Birkett and one of the other slap dick beat writers have us taking that OL from Northwestern and moving him to guard at #6
I've considered that, figuring that Penei or him could move to LT when Decker's contract is over, but his forte is pass blocking from what I've seen, so I'm not sure he'd be great at guard or RT and at some point Penei needs to play LT or he'll leave. So it's a fine idea in theory, but maybe not for this team.
I'm all for the BPA aspect of Skoronski. Needs change from year to year unexpectedly, so drafting to fill holes is short-sighted and leads to a lack of impact players long term imo. I definitely don't want us to pass on OL from pick 18 and beyond because we're pretty good there right now. Keep loading up with talent everywhere and figure it out later. HOWEVAH, Skoronski at six would cause me to have a classic draft night melty. You don't take a guard that high unless it's Quenton Nelson.
Not a lot this draft would make me lose my shit, the PFF mock has found one of those things 3. DETROIT LIONS (VIA ARI): QB ANTHONY RICHARDSON, FLORIDA Trade: Detroit sends Nos. 6, 48, 81, 2024 1st, 2024 4th; Arizona sends No. 3
I’m not sure what world theyre living in where it’d take that much to move 6 to 3. There’d have to be a bidding war for the ages. Still think you do it if they believe Richardson is the future.
Think that was a false report. Original article that rumor came from has since been deleted by profootballtalk
Ya I don’t think the team feels the same way that this thread does about Goff. Makes me really question if we take a qb in the first few rounds.
I think Hooker at our 2nd rd 2 pick starts QB watch if he's still there. I think they'll look for a solid back up with maybe some potential at starter in a year or two in case Goff falls off somewhere rd 2-5 this draft
If that's the case, we'll all look back in five years and realize the little run we went on at the end of the season fucked up the rebuild.
Or if we do it we will realize in 5 years wouldn't it be nice to have a stud defensive player instead of not picking up the 5th year option on a QB who is throwing 55% completions and a downgrade from what Goff gave us. Because you can play that game both ways and it's a greater percentage chance I think my statement is true
Every prospect in the draft is a risk. The only known variable here is Goff. We know he's a fine player who will let you down in the playoffs. I don't know what you're so scared of. edit: If the QB we take sucks after a couple years, dump him. Find a new one until we get one that matters.
The thing about this statement is that Goff has led a team to the Super Bowl, somewhere the Lions franchise has never been
I'm not buying a lot of what Risdon is trying to sell here, but I've been of the belief that the part about Okudah being dealt before the draft is on the right track. At best he's probably worth a 5th rounder or something, but the moves we've made suggest pretty clearly that we're prepared to move on there.
I would, too, but I think right now they view him as their 4th-best outside CB behind Sutton, Moseley and Jacobs. And they have Gardner-Johnson and Harris (who they like) to play in the slot. And if they draft someone in the first two rounds, that guy might be ahead of Okudah, too. Just connecting the dots, seems like there's no chance they're picking up that fifth year option, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if they trade him.
The Lions stuff here seems to coincide with the #3 pick being traded. Okudah starting for them may be a stretch, but the compensation — #6, day two pick, and “starter” feels about right. Maybe throw in one of our thirds next year. I agree with a lot of the bold predictions. I could see Bijan going to the Falcons at 8. Only thing I disagree with is the Michigan kicker falling to the last two rounds.
“We were looking at some quarterbacks that had a little more game experience, but obviously it just didn’t work out,” Holmes said. “But it’s not like we had a pool of experienced quarterbacks that we were just looking through. Really, it was down to three guys, including Nate. So it just only looking at two (other) guys that we were kind of just looking at and it didn’t work out.” Obviously, Holmes didn’t reveal the identities of the two other free agent quarterbacks, but it’s interesting to hear that Detroit’s field was so narrow. At the start of free agency, there were certainly more than just three backup quarterbacks on the market who have serious NFL experience, including Sam Darnold, Jacoby Brissett, Andy Dalton, Gardner Minshew, and Case Keenum, to name a few. Holmes’ comments seem to suggest that the Lions are likely done adding quarterback competition through free agency, but drafting one is now more likely than ever. Holmes even commented that they have talked with Goff about adding talent to the quarterback room through the draft. “I communicated with Jared at the end of the season about—just like I told you guys at the Combine—yeah, we’ve got Jared, but we didn’t have anything else behind him,” Holmes said. “So (we) just let him know that, ‘Look, man, we’ve got to get more behind you.’ I think we are in a unique position with all the picks that we have to add maybe a pretty talented guy if we go that direction. But, again, it doesn’t have to be the first round, doesn’t have to be the second round. It can be at any point. I just feel like we’re in a good place right now.”
SF said yesterday that Purdy is "leader in the clubhouse" or whatever that means for the QB job. They have no picks in the first two rounds, but three picks at the end of the 3rd because they've had three minority coaches/execs hired the last two years. My new dream is trading 18 for Lance + one or two of those third rounders.
That would be a nice use of 18, though it still seems like there is a risk of Shanahan would be willing to just give up on him already.
Jordan Reid did a seven round mock that I don’t hate 6. DE Tyree Wilson 18. DB Deonte Banks 48. DR Keenau Benton 55. QB Hendon Hooker 81. OG Braeden Daniels 152. LB Dorian Williams 183. TE Davis Allen 194. WR Jadon Haselwood
