Giving EEAAO the awards for supporting actor/actress roles over the other choices that are available would bother me more than it should.
I think Hsu and Yeoh should win their respective categories and I think the movie will win best picture
saw this on reddit and loved the detail that i didn't know (as i hadn't rewatched the first scene). major spoiler for those who haven't seen the movie. Spoiler "A favorite detail of mine from a musician's perspective - In the final scene with the Monster Hunter: World concert, she is given headphones. Those headphones would play her a metronome or a "click track," basically a computerized and predetermined tempo map that allows the orchestra to synchronize with the videos on the screen behind the orchestra. She tells everyone in the first interview scene that the thing that she views as her ultimate source of power as a conductor is her power to manipulate time through tempo. So on top of her perceived humiliation of conducting a concert like this, by giving her that click track, she is also completely stripped of her power as a conductor to put her own spin or take on the music - even the most basic power to stop and start the piece - and is instead totally beholden to the headphones and the metronome. It's an awesome way to end the movie."
I dont think other shows have ranked choice voting though that's the only thing that could upset it because all the old voters might have it ranked fairly low of the 10
It isn’t really an opinion based on gut or anything. When all the different sects of the academy have their award shows and it sweeps them all, that’s kinda all she wrote.
I guess I meant more than I'm surprised about all of what you said. This kind of comedy sci-fi doesn't usually get a lot of love from the Hollywood institutions
Also I feel like most people know this by now, but it’s the most fun out of all fun facts: Big League Chew was invented in Todd Field’s kitchen when he was the bat boy for the Portland Mavericks, a team owned by Bing Russell and that included Kurt Russell as a player
Creed 3 was pretty solid. Jonathan Majors is incredible and acts circles around Michael B Jordan. He turns the movie from a stale C to an A-
No? Damn, that's disappointing. Anything non-spoilery you can share - I was going to see it tomorrow.
I’m bummed out how much I didn’t like Scream VI. I’ve liked basically every other one in the franchise, at least to some degree. Thought it got better as it went along, but there was so much dialogue that felt forced. Oh well
Shit, that was the main problem I had with V - the main characters were just standing around spouting self-referential dialogue while their lives were being threatened. I really don't want to go through that again.
It was just sort of boring. The dinos didn't look great, there should've been more of them. There were some cool gadgets and a few good scenes but you're not missing much.
I feel a lot of things right now. Good movie, bit surprised by the pacing given the little bit I had heard. Kinda have to be comfortable with sitting in the story it’s telling.
Aftersun is an odd watch because it's not your typical 3 act structure for a movie. I do think it's a bit meandering, but once it heads toward wrapping up it is an incredibly great movie. It ends and it all clicks. It's one of a few movies from last year that I keep thinking about randomly since seeing it.
Knock at the Cabin was disappointing. Starting The Whale. Didn’t realize it was filmed/cropped on purpose.
knock was awful. Idk why I paid the money to rent. It is in his worst 5 bucket, and that is remarkable for how many awful movies he has made
Watched Tar last night. I honestly don’t know what to make of it beside Cate Blanchett should win best actress
Was just looking at my letterboxd and realized I caught 54 new releases this year which feels slightly concerning for my well being
Just watched Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, good film, very unique and a lot of fun. It was about 20-30 minutes too long with too much stupid shit in the extra time (like with guys sticking trophies up their ass for shock value). Would have been better if more concisely edited. Acting was good and awards were warranted, although, the daughter should have won over JLC. 7.5/10 from me. Top Gun Maverick was better at 8/10 ...
sourcing data from rotten tomatoes is moronic those %s aren't ratings, they are just the % of audience that enjoy the movie a 7.0 and a 9.5 are equal votes
Had nothing to do with the success of the movie, but rather the Oscar-worthiness of it, which is arguable when compared to some of the all-time greats ...
Would you rather watch a hero's journey or an anti-war film? 1917 is a gorgeous film. But its overall message of how pointless WW1 was gets lost. Western Front is a far superior film IMO.
