Marcus Freeman’s freshman year, we hit a 55 yard FG as time expired to beat Marshall. I thought he was channeling his inner Tressel last year.
i watched Mike nugent hit a 52 yarder as a HS senior. QB/K was the most centerville thing I ever saw.
Now that we’re both out of Spring practices, I figured I would check in. On defense, Spring practice checked most boxes. The DL and LBs will be very good. The secondary seems to have improved. CB Denzel Burke looks good again after being inconsistent early last year. CB Igbinosun looks to be the real deal as a transfer from Ole Miss. On offense, it will be McCord, but he didn’t look great in the Spring game. He’s good, but obviously a step back until he gets better. The OL looked bad against our DL. We’re now hoping to plug and play a transfer from SD State at RT, who just signed last week. We’re a tremendously talented team with a potential Achilles Heel at the offensive tackle spots.
Sam Hartman is so good he beat out our incumbent who transferred to Alabama and is going to start for them now That’s my summary of the ND spring
Quick and dirty DL: ? into the spring ? out however reviews are better than anticipated, seems like there may be some addition by subtraction with older guys who loved Elston moving on. LB: Lots of them, whoever plays should be good to very good CB: When healthy the top 2 may be a top 5 type duo, behind that there is talent but it's unproven, nickel is a transfer from the other OSU that we know little about (good when healthy it seems but rarely healthy). S: good top line, razor thin, hoping for portal help still, one injury here is a real problem. OL: they are good. Tackles should be unreal, C is very solid, Gs will be new but talented. QB: sex (unless Hartman gets injured, in that case....yikes) RB: Estime is a menace, banking on other super talented kids to step up, potential to be a special group. TE: Probably not to ND's recent standard but passable WR: Our #1 WR last year is now a CB for you guys and the transfer we brought in from VT medically retired because he wasn't going to play, this room has flipped in a good way quickly (admittedly banking on potential here some). P/K: I expect our D to be similar to last year. Our O will be the best we have seen since Weis was here (if healthy). Should be a fun team that with some good luck is in the playoff convo.
We have a ton of top end talent everywhere except the offensive tackles, and then questions about the transition to a new QB. This is arguably the best set of WR/RB/TE that we have had in recent memory, but no one knows how that translates on the field until we see McCord and the OL perform better than they did in Spring. This defense could be very good.
We know how it will translate. About a 10 point win over ND and sweating out the selection committee after being bloodied by Michigan's merry band of ogres and Neanderthals in a late-November snowstorm.
My jerkface cousin chose this game day to get married. So, gonna have to cut him out of my life*. *after his bachelor party at the Kentucky Derby this weekend
real talk, i'm still trying to commit myself to the whole "college football sucks now and I just don't care anymore" bit. Not sure if that's going to work out for me, but the truth will reveal itself on 9/23.
I’ve posted this story on our board before, but I was a groomsman in a wedding the day OSU played Purdue in 2000. We were 6-1 and a win gave us sole control on the conference. All the groomsmen were OSU grads. The bride went ballastic because we waited enter the reception in the limo with the groom for an extra ten minutes until OSU took a 27-24 lead with a minute left to play. We went into the reception and I found out later that Drew Brees hit a 65 yard TD on the next series and we lost 31-27.
Upon learning that my cousin picked the ohio state game to get married, I proceeded to bitch about it to my dad. It was at this point that I learned that my parents (both ND grads) got married during the Michigan game. This was before Michigan invented the night game too, so the ceremony was actually during the game. My grandpa, who is exactly what you think of when you think of an 85 year old ND fan, apparently paid an usher to stay in the back with a radio and pass along score updates. Anyways I had to cut my parents out of my life too.
Throw in some sideline shots of Sam Hartman with his helmet off and that might be the prettiest game of all time.
but its not true.... https://www.si.com/fannation/colleg...college-football-programs-most-picks-all-time
