The Ataris Boys of Summer Studio Version: Under Pressure - My Chemical Romance and The Used Apologize (Silverstein) Trailer Trash - Kevin Devine & Jesse Lacey
Orion (Full) - Rodrigo Y Gabriela Stairway to Heaven live (Rodrigo y Gabriela) Obviously tough to top Metallica and Led Zeppelin but these are very good covers.
some of them i either couldn't find a live version or the audio was awful, but here are some of mine:
Someone showed me this cover of Rihanna - Disturbia the other day. I like it much better than the original.
I was about to say Weezer's cover of Velouria by the Pixies. Then I relistened to the Pixies version. Pixies win.
Thought this was a thread about covers that were better, or more well known than the originals, not just listing covers. /thread All along the Watchtower & Black Magic Woman to consider You Shook Me (original Muddy Waters and yes better than AC/DC) Statesboro Blues (ABB with Duane original Blind Willie and no you jack shits Dickey & Dereck are not better)
Bruce's Atlantic City still wins IMO. Great song either way. Keeping it in the Bruce family, 10,000 maniacs do it better than Patti Smith and Bruce himself IMO.
I wont necessarily say that these are better than the originals, but Thrice does some great Beatles covers.
There's a chance this has already been posted. There's a chance I posted it. Please forgive me if so.
All the Pretty Horses (lullaby) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "Hush-a-bye" redirects here. For a lullaby with the same line, see Rock-a-bye Baby. "All the Pretty Little Horses" (also known as "Hush-a-bye") is a traditional African American lullaby from the southern United States. Contents [hide] 1 Meaning 2 Lyrics 3 Musical and literary adaptations 4 Sources [edit] Meaning It was originally sung by an African American slave who could not take care of her baby because she was too busy taking care of her master's child. She would sing this song to her master's child (Lacy 1986, p. 76). Originally, the lyrics were "birds and butterflies, peck at his eyes" but were changed to "birds and butterflies, flutter 'round his eyes" to make the lullaby less violent for younger children. This theory is backed by the reference to "wee little lamby...cried for her mammy" as slaves were often forcibly separated from their own families in order to serve their owners. This verse is in a very different emotional tenor to the rest of the lullaby, suggesting a particular significance. [edit] Lyrics The oldest surviving set of lyrics are as follows: Hush-a-bye, don't you cry, Go to sleepy little baby. When you wake, you shall have, All the pretty little horses. Blacks and bays, dapples and greys, Go to sleepy you little baby, Hush-a-bye, don't you cry, Go to sleepy little baby. Daddys boy mamas joy go to slumberland my baby When you wake, you shall have, All the pretty little horses. hush your crys close your eyes dream of pretty little horses hush a bye dont you cry go to sleep my little baby darkness falls sand man calls go to sleep my little baby When you wake, you shall have, All the pretty little horses. up and down round and round dream of pretty little horses hush a bye dont you cry go to sleep my little baby go to sleep my little baby. ___________________________________________________________________
I'm not saying that all of these are necessarily better than the originals. Just that they're really good.
I didn't listen to Timberlake's version but I feel confident he's not in the same stratosphere as Buckley
