I'd try to get him too. Seems like Florida has prioritized him more?

that area along the Fall Line is about the most pro-UGA territory you will find. Takeo Spikes is the only one that stands out.

    That's true

But also we take a million DB's every class. There will be more turnover prob in the next portal window. I think you make room for him with the expectations it helps with the '25 kid there

have to figure Kirby and Will leave a spot or two for the summer evaluation 6'1+ lanky south florida DBs they lust for every year. Borderline 3* types.

hard to not just blindly trust our defensive recruiting decisions.

Also, Demello Jones now our 2nd lowest rated commit. 211 points by start of Spring Practice.

    100% on defensive recruiting.

It's impossible to know who we are prioritizing now. Seems it's all starting right now since they can get eyes on players in camps, etc.

    Dasher:

    Good afternoon.
The media was allowed to view approximately 15 minutes of workouts Thursday, the first opportunity we've said to see the 2023 Bulldogs up close. As usual, UGASports was on hand with five sets of eyes, including two photographers.
For those wondering, this was the first media viewing since Week 2 against Samford.
    Here's what we saw.

    I'll go first.

... Quarterbacks: Carson Beck does indeed appear to be taking the early first-team reps, followed by Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton. Team is still in just shorts and shoulder pads. Coach Bobo spent his entire time with the QBs in the time I was watching. Will say that Beck really seems to be in command of what he's doing.
... Offensive Line: It was hard to gauge exactly who was going where, but initial reps saw Earnest Greene at left tackle, Xavier Truss at left guard, Sedrick Van Pran at center, Tate Ratledge at right guard and Amarius Mims at right tackle. Now, one rep, I'm pretty sure I saw Austin Blaske slide in with the first team, with Micah Morris getting second team reps at guard.
... Freshman running back Roderick Robinson is a BIG boy. Looks at least 230 to me.
... Freshman receivers Anthony Evans III, Zeed Haynes and Tyler Willams looked good on air, but like most freshmen are getting used to the speed of the practice. So too, are transfers Dominic Lovett and RaRa Thomas. Apparently, it's a different animal than their former schools.
... Tight end Lawson Luckie is a lot bigger than what I thought I would be. Very physical-looking better.
... Freshman outside linebacker Gabe Harris got a little peeved with fellow freshman Pearce Spurlin and had to be shoved back by outside linebackers coach Chidera Uzo Diribe. Smart was overhead getting on Spurlin, too, telling the freshman "the pads come on soon."
... Outside linebackers: Harris, Samuel M'Pembaand Damon Wilson are three imposing outside linebackers. All three look like defensive ends. They're still learning, however, as Uzu Diribe had to stop one drill because they were not moving fast enough.
... Inside linebackers: Keep an eye on Raylen Wilson. Young man looked to be a terror during the drills I saw.
... Defensive end Mykel Williams is listed at 260, which is like 10 pounds more than last season. He definitely looks it.
... Freshman cornerback AJ Harris stood out to me among the freshmen DBs.
... Freshman defensive tackle Jordan Hall (44) is already making an impression. Was even getting a few first-team reps.

    More to come

    JED MAY

For perhaps the first time ever, the highlight of practice viewing came during the ball security portion. Freshman tight end Pearce Spurlin (88) and outside linebacker Gabriel Harris (29) were matched up in the drill. At the conclusion, things got a little testy and a brief scuffle ensued. Todd Hartley yelled, “I like the juice!”

Kirby Smart also begged for intensity during ball security. He told several players, “Best friends finish last” during some reps he perceived as soft. Darris Smith had a good rep, punching the ball out from one of the tight ends.

During handoff drills, the quarterback order went Carson Beck, Brock Vandagriff, Gunner Stockton. The running back order went Kendall Milton, Branson Robinson, Andrew Paul, and Broderick Robinson (wearing 0). Daijun Edwardsworked inside during that portion of practice.

Paul is still wearing a knee brace on his right knee. Smart said on Tuesday he won’t be doing any 11 on 11 drills this spring.

