It always seemed like this but the Fox News emails and texts in the dominion suit make it abundantly clear that this is 100% accurate.
This is definitely an act by Tucker but it’s funny watching Shapiro not know how to react to another republican grifter disagreeing with him on his “capitalism over everything” mindset lol.
I work for a software company that services transportation. Even if we reach stage 5, class 8 autonomous commercial vehicles (the group of trucks & drivers Tucker references), companies will still need drivers to perform all of the jobs truckers do other than driving when they pick up or deliver freight. Autonomous vehicles won't displace truck drivers. Autonomous trucks would be a huge boon for the industry that has a driver shortage and regulations on how many hours a driver can drive each day. Average life expectancy of a truck driver is 62 years and there isn't a labor pool waiting to sign up to be a truck driver. Autonomous vehicles will actually save trucking and take the riskiest aspect of trucking (the driver skill/distraction) out of the equation as well as make the day to day of being a truck driver a more enjoyable job.
when he says “protecting your citizens” he specifically means the citizens of his idealized white, heteronormative, christofascist nation
What other things do drivers do besides driving? Local delivery (like a Pepsi truck that delivers to gas stations) vs long haul (warehouse to warehouse) would have a big discrepancy in the answer to my question. Long haul trucking is a perfect use case for automated drivers and I’m not convinced the job you’re describing would be all that much more enjoyable.
Outlawing driverless vehicles (if they could ever actually be safely constituted) because of jobs is a really bad idea.
I see autonomous trucks really being most prevalent in long haul where you're going from DC to DC basically entirely on highways. I think once you get to the DC any loads going into urban areas would be handled by a manned vehicle
Sorry but this is just the liberal equivalent of your Boomer parents "FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD:Look at this funny Biden pic LOL!"
Local delivery has it's own challenges but the segment Tucker called out is regional (+250 mile radius from headquarters) and over the road trucking (+750 mile radius from headquarters). There's probably more but than this but: Pre & post trip vehicle inspection Fueling Minor maintenance Flat tires Incremental weather scenarios/poor road conditions/construction zones Docking & loading/unloading Some of these could be automated but you would need every single truck to be autonomous in order for the solutions and infrastructure to work and be cost effective. Another poster below mentioned autonomous driving for highways and then the driver takes over. That's class four autonomy and the likely future state. To the enjoyable part... The new class 4 autonomous trucks are really nice. You're basically sitting in a modern office all day with wifi & fridge vs driving a truck which is stressful and much more difficult than most people realize. For $60k-80k a year with low qualifications to entry other than a CDL, it would be a pretty good job if you're 20 years old with a high school diploma. Most trucking companies are literally recruiting people released from prison right now to fill seats.
Yeah a day cab would bobtail in and pick up the trailer. So the over the road truckers could still drive and go home afterwards.
I think I'd rather have a meth'd out driver who has been awake for 350 hours straight behind the wheel of a huge loaded down 18 wheeler than Elon's driverless tech, but that's just me.
If you want to feel super awesome about life - Chris Hayes has an Italian journalist on his podcast - Why is this Happening. Shes discussing how bad things have gotten in Italy. We all saw the headlines when Meloni won. But I havent seen much since. Some truly horrific stuff that Im not sure why it hasnt made headlines here.
Several boats of refugees have called in under distress. Her new policy was to deny them help, a violation of maritime law. Kept it under wraps until bodies washed up on Sicily. She said she hopes refugees get the hint. The oldest living member of parliament is a holocaust survivor who was deported by Mussolini. She needs police protection now because of all the threats she receives.
you dont recall her campaign? She was more racist than Boris Johnson or UKIP, and they set the bar high. only thing moderate she has done is favor Ukraine over Russia.
View attachment 186131 [/QUOTE] Also need drivers for refueling/recharging, until that’s automated. Then there’s circumstances like sudden weather events (tornadoes, blizzards, etc.) where it would probably be better to have a human operator take control.
It’s Italy they like fascism. None of this should be a surprise. She’s probably got a big approval rating too
I’m sure the hospitality industry (airlines, hotel chains, tour services) have had something to do with that. Tourism is vital to the Italian economy, especially once you get south of Rome.
About a week after the NYT ran this article talking about how effective Meloni has been and how she's shifted from her campaign rhetoric, a refugee boat capsized and 64 people died directly because of her policy to not allow Italian NGOs to launch boats to rescue refugees. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/14/world/europe/giorgia-meloni-italy.html https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/26/europe/migrant-shipwreck-deaths-italy-calabria-intl/index.html
“Hey let’s make sure your kids’ school is ok” being something that divides people is the most bizarre thing to me in all of politics
Their solution to shootings were bullet proof backpacks and walls to trap the students until cops show up. Seems like the most America thing ever.
You be surprised how much the "I don't have kids in school so I don't care about the schools" prevails around this country. Whether it's boomers whose kids are grown, homeschoolers, or just people without kids. The sentiment is quite prevalent.
