What I posted in another thread:

Here is a list of the U-20 team that was called up for a camp that started yesterday and runs until July 5th:

GOALKEEPERS (3): Earl Edwards (UCLA; San Diego, Calif.), Zac MacMath (Maryland; St. Petersburg, Fla.), Justin Perez (C.F. Monterrey; Sabinas, COAH Mexico)

DEFENDERS (8): Cristian Flores (C.F. Monterrey; El Cajon, Calif.), Greg Garza (Sporting CP; Grapevine, Texas), Sacir Hot (Boston College; Fair Lawn, N.J.), Andrew Jean-Baptiste (Albertson; Brentwood, N.Y.), Aubrey Perry (South Florida; Ocoee, Fla.), Gerardo Saavedra (UW-Milwaukee; Milwaukee, Wis.), Zarek Valentin (Akron; Lancaster, Pa.), Ethan White (Maryland; Kensington, Md.)

MIDFIELDERS (8): Kevyn Batista (Desportivo Brasil, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Steven Birnbaum (California; Irvine, Calif.), Victor Garza (Tigres; Edinburg, Texas), Ernest Nungaray (Monarcas Morelia; National City, Calif.), Moises Orozco (Real So Cal; Oxnard, Calif.), Dillon Powers (Notre Dame; Plano, Texas), Roberto Romero (Cruz Azul; Pico Rivera, Calif.); Conor Shanosky (DC United, Sterling, Va.)

FORWARDS (5): Julio Cesar Castillo (C.F. Monterrey; Chula Vista, Calif.), Adam Jahn (Stanford; El Macero, Calif.), Ronald Mendrano Williams (L.D. Alajuelense; Ventura, Calif.), Adrian Ruelas (Santos Laguna; Fontana, Calif.), Omar Salgado (C.D. Guadalajara; El Paso, Texas)

11 players are foreign based players, mostly from Mexican squads. Most of the American based kids are currently in college or will be Freshmen.

Also, here is a wiki link that has the same list as well as a list of recent call ups to that U20 squad. Names I have seen multiple times as solid prospects from that list are Gale Agbossoumonde (on loan at Sporting Braga in Portugal from Miami FC), Emilio Orozco (Michael Orozco's brother), Bryan Dominguez (Miami FC), Luis Gil (Real Salt Lake), Sebastian Lletget (West Ham), Amobi Okugo (Philly Union), Tristan Bowen (LA Galaxy), Stefan Jerome (Miami FC) and Jack McInerney (Philly Union). There are also a few other guys that are on some overseas teams as well as the MLS.

Snowfx and a few others know a lot more then me, but just figured to throw out some names of some of our young prospects.

Earl Edwards is going to be a stud. i think he will be a prime example of what happens when our top athletes actually choose to play soccer over the more mainstream sports, with college basketball being the case here.

    Agree.

GK are just not that exciting. You only need 1 and Guzan is 25.

US will be fine at GK for eternity.

More worried about every other position.

FWIW, I've been really impressed by what I've seen from McInerney with the Union. He still needs to grow into his body, but he definitely has a striker's mentality and he plays fearless. I expected a timid kid, but he definitely he believes he belongs out there. There's alot of potential there if he can get stronger.

Pretty sure he also had some offers to go abroad, maybe to a Dutch team or two and possibly an English team or two as well. He's only 17, which is awesome that he is already getting some PT with Philly.

What do you think of Okugo?

From what I have read Hoyos is pretty awesome and is already getting time with Estudiantes. I never heard how he was able to leave the US after HS unnoticed.

Hoyas is eligible for both the US and Argentina.

Born and raised in the US, but both parents are from Argentina. Moved with Mom back to Argentina at age 15.

Supposedly both countries are interested in him for U-20.

    Another Rossi situation shaping up.

You are probably right. I just saw that he went to a HS in Socal and figured he finished there as well. Apparently he has an older brother that is part of the set up down there as well. Not a ton of English articles are out there about them.

    and Subotic

Not a fan of these when the other teams end up being super powers. Hopefully some of these African players like Mwanga, Renken, Gyau, etc. stick with us. I have also heard of two Italian kids that have said they want to play for the US, forgot their names, but they have been either called in or were considered to be called in for some youth tournaments.

    Not really the same.

Subotic was born and lived in Yugoslavia until age 5 then moved to Germany for 5 years and then moved to the US.

Lived in the US for 6 or 7 years and then went back to Germany to Mainz 05.

Sucks Subotic didn't choose the US, but it isn't like Subotic was born and raised in the US and then just gave us the finger and went and played for Serbia, which is exactly what Rossi did.

Mwanga is the only player than I could see playing for another country in part because Mwanga isn't even eligible to play for the US right now. Congo sucks though, so that helps our cause if Mwanga ever gets natuarilzed.

Gyau'd Dad played for the US, so I doubt that Gyua would switch to Ghana where his grandfather played.

Renken could play for Zambia, but I doubt it after growing up and being adopted by US parents.

He lived here for the longest and came out of Bradenton, which pisses me off that we spent a shit ton of time on him. It's not like the Hoyos' went to our Youth Academy. I know Rossi never played for the US Youth set up, so we obviously were trailing for him in the first place.

I still see it as different situations.

Suck that the US spend money on him, but Subotic spend about a 1/3 his life in the US before leaving to go play soccer, wasn't born here and didn't even grow up speaking English. Never really considered himself an American either. Sucks to lose him, but it isn't a huge slight to the US in my book.

Rossi was born and lived his whole life in the US before leaving to go play soccer. Rossi says he is American in everything but soccer. Much bigger f-u to the US than Subotic in my opinion.

Yeah I hate Rossi the most since he says that along with the rest of his situation. Subotic, I agree is different, but he did play in our Youth teams, which is usually a good indicator that they will play for that team's senior side.

I haven't seen alot of him. He's only appeared in 5 matches all year, and I think I only saw 2 of them. He's suited more for a holding mid role I think and it's really hard to judge a guy like that in such limited time. Now that the NHL season is over I should be able to watch pretty much all of the Union games. I missed like all their games during the playoffs.

Agreed, and it isn't like Subotic went to us, we went to him. Some scout saw him practicing and asked him if he wanted to go play for free at a 50K/year school. Who is going to turn that down?

I'd add Kellen Gulley to the forward list. Named the #1 player for 2012, and scores a ton for the U17 team. Good size, great athleticism, and can actually finish.

16 y/o FW Omar Salgado has told :bird: to Chivas de Guadalajara. If you're not familar with Chivas' policy, they only play Mexican players who would only play for Mexico, and they've tried to block Salgado from training with the U.S. and he got tired of it and has left the Chivas academy. He must be pretty damn good for being 16 y/o and being in the U-20 pool, and Rongen's been impressed.

This recent U-20 camp had 8 players from Mexico, one from Brazil, and another from Costa Rica. Garza was the only Euro based player invited. It'll be interested to see who goes to the Milk Cup at the end of the month because that should be the foundation of the U-20 team as they get towards qualifying.

But perhaps most encouragingly for American soccer fans is Mwanga’s excitement at the prospect of playing for the USA. When asked about playing for the nation of his birth, he was somewhat apprehensive, understandably so. Although he has yet to be fully naturalized, and hasn’t spoken with anyone from the U.S. Soccer Federation, he was much more upbeat on the subject of the U.S. national team, saying it would be "an honor" and a "wonderful opportunity" to represent the country his family has come to call home.