In addition to Spurlin in 88, freshman tight end Lawson Luckie is sporting 7.

During some drills getting off the ball, the first-team offensive line featured Earnest Greene at left tackle, Xavier Truss at left guard, Sedrick Van Pran at center, Tate Ratledge at right guard, and Amarius Mims at right tackle. The second unit from left to right went Austin Blaske, Micah Morris, Jared Wilson, Dylan Fairchild, Chad Lindberg.

For those looking for receiver numbers, RaRa Thomas is wearing 5, Dominic Lovett is wearing 6, Tyler Williams is wearing 10, Yazeed Haynes is wearing 13, and Anthony Evans is wearing 17.

The receivers did routes on air in groups of threes - X, Slot, and Z. The order went:

    Rosemy-Jacksaint, McConkey, Arian Smith

    Bell, Lovett, C.J. Smith

    Meeks, Mews, Haynes

    Thomas, Evans, Speer

    PATRICK GARBIN

Before we observed practice, we spotted Nakobe Dean leaving the IPF. As Dean was leaving, Nolan Smith drove by in his truck and the former teammates chatted briefly.

Soon after we got to the field for observation, Kirby Smart was hollering at a particular player (unsure who), “Don’t be his best friend! Best friends finish last! Best friends finish last!” It was just about then when new additions Pearce Spurlin and Gabe Harris got into it—as described. From what I observed, it appeared Harris popped Spurlin in the helmet with his hand a few times before the latter got tired of it, and locked up with Harris by grabbing his facemask.

Chidera Uzo-Diribe was intense with his outside linebackers group. He was “tired” of having to repeat himself to the unit, adding, “You’re not tired! We just started! So, you’re not tired!” Like Dash, I was impressed with new additions Sam M’Pemba, who is wearing No. 26, and Damon Wilson, who is wearing No. 35, both of whom seemed far from tired. The aforementioned Harris was out there as well.

Smart reminded everyone that it was “the last day before pads.”

Along the defensive line, Jordan Hall was easy to spot, wearing No. 44 and getting first-team reps. For the couple of drills I saw, Hall seemed to be keeping up better than most new arrivals this early in the spring. Fellow newcomer Jamaal Jarrett is wearing No. 55.

I just caught a glimpse of the safeties working with Will Muschamp—just long enough to catch Malaki Starks not surprisingly make an impressive grab of an interception.

Besides the pair getting the first-team reps, Kamari Lassiter and Daylen Everette, the remaining corners seemed to struggle a bit while we observed—enough to where Fran Brown seemed a tad ticked off. Besides Lassiter and Everette, the rest of the group routinely dropped passes thrown their way.

As we were leaving the field a few minutes into a period, we were getting ushered off in a way by Smart. The head coach questioned one of the UGA Sports Comm. staffers, asking “We got to blow a horn to get [the media] out of here?”

Just before we got off the field, we witnessed a long touchdown reception made by Arian Smith, who blew by newcomer AJ Harris, who is wearing No. 4, for the score.

Working on a much bigger report but know you guys will appreciate some of the info we've gathered thus far...

    - Hearing a lot about the wide receivers thus far and that includes Dominic Lovett and Rara Thomas. Hearing more about Lovett and, as expected, Ladd McConkey is off to a great start.

    - Had a source tell me that Brock Bowers is 7-9 pounds heavier than last season and has hit his best GPS numbers since being at Georgia already this spring.

    - Sounds like this summer is going to be big for Monroe Freeling. I'm told that he actually dropped a few pounds between the time he enrolled at UGA and spring drills. Not sure if he has put those back on but he's going to need a BIG summer, no pun intended, to be able to contribute in year one.

More coming either later today or tomorrow...

Georgia is a third of the way through with spring drills. Five practices are in the books and the Bulldogs will get after it on Saturday plus Tuesday and Thursday next week before their first scrimmage on April 1.

DawgsHQ has spent the week checking with sources and gathering info. We unload it all for you below.

