. Tyree is a better prospect than the CB by most accounts and I think the team will also view him as such. That =/= I think the team will not draft a CB now. If the Lions view Gonzalez as a better prospect than Tyree I don't think they'd hesitate. But my point is I don't think that's the case
I still think we get rid of Swift. Just need to teach Montgomery the Hingle McCringleberry and everyone will love him
Seattle signed two DTs, if we're doing Jalen Carter watch. Dre'Mont Jones got good money and would seem to play the same position, so maybe that helps come draft night.
Montgomery is probably an upgrade over Jamaal over the course of the contract but doesn't change I wish Jamaal was here for another year. But I can see not wanting to give him a big multi year contract. Montgomery is going from possibly worst OL to one of best so I think he has a pretty nice uptick in his stats next year
The more I consider the Montgomery move, the more I wonder if Swift might be on the move. I consider this unlikely, but Montgomery is a three down back. He’s not as prolific a pass catcher as Swift, but he’s averaging about 40 catches a season. He’s also a solid pass blocker. Again, I doubt Swift gets moved but I’m not dismissing it out of hand.
Montgomery should be better behind a better OL is what I’ve been telling myself, but then I look at Khalil Herbert and realize he played behind the same OL and looked way better. still a great 1-2 punch with upside
I love Jamaal but isn't Montgomery basically the same player who maybe catches a few more passes? I get why they went this direction if Jamaal is gonna get paid somewhere else
I don’t think the lack of testing will end up hurting him, but it’s another question mark surrounding the kid.
I think the added weight hurts him more than no testing. But no testing after the last few weeks also seems like some bad advice from whoever his reps are.
They ended up not hiring Patricia. Slay is also 32 and was set to have a $26 mil cap but this year. Cutting him I think saves them like $18 mil in cap space
Drag racing in an incident that kills a teammate, no issues 9 lbs overweight and not doing testing at pro day : fuck him
Just did a mock where I didn't want to pick Carter at 6 or a CB in the first round. Ended up with the following... 6 - Peter Skoronski, OL 18 - Calijah Kancey, DT 48 - Drew Sanders, LB 55 - Luke Musgrave, TE 81 - DJ Turner, CB If you think Carter is draftable I think it's negligence to take Skoronski (or anyone else) ahead of him. If he's basically off your board, I don't know what they do.
What are your presumptive top 5 in that scenario? Also this team felt the need to write character down on a piece of paper while interviewing GMs and Coaches, and felt further need to write most important with an arrow pointing it at. Also felt the need to frame said piece of paper and put in the offices. Not saying they'll pass Carter, but this isn't the team that's going to take character risks
The top 5 was Young, Stroud, Anderson, Richardson and Wilson, I think. So I would assume the group the Lions are picking from at 6 would include Carter, Gonzalez, Skoronski, maybe Witherspoon and Bijan? Hard to tell.
Recognizing that this is a poor use of resources, of course, and it would probably mean Penei never moves to LT.
I think Skoronski is more likely to be in play at 6 than Kancey is to be in play at 18 because I have no clue if we would even consider Kancey given his size.
I know stupidity happens a ton and I’m sure the kid has stress right now…….. but how in the fuck could anyone will multiple millions on the line not work their ass off after realizing the whole NFL is watching what they do after the off field incident. following that shit up and not being able to finish drills just lost him likely millions of dollars on his initial contract.
Gives me shades of Nick Fairley Edit. Just saw Vin posted that in draft thread too. It's just starting to jump out at me
agreed 100%. Guy is prepping for his job interview and absolutely failed. Now imagine giving him millions of dollars and think he will stay committed to working his ass off every day. I can almost guarantee he is already off the Lions draft board and that’s fine. We don’t need this piece of shit in the locker room messing with our good morale. have fun playing for the raiders or cowboys
