Why even mention it then? What did Grandpa do when you were five or six? Don't tell me to fuck off when you have questions to answer because of something YOU said.

You were still supporting Hawthorn in your 30s boss. You have told us numerous times that you only turncoated to North Melbourne when Brad Scott started coaching them in 2010.

Another Kangas fan here. It cool to talk actual football or we still just calling people dickheads?

Because I’m on board w/ 6ish wins for North this year, despite JVP’s slander (though the news they’ll miss Ben McKay for a few weeks might fuck that up a bit). Their last couple drafts have brought some exciting talent into the squad - watch out for Paul Curtis IMO. Got a little juice to his game for sure. I just think they already look more organized and capable through their practice matches/match sim than last year (they lost to the Dees by 100+ in preseason 2022), and should be able to steal a few matches from sides slightly above their profile.

Who are you all picking as premiers for 2023? Personally think it’s hard to not pick Geelong, but their age has to catch up to them eventually, right? Other than that, it’ll be interesting to see if either Collingwood or Brisbane did enough in the offseason to elevate themselves to that level, and if Melbourne bringing in Grundy and others can get them back to the top.

Thanks for bringing the thread back on track. A lot will depend if Clarkson gets his marching orders if he is found guilty of coercing First Nation women into having abortions. The findings should be released soon and I doubt the AFL will be able to cover it up as they like to.

North have had so many early draft picks now that they should start improving at some stage.

Brisbane have the best squad in the league now IMO but I’m not sure they can win the Grand Final at the MCG.

I think Melbourne will be hard to beat. I can see Geelong starting to fall down the ladder.

I agree with about 1 of those 3 statements.

Yes, Melbourne will hopefully be back to their 2021 form - I don't know WTF happened to them last year. Premiership hangover?

Unless Geelong get complacent, I think they'll be top 4 again pretty comfortably - it wasn't a fluke they won the GF by 70 points last year. Personally I think it's them or Melbourne this year.

And I just can't get carried away by Brisbane. They've been pretenders too often and I'm not sure where the improvement is going to come from. They'll play finals but I'm not sure they'll even be top 4.

Obviously as a Melbourne man I agree about the Dees. I also agree about Geelong. But look out for St Kilda. Ross Lyon could be just what they need.

I think Brisbane have the best squad on paper now. Whether that translates on the field is another thing.

I’ve been saying Geelong will fall off a cliff for about 3 years now.

Well, the fact that none of the accusers is willing to give any sort of actual sworn testimony against him says a lot I think. Also, most of the accusations are second hand at best, a “My partner said Clarkson said…” sort of thing, which means everything claimed is wide open for misinterpretation. I’ve read a ton of the articles around the scandal, and it honestly seems like based on the accusers unwillingness to participate in any investigation that Clarkson and Fagan will have nothing to really worry about (though this is the perspective of an American who knows zero about how the Aussie criminal justice system works).

This is where I’m at with the Lions. Reviews say Dunkley and Ashcroft add exactly what they needed in the middle, but are guys like Gunston going to make that much difference up front? And did their back 6 get any better? They beat up on most clubs (my poor Kangas especially :tebow:) but looked pretty ordinary against the top teams last year.

My understanding was it was just one person who wasn’t willing to speak. The rest have all given sworn testimonies. As well as an assistant coach who was there at the time who corroborated a lot of the accusations.

I have no doubt that the afl will try and sweep it all under the rug but not sure if they will be possible.

I don't believe that's accurate. They told their version of the stories to Phil Egan (who wrote the original Hawthorn report) and then Russell Jackson (who followed up with the more scandalous quotes for the ABC), but then all of the accusers refused to cooperate with the AFL's inquiry and also have not followed up with any legal action against Fagan and Clarko. So, their "testimony" is out there, but not in any sort of legal sense.

Regardless, I guess I agree with your original premise: IF the Clarkson stuff turns out to be irrefutable, it will sink North for years. They've been on the ropes for a few years now, and being forced to drop the hugely successful and celebrated coach who returned "home" to lead them out of purgatory would be hard to come back from.

(But Boomer Harvey also said, "If someone dropped a bomb on Melbourne, there's two things that would survive it... cockroaches and North Melbourne footy club" so who knows - maybe they'd be OK in the end.)

Also, I think I must have missed it, but who's your club?

The whole thing has just been handled horribly, especially the fact Clarkson and Fagan's names were leaked to the press and they've been publicly (and anonymously) accused of such horrible actions with no legal right of reply. I find it incredibly hard to believe a bloke the calibre of Chris Fagan would do or say the things he's been accused of, but that's the world we live in. :ohdear:

I don't like Collingwood any more than you, but I completely disagree - that was one of the all-time great GF's where the momentum changed multiple times. West Coast literally won the match on a last minute Hail Mary play along the boundary and one of the greatest clutch kicks for goal I've seen. I actually felt a bit sorry for Collingwood after the match, which I couldn't understand.

A Hail Mary? That mark wouldn't have been taken if that Collingwood defender hadn't PANICKED and battled with that other Eagle instead of shaking him off. And typical black and white scum fans yelled for a free kick that wasn't there! Look - I doubt you hate Collingwood as much as I do. They took a record from us with foul tactics. We should have won six flags in a row from 1955 to 1960. Ask Mike Sheahan. He'll tell you all about it!

  40. paulski

    paulski Well-Known Member

By 'hail Mary', I'm talking about how they literally had one chance to get the ball from deep in defence and just go for broke, and it took 3 great kicks & 3 strong marks to get that shot for goal.

  41. Control

Which if Collingwood hadn't choked they would have prevented. Sorry but I'm just not buying it. They had it won and they lost. I think we should just agree to disagree here.