    • Still nothing surprising in the quarterback battle. Carson Beck has the leg up but I’m told that there’s some excitement about the progressions of Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton. Beck is the most consistent but Vandagriff and Stockton have shown some impressive flashes. One source told me that they have seen a much better of Vandagriff this spring as compared to a year ago.
    • I was a bit surprised late this week when the running back position was brought up a couple of times by trusted contacts. Kendall Milton was the primary name and I’m told that he’s in the best shape of his Georgia career right now. Another source told me that it’s pretty clear that he was among the program’s hardest workers during winter workouts. When it comes to explosiveness and quickness, Milton has made some strides. I’m also told that Roderick Robinson, while flashing at times, still has so much to learn. I’ve also heard some good chatter on Branson Robinson and his tackle-breaking ability.
    • Another week, another source telling me how Brock Bowers is clearly bigger, stronger, and, as hard as it is to believe, faster. I was told again by a different source how he is bigger than he has ever been at UGA while also hitting some of his best GPS speeds. I also continue to hear great things about Lawson Luckie but, like Roderick Robinson, he has a long way to go in terms of learning the offense.
    • This must be the week that UGA’s non-transfer wideouts decided to make a move. I’ve heard some chatter about Dominick Lovett, similar to the end of last week, but after two practices this week I’ve heard much more about Arian Smith, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, and Dillon Bell. One source told me that Bell has had two great practices this week and that Rosemy-Jacksaint is making some plays after the catch that we didn’t see for his first two or three years on campus. Another contact who observed practice this week was impressed with how Smith seems to have rounded out his skill set some. He did some things over the middle and in the short-passing game that he hasn’t put on display thus far.
    • The first-team offensive line on Tuesday was Austin Blaske, Xavier Truss, Sedrick Van Pran, Tate Ratledge, and Amarius Mims from left to right. Based on what I’ve been able to piece together, it sounds like Blaske has a clear edge at left tackle and is having a really good spring. He’s getting a ton of reps and still working some at center. Earnest Greene is progressing but he’s still trying to get back into shape. I continue to hear good things about Micah Morris as well.
    • It sounds like the past two practices have been good ones for Jordan Hall. A trusted source who understands line play told me Thursday night that Hall is naturally heavy-handed and is the type of guy who isn’t going to get blocked much when he plays with an edge. He’s still a bit up and down based on what I’ve gathered but it’s a lot more up and down for the true freshman. I’ve also heard some good buzz about Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins. Full disclosure, a couple of trusted sources who have viewed practice this week have told me that they were a little underwhelmed with Bear Alexander. I don’t think think there’s any cause for concern. He has shown Georgia fans that he’s a player. I’m just telling you what I’m hearing.
    • When talking about the young Georgia outside linebackers, the gap between Damon Wilson and everyone else grew this week. I’m told that the former five-star prospect had a good week of practice and is growing up quickly. I’ve also heard some good chatter about C.J. Madden the past couple of days.
    • I fear that by the time Raylen Wilson and CJ Allen actually get a chance to play it will be hard for them to live up to expectations. The buzz for these two started about 30 minutes after they arrived on campus and it hasn’t really stopped. It was there when they were just working out and then again during bowl practices and again in helmets-only workouts and now again in full pads. I’m gonna be shocked if at least one of them isn’t in the rotation this fall.

Also, just an opinion here, but I haven’t heard much about Xavian Sorey at all this spring. Seeing as how Sorey worked the third-down role that was eventually taken over by Jalon Walker, and Walker isn’t out there this spring, I thought I would hear more.
    • I keep hearing that Nyland Green can’t be counted out when it comes to the cornerback spot opposite of Kamari Lassiter. I’m among those who thought that Daylen Everette would be the guy. I’d still put my money on Everette but Green, with a cast on his left hand, is having a really good spring. I’m also hearing good things this week on Georgia freshman A.J. Harris. Not a lot of talk about Smoke Bouie just yet. I’m interested to see where he works when the team scrimmages in eight days.

