Guessing because contractors always run over budget in this US and because we have absolutely jack shit experience as a nation in building high speed rail they really have no idea what they're getting into. Doubling the size of the nuclear plant Vogtle has run way over budget. I don't think it can be simply boiled down to regular corruption.
I was listening to the similar issue we have in the UK and that it’s partly due to an addition to “One. Big. Project.” In Germany they break these projects up into stages and fund and build them separately (Project 1: upgrade station 1, 2, and 3 for €x million, project 2: build rail between station 1 and 2, project 3: build rail between station 2 and 3, etc) vs in the UK it’s just “BUILD ALL OF HIGH SPEED RAIL TWO FUCKERS BLAAAAA £400trillion!”
Not to mention bidding to specifications that are vaguely written so you end up explicitly stating a lot of things that you won’t be doing but you’re certain will be needed because you don’t want your proposal to come in 80% higher than everyone else.
Is there money to be made in the US for a high speed rail? Would it be humanly possible to do it privately?
Not until they do what France did and make short-haul flights illegal. Maybe if the federal government pays Boeing to build the trains and pays Delta, United, and Southwest to run them.
We honestly really aren't going to ever get high speed rail realllly built out in this country without some nationalization of airlines or the government fully taking all rail over.
Gonna need to hire rep eye patchs commercial team to get 0 dark brando HALO jumping and landing with pinpoint accuracy to drag his nuts across meatball or trumps face.
I’m sure the underpaid, under appreciated teachers will be thrilled that classrooms will have this thing that costs more than 5 of them make a year are there instead of maybe paying them their worth.
Does it latch from the inside somehow once it’s fully out? What locks it in place? Can a murderer not just push that thing back to the wall at the same hinge and crush them?
I work in state government in Florida, and it's a little surprising there aren't more stories about the governor's eccentricities. He also churns through staffers like I've never seen.
He literally never faces a stiff wind of opposition, just gets it shut down. He cannot take an ounce of criticism, so in a national race with people that play dirty like Trump I just don’t see Ronny doing it
Trump is one of the greatest shittalkers we've seen (I think he's insane and shouldn't be running the country but he's an elite level shittalker) - I just don't see Desantis doing well with that at all on the campaign trail. Could easily be wrong.
The first time he’s asked a follow up question or actually pressed on a question and becomes a whiny baby it’s over. He’s faced literally zero opposition. I know the GOP machine will treat him with kid gloves, but at some point the man child will show up.
Good? I think good because I'm so free US Has Lowest Life Expectancy Of All G7 Nations; Drops Below World's Top 50 By Jason Hall March 16, 2023 The United States is now reported to have the lowest life expectancy of all G7 nations and dropped out of the world's top 50 rankings, according to data from the University of Oxford and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine obtained by Daily Mail. The U.S. average life expectancy was reported to be 77.41, which ranks 53rd globally, based on ratings between 1952 and 2021. Americans had previously ranked 13th globally in 1950 with a life expectancy of 68, but have had a much slower increase than other developed nations. The United Kingdom, which rose from 68.63 in 1950 to 80.43 in 2020, also saw a significant drop from 10th to 36th among the list of 200 nations. Hong Kong had the longest life expectancy of 85.2 years, followed by Macao (85.18), Japan (84.69), Australia (84.32) and the Republic of Korea (83.61). Last August, the life expectancy in the U.S. was reported to take a significant hit in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Separate provisional data published by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed that life expectancy at birth fell to 76.1 years in 2021, which was the lowest projected age among Americans since 1996, CNN reported at the time. The life expectancy at birth also dropped by more than two and a half years since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, marking the biggest two-year decline in a century, with the coronavirus serving as the driving factor.
That’s not even fair, the queen was dragging up that UK number. Now that she has exited the board, we’ll see what the engine thinks about the position.
Everyone at Boeing getting (redacted) in the (redacted) with a high powered (redacted) seems like a good thing.
It seems as though some people in the media are starting to shift away from Pudding Ron. When it’s all said and done I think Youngkin will be the guy who challenges Trump. Ronnie three fingers is terrible when pushed, but also he has turned Florida into a solid red state, the possibility of republicans winning VA will push Youngkin over Ron, but I doubt he can beat Trump or deliver VA, but the media will convince themselves that he can do both.
Trump is going to win the nomination and pick a woman as VP. Kristi Noem will get it over Nicki Haley. He may go Huckabee, but style matters much more to him and he’s going to pick the most attractive woman who has credentials. That’s the 2024 playbook.
He won’t pick Huckabee because he doesn’t want to be photographed next to her. He’s going to pick a more attractive female over her just for that reason even though Huckabee would fuck up the country the most for him.
I will not be shocked in the least if Trump does something completely misogynistic behind the scenes, like tell Huckabee she has to drop 40 pounds to get the nomination.
