Just starting book two and don't want to go into that thread but why does Robb not get his own chapters?
We learn enough about Robb through Catelyn but i do find it odd that all the other children have POVS(minus Rickon) and he doesnt.
so starting the series over again because i'm bored and beginning of book 1 i just went at the direwolf with the antler in it's throat. completely forgot that moment even happened and now i'm all *lightbulb* /retard
I hear you...when I was introduced to AGOT, I saw the HBO series first and then read the first two books. Afterwards I re-watched the series. I couldn't believe how much stuff I missed the first time through... Spoiler after reading Theon's betrayel in ACOK, I was blindsided because I assumed he was Robb's homie, after re-watching the series, they totally foreshadow the crap out of that plot line...that was my #lightbulb# retarded question... Spoiler IIRC in the HBO series, Loras and Renly kind of had a romance going...was that an HBO invention?
Spoiler It is mentioned subtlety in the books, but it is never thrown in your face like it is in the show. You will pick up on it more if you are looking for it
In response to your question: Spoiler It's heavily hinted at in the book, but GRRM never deliberately says it
just started rereading, and in the first Jon POV he describes everyone entering the feast after the King arrives - Ned & Cersei, Robert & Catelyn, then Rickon, Robb & Myrcella, Arya & Tommen, Sansa and Joffrey, then Tyrion and Jaime. there's no mention of Bran at all. I know it's inconsequential, but I just found it weird. is it just an oversight? suprised I don't remember noticing it or reading about it before.
**HUGE** Book 3 spoiler Spoiler Thats why I was pretty sure Robb was going to die early on. Turns out everyone dies whether they have a pov or not.
Why are you posting that in here? go talk about it in the book 3 thread, its not like theres nothing to talk about haha
lol I have ~15 pages left. Took me forever to finish as I never had the motivation to finish the book as I already knew what was going to happen. The good thing is that I will definitely be diving right into ACOK.
Nice. I just need the motivation to finish the last couple hundred pages as I already knew what was going to happen. I just wanted to get the more in depth story instead of just going straight from the HBO series to ACOK.
Ha yeah someone ruined the big storyline ending for me before I read it. I haven't seen the show yet but loved the first book. They are addicting though, I'll look up and it's 2AM when I think it's 11 or so.
Yeah, I'm a ways into ACOK. It kinda sucks, though (not the book), I'm reading it on my nook and on my phone on a nook app; so I can't really tell how many pages I am into the book, as I purchased the first 4 books of ASOIAF in a bundle. So, I don't know how far I am into the book, and I can't really know how much I have left to read. All I know is I'm on page 1233 of over 3400 pages in the bundle. k_d , could you tell me how many pages are in each of the first four books?
My Kindle doesn't tell me how many pages are in the books either, just percentages. I looked it up online through Amazon though and it looks like, for paperback at least, AGOT- 831, ACOK-1040, ASOS-1008, AFFC-1104, and ADWD-1040
i usually go to tower of the hand and look at the chapter summaries to get a feel as to how far I am. http://towerofthehand.com/books/guide.html be careful because there are some definite spoilers on that site.
Yeah, I use the Wiki to get an idea of how far I have left. Basically the same thing that you linked, though.
random thought - why did Jeor Mormont (Lord Commander) take the black? what's the rest of that story? he had the family sword Longclaw and his son Jorah ruled Bear Island before his exile so it would seem he was the heir, but why did he take the black in that case and how did Jorah come into power if he did? that whole thing seems weird to me. I know children from noble houses took the black sometimes, but very rarely was it the first born son. am I missing something?
Spoiler nevermind after looking it up it appears Jeor basically "retired" to the wall the let Jorah take over lordship of Bear Island when he matured. that's crazy. and what a kick in the teeth for Jorah to turn around and do what he did. then Jeor is stuck on the Wall and his butch sister becomes lord of Bear Island.
Spoiler shouldn't that be spoilered for this thread or not even mentioned in this thread, they haven't given that information yet
Spoiler I spoilered in case I'm wrong, but I thought you find all that out in the first book? Doesn't Lord Mormont tell the story to Jon when he gives him the sword?
just finished book one and i'm really trying to psych myself up for 2. book one was great, but this shit takes forever to read. not to mention that i have no concept of where anything is in my mind as i read it. there is the wall, then winterfell in the north, then the eeyrie and riverrun are somewhere in the middle, and then everything else i just consider the south where the iron throne is. also, daenerys basically lives on some other continent, but wants the seven kingdoms back. i know there is a map, but i dont want to keep checking back to it on my kindle. if i were to take a break i think i would lose the loose understanding that i have of all the characters, so i'll probably just keep powering through.
Dude, just look at the map. You will definitely need to have an understanding of it when battles start taking place. Just occasionally glance at it when you are reading and aren't sure where something is. You will be glad you did.
Started as a show fag. Now have the first book and will be starting it tonight. Looking forward to crossing over.