Georgia is inching toward the midpoint of spring drills and hosted its annual coaches clinic at the end of week two. So lets get right to it. DawgsHQ shares what we’re hearing from last week’s practices below.

    • Most of the contacts I’ve spoken with over the past couple of days say Carson Beck is the guy at quarterback right now. Others, and even some of those who said that about Beck, think Gunner Stockton is going have something to say about it. That time may not come this spring but I’ve had several folks tell me how impressed they were with Stockton last week.

With that said, I also had a couple of folks who were able to see practice this time last year who say that Brock Vandagriff has come a long way. In piecing things together and coming to an educated guess, I don’t think Vandagriff gets mentioned as much because he doesn’t produce the “wow, how’d he do that” type of plays as often as the other two. Again, that’s the read I get on it from talking to multiple folks.
    • I’m told that Kendall Milton is a little banged up but nothing serious. I’ve heard groin and hamstring, but I’m not sure which one. Before I started hearing about that I started to pick up some buzz on Branson Robinson, who is running really well this spring. I had one source tell me that Robinson is getting the best of a lot of full-speed collisions out there right now.
    • In case you missed my post on The Dawg Walk this weekend, Lawson Luckie got some first team looks at tight end this week in different sets. I don’t think he has passed Oscar Delp and I don’t think he’s close to passing him up. I just think he is where Delp was this time last year. I’ve spoken with several folks who really like what they’ve seen from the freshman.
    • Earnest Greene is having a solid spring and he’s coming along nicely per everything I have been told. He was on the shelf with that back injury for awhile and he’s playing catchup. I fully anticipate him playing and being a part of Georgia’s plans in 2023.

With that said, Austin Blaske is having a really good spring. More than one contact has mentioned they were surprised by his length and quickness. He has some technique things to clean up but the No. 1 thing he brings to that offensive line is an edge. Blaske is a nasty, max-effort guy who has come a long way when it comes to playing under control. If Greene ends up battling back to win that job, two things will be true. 1. He will have EARNED it. 2. Blaske is still going to play quite a bit.
    • I’ve spoken with several coaches who were able to watch practice last week and Mykel Williams‘ name keeps coming up. When I asked those guys about the guy who stood out on defense, almost all of them mentioned Williams in the first sentence. I also mentioned last week about how I spoke with some sources who were underwhelmed a little with Bear Alexander. That wasn’t the case when I checked in with folks on Sunday. Apparently he had a good finish to the week.
    • I don’t have much on insider linebacker and EDGE today but I do want to share my read on the defensive backfield now that I’ve spoken with quite a few people about it.

The competition is THICK at the cornerback opposite of Kamari Lassiter. As we reported Saturday morning, Julian Humphrey has made a move. Daylen Everette and Nyland Green are also in the thick of things. Smoke Bouie did some good things this week according to the coaches (from the clinic) I spoke with this week. A.J. Harris has also turned some heads. This has quickly turned into one of the most intriguing battles I’ve covered at Georgia because more than one person believes that four or five guys will be in the mix.

Now on to safety where I really do believe that Javon Bullard getting reps means a little more than just creating some position flexibility. I spoke with a source about it on Sunday who pointed out how, under Kirby Smart, that strong safety position has always been a guy who makes plays on the ball. Georgia wants a turnover creator in that role. J.R. Reed, Richard, LeCounte, and Chris Smith all fit that bill. I’m not saying that Bullard is going to be the guy there but I do think he would bring that play-making element needed at the position. Combine him working at safety with the buzz about Tykee Smith coming on, that’s one to watch for sure. I do think that David Daniel-Sisavahn, Joenel Aguero, and Dan Jackson will eventually have a say in it.

This combined with (earmuffs eho) us taking a random OL in recruiting yesterday is concerning af.

I also think this is another case of not wanting to lose OT depth. So they are making this more of a competition than it is. Greene was the best OT last year aside from Jones and McClendon before he got hurt.
