High School hockey but this seems like the best place to post. Shitty way to miss a state title (would have gone to OT). The game was sold out and I looked at StubHub today and lower level tickets were starting at $112
Women’s Frozen Four looks an awful lot like the WCHA Frozen Four last week. Adding Northeastern is the difference. 5 Northeastern 1 Ohio State 6 Wisconsin 2 Minnesota Minnesota may have to beat Wisconsin & Ohio State in succession with 2 weekends to hoist 2 trophies.
Right. Because it’s been a whole week since Minnesota beat Ohio State in a game where the winner hangs a banner. The Minnesota/Wisconsin side of the bracket each has 6 Championships while Ohio State has 1. 1!
B1G tournament championship is Michigan @ Minnesota for the second straight year. Once again, I’ll be there with my eldest son.
The potential field for the NCAA Tournament is quite a bit smaller after the weekend. 11 teams are in.-- Minnesota Quinnipiac Denver Michigan BU Harvard SCSU Penn State Ohio State Michigan Tech Western Michigan 1 Team will have conference auto bid...Atlantic Hockey Holy Cross or Canisius 2 teams are all but in. Would take an extraordinary set of circumstances to not get in. Cornell Minnesota State 2 Teams hanging on...have to hope their are no conference upsets. For Alaska it also means they need Merrimack to lose. Merrimack Alaska Teams still in contention. Teams with * would be stealing a spot from the teams at bottom of list above if they win their way in. B10 Michigan vs. Minnesota Hockey East Providence* vs. BU Mass-Lowell* vs. Merrimack ECAC Colgate* vs. Quinnipiac Cornell vs. Harvard NCHC Colorado College * vs. Denver UND* vs. SCSU CCHA Northern Michigan* vs. Minnesota State Potential for only the top 11 being in the Tournament.
Snuggerud, LaCombe & Close got robbed IYAM, IMO, FWIW. Meanwhile Close gave up less than 2.0 goals per game and had a negligible difference in save % (.003). Cooley/Snuggeud snubbed.
Big rivalry game tonight. Wisconsin vs Minnesota in women's Frozen Four. Both teams have 6 championships each. Wisconsin is 2-1-2 against the Gophers this year.
Definitely CC and Colgate Here is a full run down. https://www.uscho.com/2023/03/18/whos-in-who-needs-help-heres-what-we-know-about-ncaa-mens-hockey-tournament-selections-on-saturday/
SCSU Huskies the Frozen Faceoff Champs! Had CC's number all season Was hoping CC would have rolled out the 6-3 in that last period.
We were 6th row and that was right in front of our seats. It was the best goal I’ve ever seen live. If you see a grown man throwing an 8 year old 6 feet in the air that is me.
Congratulations. Did they say why the Michigan 3rd goal wasn’t offsides? I was assuming because the player bringing it in pushed it ahead and didn’t carry it in that allowed a touch up. We were on the opposite side of the rink but I said offsides as it happened and when we challenged I expected to win that.
I assumed because of delayed offsides. No one was offsides until the puck was touched and by then everyone was back onsides.
Congratulations. Do you think your goalie kicks the net off the post at opportune times every time he plays here?
We even allegedly fixed the pegs on that side of the rink within the last couple weeks. There is something abnormal about how deep they can be because of the cooling system (so it will be fixed when they renovation on Monday) but they were finally able to find new pegs that fit the specs and were supposed to solve the issue. He is able to kick it off nonetheless. Never happens when we are on that side.
It’s gross when fans that have been at the last couple Michigan games are already calling it before the game starts. Was aware of the new pegs, but he was a pro at knocking those loose, too. I guess I have to appreciate him leaning into the heel (of the skate knocking the net off when it’s a scoring chance) role.
For me personally, potential banners ranked. 1) National Championship 2) Conference Championship 3) Conference Tournament Championship What we miss is the chance for the tri-fecta but the most important one--to both programs--is still out there. Good luck.
I agree. The body of work of a whole season out weighs a one off, even if the stakes are high. It's a nice feather in the cap if you win it, but nothing crazy if you come up short unless you need it to make the NCAAs or something.
I'd switch Harvard and St. Cloud. PSU needs to be in Allentown and can't be paired with #9 OSU but swapping 8 seed for 6 seed instead of 7 is unfair to both Minnesota and St. Cloud.
The puck was deflected off Knies’ skate back into the zone. Even if Michigan hadn’t tagged up it wouldn’t have mattered. I felt like the Gophers were super weak on the puck, especially in their own zone. Michigan was relentless and bullied their way to a win. Gophs need to harden the fuck up if they don’t want to disappoint us, again.
Let all the b1g conference haters hate but Minnesota Michigan is the best series in college hockey right now
Man, MN got outshot by a large amount at home and Michigan carried the play for most of the game. 1) Why wasn’t the goal disallowed on the goal that we reviewed for 8 hours when it was clearly on-sides. 2) The shit goal that keeps coming off its bearings kept coming off its bearings when it is hit by a 6’6 220 pound Sweed versus when a 5’10 175 little bitch hits it. MN going to win the natty. Take the L.
No one is hating on the conference. It's the best its ever been, shut the fuck up. And wow, what a limb to go out on. Arguably the two best teams in the country is the best matchup in the country? Such a brave take. *obligatory Celemo
b1g conference is widely hated by everyone not in it, favorite thing in college hockey has been to make fun of it and talk about how shitty it is
Yeah, I thought the defense looked uncharacteristically soft clearing the zone. Michigan was aggressive on the forecheck which was part of it but we normally handle that with ease. LaCombe in particular looked slow (granted, it was his first game back in about a month). The offense wasn’t as sharp going stick to stick either. Michigan played with good structure when we were in the zone but I didn’t feel like we had as much zone time as usual. All of our goals were in transition and that still looked deadly.
