finally, punishment for lying about his age so he could dominate cadet and junior level tournaments /s
I get what Tom is saying and NIL does need to continue to be fine tuned but he's an Ohio St. coach. It's his own fault if he doesn't get "unlimited" funds because it's not like his school doesn't have the supporters with the resources to do the same that PSU does in his sport when it comes to NIL. Be a better salesman, hang out with richer friends, be a better coach in the NIL era, etc., cause you aren't gonna get sympathy from anyone re: NIL when you've got a Buckeye logo on your chest.
I don't understand how he's keeping his job by either intentionally neglecting NIL or just being awful at it and not putting someone in charge of it.
Yep, his message is understandable if he were the coach at somewhere like Maryland or Michigan St. or literally any non-P5 school.
he probably makes like $400k too when wrestling barely crosses a mil in revenue Penn State money destroys ours but shut the fuck up Tom
Oh yeah, NCAA head coaches pay for Olympic sports is all sorts of nonsensical. It was a recent-ish topic in the volleyball thread but....our volleyball coach is one of the best and most respected coaches in his entire sport regardless of level in the entire world. He has miraculously grown his program into the only women's program in all of college sports that turns a profit every year. He has 11 Final Fours and 4 natty's and has coached at UNL for 24 yrs. Our WBB coach just had a single good year by making the NCAA tourney and winning 1 tourney game. Her program ran over $3 mil in the red last year. She just got a raise that means she makes $200K/year more than the aforementioned vball coach. It's amazing how backwards the pay can be at some schools.
I really don't know what to think about all of it. Ohio State department just so filthy rich they can fund so much stuff. Let's see what happens when football players get their deserved piece of the pie. Think it's gonna be on boosters to fund the red sports in the future
Frank got absolutely hosed by some home cooking against Turan Bayramov, clearly scored with time left and the judges reversed it. In Baku, of course, sending Bayramov to the Olympics
Yeah, super weird that the tournament hosted in Baku saw all Azeri wrestlers qualify. Definitely nothing to look at there, even ignoring the insane hose job Chamizo got
Dabo Ryan wasn’t a joke, it’s who he is and a large portion will defend him no matter what. The guy sucks
Too far away to cut to 57 but don't feel big enough to compete at 65 doesn't really compute unless he has an injury. Isn't like 65 is that great either
Brackets out. Yet another reason you can't listen to a single word Carter Starocci says and take it seriously. He's not even wrestling at 74, he's at 86.
Might be fun but also might not happen. My guess is Starocci loses to Hidlay and is back wrestling for PSU next year, because pretty much every word out of his mouth is bullshit, so I take the opposite of what he says and expect that to happen. Really, really wanted to see O'Toole out there. He could be the 74 of the future if this is Dake's last quad. Speaking of Dake--his dad died this weekend, only 62 years old. It wouldn't surprise me if the finals at 74kg are postponed.
That wouldn't surprise me, but from what I heard he doesn't like playing school so he could just get paid to train with NLWC.
Seems like Dake would be giving up an advantage of having a guy coming off a couple of matches with no days rest imo
As of yesterday there were 4 uncommitted top 25 prospects in the class of 2025. Ohio State got commitments from #!4 Maddox Shaw and #15 Vince Bouzakis last night, and are still recruiting #1 Marcus Blaze and #21 Jarrell Miller
Think we’ll see new VT assistant next week. Robie said we hired our number one choice. Doesn’t sound like we’ll get anyone else, but lineup is looking really good for next year. Andonian is staying at SERTC. Mekhi has some options but might stay as well.
