I think you’ll get your wish Spoiler with him and Spider-Man Noir because of the Samberg/Cage connection
Holy balls What a film. Visually, that's the most beautiful animated film I've seen since Kubo and the Two Strings. What they did with the backgrounds was stunning at times.
Saw a Dolby screening and it was nowhere near the sound of other movies I’ve seen in a Dolby. Other than that, the movie ruled. Animators better win every award involved in their industry.
Spoiler Peter Parkedcar! LEGO Spider-Man being one of the best! Spider-Baby! ten thousand easter eggs but no 90s Fox Kids Spider-Man?! Thats either a rights issue or they're saving him for part 2 this movie did more to show the stakes of a multiverse incursion than anything Marvel's current slate of movies has done.
Prediction for sequel Spoiler They defeat Spot in the first half, saving Miles' dad, causing Miguel to snap and decide to kill him himself, leading to a big showdown in the final act. I also wonder if Gwen's dad resigning, and thus no longer being in danger was a hint at how the issue with Miles' sad may be resolved.
Spoiler That is the Prowler from the MCU as he already had a small part as Uncle Aaron in I think Homecoming
Spoiler Was hoping Disney+ Spidey and his amazing friends would show up, but then I realized Miles in this universe doesn't make sense if our miles is the only anomaly.
Disney movies are animated in house and costs a ton. Everyone else outsources. Still, the quality of the art style is what sets this film apart. Disney/Pixar hasn't had a genuinely beautiful animated movie in a while.
Spoiler So many little things popping in my head. I loved when the new comics were added they went on top of the exact pile from #1. So many good call backs, like when the first fight warps into the cafe after the car wash it becomes the literal “Foam Party” cafe from the first. Loved the chai-tea naan-bread annoyance, especially after Miles scolded Spot for saying ATM-machine. Spider punk saying he hates the AM (morning) and hates the PM (prime minister). Just so good. Or when Rio snaps at Miles and rants about disappointing his family by getting a B in Spanish it’s a Puerto Rican flag she snaps. Or after 2099 tells him he never was supposed to be SM and when Miles goes to jump he pulls a little shard of the train with him because he’s doubting again. Beautiful details. Some questions. He was Jeff Davis in the first movie right? I as well have parents who don’t think about history and unfortunately named me the same (my moms maiden name is Davis so it’s my middle name). Do you think Feige was consulted at all? They fit the MCU into this story so seamlessly. Things like all the multiverse portals being hexagons makes me wonder if we get something insane like Miles/Gwen showing up in Secret Wars (clearly some issues with Hailee doing that). Why Earth-199999 and not Earth-616 if connected? Did Miles really not notice his mom’s eyes switched from Brown to Green? Come on kid. Im in complete awe of the animators, writers, directors, everyone involved. The first is still my favorite but I’ve seen it well over 100 times. I’ll revisit that question once the views for this one hit triple digits.
Spoiler Sorry, too many things keep popping up in my head. J Jonah Jamison is now canonized as a nexus being right? No matter the universe it’s always JK or his voice. Every time. Can’t say that about other characters.
I think Elemental is gonna be beautiful but its ultimately up to style and whether you like the Pixar/Illimunation animation style vs the Spiderverse and the new TMNT comic book style of animation
I’ve read/heard critique about the ending but that was EXACTLY how the comic book version of this story would of ended. I loved it.
Interesting theory I just heard Spoiler Miles’ existence disproves 2099’s theory of canon events. If he was never meant to be a SM then wouldn’t the canon events in his and 42s universes be completely fucked and both universes would of imploded by now?
I already knew about the 3rd movie, so I wasn't surprised by the ending. I got a good laugh because there was a bigger wtf reaction to that ending in my theater than Infinity War's ending.
Oh, I didn’t catch this but my kid said it was there. I don’t believe him. Spoiler He said during the shot with the lost loved ones when the big picture was Garfield crying one of the smaller pictures was of Holland crying over Mr Stark in Endgame. I think he made it up.
Spoiler Earth 1610 Miles was never destined to become Spider-man because Earth 42’s Miles was supposed to be Spider-Man
Spoiler Yeah, that’s what I’m saying, since the spider never bit Miles 42 shouldn’t that universe be a giant worm hole now according to 2099?
Oh god!!! That reminds me, I lost my shit laughing at one point. The 9 year old turned to me with the :ObamaNotBad: look on his face and dead ass said in the middle of the movie “Gwen got a little more thiccness in this one, well, just her butt mostly.” The tears were pouring down my face.
Took the 9, 6 year old and the wife this morning as we watched the first one last night. Loved everything about it. Spoiler My 6 year old was pissed at the ending. Let out a very loud "you gotta be freaking kidding me" that got some laughs from the surrounding people.
I, like an idiot, had either completely forgotten or just did such a good job of avoiding spoilers for this one that I had no idea about the cliffhanger. I turned to my wife when it ended with the biggest “wait what??” Look on my face movie was incredible. Can’t wait for part 3
Some people were big mad in my theater when is ended. This movie was fucking awesome. Loved everything about it. Every. Fucking.Thing.
How much are all of you sissy’s going to cry when Gwen finally kisses Miles? Spoiler My plan is to avoid all liquids for at least a week before watching
Saw it again this afternoon. I liked almost all of it better than the first time. It's just a great movie. My only thing I wish was different... Spoiler I don't like that Gwen was on team "let all police captains die for proper canon alignment". I don't really see how that makes sense with her character for a bunch of reasons.
Oh shit, interesting theory about the ending I heard on a nerd cast. Don’t look if you avoid theories cause this might have legs. Spoiler In they comics the prowler is always kind of an anti-hero type….maybe in the next movie they hit us with a twist that Miles 42 teams up with our Miles instead of becoming a villain. Could reveal that when Jeff died, Aaron turns good and then hands off the prowler to Miles 42. One big thing if that’s true, Shameik’s look is too old to play a live action Miles but Jharrell Jerome has much more of a baby face and is always on the fan casting lists of a live action Miles.
I'll bet, due to the writer's strike, the sequel ends up delayed until later in the summer or even Christmas of next year.
Unfortunately that’s a strong possibility. I still don’t think I’ve seen a reason they delayed the second one from Dec to Mar. I saw a theory that Aquaman and Rogue Squadron (didn’t that get delayed) were coming out the weekends before and after so they moved it. I did see one of the directors said the second part is 99% done, they’re still making some final edits and tweaks though.
As enjoyable as the first. Surprised the right isn’t up in arms over the “protect trans kids” poster in Gwen’s room, or Miles’s BLM button on his bag.
It was very good. Didn’t watch any trailers or read anything so I didn’t know it was part 1. But other than that, it was great.
