It's a blast downtown. Cheap gambling and booze. It's more of a party atmosphere than on the strip. Less chicks, but fremont street is about having a blast with your buddies more than anything anyway IMO.
Right on. I don't really get the "it is more of a party atmosphere" part, but I guess you mean it is more bars rather than swanky bottle service clubs?
It's like a big street party most of the time. Most of the casinos are open to the street and close to one another so it's easy to casino hop. Usually stages with music outside and the canopy show. If you haven't been it's a little hard to explain. Think maybe bourbon street? how close that is because I've never been to NO but I imagine it being the same way.
Looked at a map, but couldn't really tell. How far is it to the strip? Toying with the idea of staying downtown to have access to some normality and just take a cab to the strip for whatever we want to do. Being dirt cheap is also an advantage. Thur - Everyone arrives whenever, gamble for cheap and get fucked up on Freemont. End up at a strip club. Friday - Recover, gamble, nice dinner on the strip, some club w/ bottle service, expensive gambling. End up at a strip club. Saturday - Pool during the day, pick our poison Saturday night from which we liked best from Thur/Friday. End up at a strip club. Sunday - Burn evidence, swear off drinking & gambling, cry a little, fly home.
It's not far. Easy cab or bus ride back and forth. If you get a bus pass you can ride the Deuce or Strip/DT express back and forth all you want. It's easy and quick. It's 2 different worlds. The resorty feel of the strip is cool, but downtown is nice to be close to that action. Check out the Plaza. Just re-opened, nice as a strip hotel, plus it's downtown cheap. El Cortez is also a good place to stay. I like gambling there and it's a negligible walk to the rest of downtown. Their cabana suites are pretty nice IMO. My first trip we stayed at ElCo and drove to the strip a few days. Got all of the strip stuff done and spent a lot of time downtown. Usually wandered to Fremont Casino for 3.99 steak and eggs in the mornings then did some cheap gambling around there before we headed out to the strip. Did strip stuff during the day and some nights and spent a few nights downtown. It's fun to live it up like a baller on the strip, but it's just as fun to hit the cheap and sleazy places downtown.
Pretty much what I'm looking for. Have 3 bachelor parties this year, my wedding I have to save another $10 grand for & two others I'll be in. Plus need to save for my honey moon. 2013 can't get here quick enough. All my extra money is going to be fun will probably go to my wife I'll check out the El Cortez & Plaza. Have 7 guys. I'd like to get a suite, but most are 1 King bed & living spaces.
A lot of places have suites next to adjoining regular rooms for the sole purpose of adding bedrooms. I still say get 2 rooms with 2 beds that connect.
Looks like I'm going to be in charge of a bachelor party sometime later this year or early next. Let me know if you pick up any tips on doing a LV party.
Damn son. I haven't been to Vegas in a few years, but there are plenty of places you can stay on the strip or right off it at some cheaper places that you can basically just use it to sleep at and then gamble elsewhere.
was thinking about doing the nascar racing thing the next time Im out there anyone done it or know anyone thats done it
May and June are pretty nice at night, July can get warm but most of the time it's not in the 80's at night.
I will mostly be playing cash games, satellites, and some smaller NLH events. Also the main event if I can sell enough of my action. I did the main this summer with 87% of myself and it was a huge mistake.
Bump. Anyone been to a Cirq show? Got my mother a giftcard for Christmas so she could pick her own and can't decide.
Was thinking Mystere or Ka. Have heard good things about both. Was interested in O until I found out that it is basically double the price. Some have said they love Ka other hate it. Yet to hear a bad word about Mystere and also just read it's getting some new stuff.
Ka has a more cogent story (very rare for a Cirque show), but it employs the leftovers as far as acts go.
Cash games at the Rio during the WSOP are some of the best games you can find, the only shitty part is there are no automatic shufflers.
I threw a bachelor party in Vegas a few years ago. Got 3 suites at THEhotel. Chose that place because of the pools - it was mid July and 100+ outside. Made for a great time during the day. Spend a lot of time at the poolside craps table as well. Make sure to call ahead to any strip clubs as they will provide free limo/no cover (recommend the Spearmint Rhino). The bachelor fucked up the first night out there and lost his wallet/ID. Had to call his wife the next morning to overnight his passport. The phone call was priceless. As far as clubs/bars, really depends on what your group is into. I would highly recommend buying a bunch of booze at a liquor store and taking it to your hotel room. Definitely helps out from a cost perspective before you go out.
did the love show and mystere, actually got put into the front row for mystere and our group was involved with the show. We were on a bachelor party and making a lot of noise before the show started so they moved us up. Both shows were awesome which dates you going? I might be doing new orleans the 16th-19th and vegas 19th- 22nd
I'll be there maybe April 27-30 (might cover the Jayhawk Invitational in Lawrence) and then twice in July.
I'm going on spring break with one of my buddies and his brother, who is a big gambler and we got the panorama suite at the planet Hollywood. I looked at reviews and it looks awesome. Anyone stayed there or heard anything about it?
Planet Hollywood in general is an above average hotel, I can only imagine what the panorama suite would be like. It's a little south for my liking but still in walking distance for most places on the strip.
Anyone been to any Brazilian steakhouses in Vegas? We went to Texas de Brazil last time and it was one of the top 2-3 meals I've ever eaten. Wondering if there is a better option out there as unlikely as it is.
fucking a, looking at rooms for march madness on vegas.com, IP is going for $142 a night, the fuck are they thinking? others: sexcalibur $81, circus circus $54, and riviera $60.
same the cheese bread was fucking insane went to a club that same night and couldn't even muster up enough energy to dance i was so stuffed said fuck it and hit a roulette table
Excal, CC, are shit. Riv is pretty much BFE nowadays. IP isn't great, but its in a great spot. To the Brazilian Steakhouse question : Some people I know (who are loaded) swear by Yolies http://www.yoliesbraziliansteakhouse.com/
not sure if that was meant to mean you need to be loaded to hit that place, but from the prices on their site they don't look anymore pricier than any other churrascaria
always stay at excalibur for our softball tourneys (guy who runs our team gets a deal so fuck it it's free) during march madness and it's always been a good time there can't fucking wait
