as best as I can tell this talking point is coming from an article that was on Fox News and daily mail where an “industry source” said bud light “could be in danger” of losing the number one spot bud light had twice the market share of its closest competitor coors light in 2022. your 25% drop in sales puts it in no danger of losing its top spot. it would still have a massive lead and that’s if you keep up a 25% hit for a year

No I don’t. All I’ve tried to convey is that this is a big fucking deal for A-B and maybe someone should have stopped before allowing a potentially controversial ad campaign be ran. No matter how much the ad was fine in principal, it still was against the best interest of the brand given who they sell beer to and how easily replaceable their product is. It was a specific chain of events that caused this. Ford, Target and North Face and the others aren’t going to see the same level of backlash because they didn’t royally fuck it up from all sides. Despite my personal thoughts on specifically Dylan Mulvaney, there is nothing wrong with a trans spokesperson. It’s the manner in which this has played out with the ad exec videos and the back tracking after the fact that has caused this. It’s about a failure in how the entire ordeal has been handled.

Bigots are the problem. But they also buy a lot of cheap beer that helps pay the salaries of thousands of people. If you’re in a tenuous position already with declining sales and fast growing competitors, you can’t piss off a substantial part of your consumer base and expect there to be no consequences…even if you are morally right.
It happened. Regardless of how it happened, Bud Light is basically giving away their beer all over the country because their sales have declined so much in such a short period of time. We’re talking billions of dollars here. The level of connection doesn’t matter. It happened and they are paying a very steep price for it.

Bud Light fucked up regardless of the can of beer and stupid ad. Bigots are the reason the ad became such a big deal. I agree. How did Bud Light help themselves by basically firing the ad exec and issuing a half assed statement walking back the connection but still not admitting any fault. They took a bad situation and made it much worse.
