definitely want Bediako and Pringle back. Tho I’m worried Pringle could go somewhere and start and that’s appealing to him. Want Griffen back obviously. Sears would be a great pick up again. He played well most of the year and I think another year at this level would help him. The rest who knows?
he’s one that I’ve heard rumors of transferring. I hope not because I think he has potential but what he brings could probably be brought in too.
A lot of guys are going to be offered NIL money to go to other programs. I’m sure one or two will leave that Oats would love to have back.
I don’t see Sears leaving unless he goes to the g league or overseas. I don’t see a transfer. I expect him back tbh. Pringle is who I’m more concerned would see playing time elsewhere and leave. Rylan would be getting minutes but unless he takes a step forward in shooting consistently, playing better defense and taking care of the ball I’m not sure he would be getting starter type minutes here. Not sure who else would leave that would be a major loss, Nimari with a healthy year maybe?
The Georgia fans talking shit in here was just bizarre. Winning as much as we have has created tremendous amounts of butthurt.
PFF has some odd rankings, but the average person can’t even see the safeties on TV on most plays. Not to mention they have no idea what their assignment is. I think people remember a few bad plays and take for granted that they were in position on most of the other ones.
We’ve also got a pretty rich recent history of playmaking safeties so when we don’t see guys getting highlighted for crazy plays we just assume they’re pedestrian
Kinda stinks to be honest. He has a lot of potential and just never seemed to be fully healthy. This will be his 3rd stop now though. Definitely interesting
It was pretty shocking how bad Burnett was around the basket. He got his shit packed more than any player I can remember. If he wasn’t knocking down threes he was useless
Hes a 3 and D wing that in theory should have thrived in our system. He showed flashes (Houston) but his shotmaking was ultimately far too inconsistent, despite the coaches always saying he was one of our best shooters in practice. Im sure the wrist injury didnt help Weird deal
Yeah, I thought he might be asked to stay to provide a veteran presence, but told his playing time likely wasn’t going to increase much. Can’t blame him for passing that opportunity up if it indeed is what happened.
Pretty ok with that. Burnett was a big letdown. We need scoring and we should be able to upgrade from him in the portal, especially in that department.
As Potter reported Nimari Burnett is in the portal. Not a surprise at all to the staff. We first heard wind of this yesterday so Potter has just been waiting on the official announcement. Nothing major caused this. It was a mutual parting. -It's possible there could be more transfers but nothing is certain in that regard. What is certain is Oats is meeting with players and they are discussing the future as it pertains to Alabama. With hoops a lot of decisions are relative to others. One player's decision often affects another's. So, this situation is fluid (which isn't surprising). -Jahvon Quinerly is a guy whose decision could very well affect others. He's contemplating returning. But no decision has been made. The UA staff would like him back. But he's got to figure out what options he has professionally in order to make his decision. -Oats and staff have plenty of good portal options. As expected, UA is a hot spot for transfers, and they have received more interest from top guys than they will have spots for them. Filling the roster won't be a problem. But Bama is looking for experienced guys to help them next year. Again, there are plenty of options out there for them to choose. -I do expect UA to be successful in getting the top guy/guys they want in the portal. It probably won't be the popular names some of you like, but they have a system in place and they follow that blueprint when they evaluate playeres from BOL
Off-season question: do y'all think there should be an age limit in college sports? Is it unfair for a 18 year old to be playing against a 25 year old? I kinda think yes. Playing against someone 40% older than you is kinda weird and the stage of development in the mid 20s and teens is night and day. I know there are vast age differences in pro sports but I view that as an entirely different deal. I don't have a super strong opinion on this but interested in others' thoughts.
Jaykwon Walton is the guy we've been waiting on to announce. Major target for the UA staff who targeted him as a great fit for their system. He was a highly-coveted guy so a big win. Props to Antoine Pettway for doing a lot of the leg work here and obviously Oats who is involved with every recruitment. First thing that stands out is his size. 6'6ish wing type who shot 40% from 3. Both things Oats and company love. Long and rangy as well. But also very experienced. Originally signed with UGA, then went JUCO, committed to Miss. State but got out of it after a coaching change and ended up at Wichita State. Potter has a story coming but Bama staff is pretty excited about this guy and he's expected to be a contributor right away. He played at Carver (Montgomery) High School. I've linked his YouTube highlights below. Some pretty good stuff. So check them out. ESPN Profile: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4431713/jaykwon-walton YouTube highlights:
