Risdon got us Will Anderson and Witherspoon in the 1st, Hendon Hooker and Adebawore in the 2nd, so I'm a fan of him. https://draftwire.usatoday.com/lists/2023-mock-draft-3-rounds-post-free-agency-updated-projections/
Pouncy had the Lions take Wilson and Banks and then he traded back into the first to take Darnell Washington. If we take a TE in the first, Washington is the guy I want because he can impact the game so many ways. I could actually see a draft like this because all these guys are great athletes and we know Holmes is all about athletes.
Does anyone have a Det News sub? I am guessing it’s Constant but he’d have to scan each page of the paper to get it to us.
What would the reaction of we took Quentin Johnston at 18? I wonder if that's a possibility with Chark likely gone. They seem like similar players.
DL 1 and Johnston 18 is kind of what I hope they do. Carter and Johnston would fit in well with rest of our offseason, but that's a big risk going red flag player and WR. Also think Johnston goes before 18. We really need a DT this draft. Our run defense was abysmal last year, and that's something we haven't really addressed this offseason. Tyree Wilson, Johnston, Mazi Smith with our top 3 picks may also be something I'd be down with, maybe even throw in a LB with 2nd Rd 2 pick. Take a TE mid rds and team should be solid
I'm also not ruling out a chark return unless I've missed something. If market isn't there he may just choose to come back on another 1 year deal and we have cap space to do it. Thinking longer it drags on the more likely his return is tbh, once he sees teams aren't giving huge contracts to wr
Reeves-Maybin is the ST/depth LB replacement for Board. Hopefully JRM doesn’t have to play as much as Board did.
Assuming OTC is in the ballpark with its current projections, we now have roughly 17 mil in cap space available after accounting for our rookie pool. I’m curious if we are making a run at someone, like say, Jeffrey Simmons who is rumored to be available. He’s going to require a mega deal, but he’s arguably a top 3 DT in the NFL and he’s only 25. Would be a home run for us.
It's crazy to see multiple guys keep taking less money to stay here. This has never happened in our lifetime
I saw something the other day that Buffalo might trade Ed Oliver, who isn't nearly as good as Simmons but would also come at a much cheaper trade price, I would think.
Yep, that would be a worthwhile gamble as well. It’s entirely possible we are just doing housekeeping and building up a rainy day fund, but another move does seem likely. It might just be bringing back Chark, but going after a DT if we aren’t enamored with Carter makes a ton of sense.
I think Owkwara, Harris and Vaitai all got guaranteed money to take significantly less salary. And some of that is obviously because they want to be here, but it's also because they weren't going to have a market if they were cut. Especially someone like Vaitai who missed all last season with injury. Getting extra money in the form of a bonus over getting cut is kind of a no-brainer for him.
It’s at least somewhat notable that we haven’t restructured Goff. Any restructure we do of his deal would lock him in as our QB in 2024. It doesn’t mean Goff won’t be the QB next year, but a restructure would have been an obvious declaration of the teams intention. If nothing else it makes the idea of drafting a QB high this season still possible.
The restructure we already did of his deal kinda supposes that he's the starter in '24. But right now we can go either way and I'm not sure why we'd give up that ability.
I need to block Sharp. Every offensive chart he sends out, the Lions are right next to KC. I need to manage my expectations.
Holmes flat out said he needed to add to the QB Room and at this point he hasn’t done that at all. Sudfeld is a guy you can sign any time (look when we first got him) but signing him now gives you a second QB in the room that knows the system and can be the mentor to a young QB. Easier for Sudfeld to do that, and also help Goff break down film, than rely on Goff to also be the mentor for the rookie QB imo.
I think we're on the same page on this. Based on Holmes' pretty direct comments previously, resigning Sudfeld for any amount of money makes me even more confident we're taking a QB next month. If not at 6, someone like Hooker, DTR, etc. in the middle rounds.
I don't think it was much of a question they'd draft a qb, still think it's hooker or O'Connell though later in draft. Guess we'll find out in a month
If Homes is committed to getting a QB, he’s going to need to trade up to #3 before Draft Day. I also don’t believe Hooker makes it out of the second round. If you’re not getting Hooker, you’re likely just spinning your wheels wasting a pick on any of these other guys but it’s also not a huge investment to take a guy and see what happens.
If it wasn’t for baker mayfield playing the best ball of his career in meaningless games, a QB top 3 would be guaranteed
I wouldn’t go that extreme with it. Maybe if the Cards threw in their second and then we added a future 3. That might be too much in our favor though.
If it's Young or Stroud, I would do that with no hesitation. I could be talked into it for Anderson or Richardson, although I think it's a bit rich for both.
damn you Terry. if Young or Stroud are still there at 3, i think the price goes crazy high to jump the Colts. 6 and 18 would be necessary
I think a lot of this depends on how far Arizona feels comfortable dropping. If we trade up before the draft, it’ll likely come at a premium though.
