This is some cool stuff http://www.denofgeek.com/television...learned_from_the_game_of_thrones_blurays.html
Well there was no Jeyne Poole in season 1. Spoiler And we all know she has a part to play If they ever get that far...
I really don't understand why they do some things, they do a good job staying true to the source material and I understand that some changes are unavoidable going from print to tv, but some of the changes they make are just head scratchers and seem unnecessary. Also as has been said casting for the most part is great but holy shit Renly, Loras and Shae are awful
I think a lot of it can be chalked up to human error and shit happens. This project is immense, and things will get scrapped due to budget, weather, casting conflicts (see the Mountain replacement), and unforeseen difficulties. One interesting example, from that article somebody posted earlier with the filming facts learned on the DVD, is the decision to scrap the purple targ eyes. The scenes were shot with purple contacts on the actors, but the directors felt the emotion was not coming across from their eyes. They decided the emotional expression in the actors' eyes was more important than staying accurate to the story.
I don't think renly or loras are THAT bad. Just a little queer. Although I always pictured renly as more muscular just... Gay.
Renly is terrible. He's supposed to look just like a young Robert ie a 6'6" beast of a man that looks 'kingly'. The guy they cast looks soft and tender like any prisoner's dream roomie
I get the hate for Renly, but not for Loras. I mean, the show made them extra gay, as opposed to it just being heavily implied in the books. But the casting for Loras is pretty accurate in my opinion.
Loras is the next Jaime, in the show he looks like he is going to grow up to be the next Grima Wormtongue
to be fair, we have no idea what Jaime Lannister looked like at 16, he can still grow into his body, I guess
you guys are pretty fucking gay to still be crying over the casting, especially over those two characters.
It's not crying, it's confusion. HBO did so well with almost all other characters that the miscasting of these two characters is grossly conspicuous.
i'm saying it's irrelevant. books 3-4 spoilers Spoiler we all know what happens to renly early this season and loras is rarely featured even in the 3rd and 4th books
If I were casting the 16 year old Jamie as described in the books, I wouldn't cast that fag either. In the books, younger people looked older than we are accustomed to. This is a fair point. Spoiler The smaller parts may have been harder to cast because of budget/screen time. For those of us that have read the books, the characters are more important for all the references made to them.
not an expert like many of you but if you do a google search of loras tyrell images, most artist renditions aren't far off of what HBO cast
Not worth arguing about. My point is that someone the size of Finn Jones couldn't swing a fucking sword, let alone be a bad ass like Loras is supposed to be. I have no doubt Loras looked a little queer, but he would have to be bigger than that little dude is all I'm saying.
No I see what you did. I used the wrong word for my meaning when I said people in books "looked" like anything. If you guys can't see the difference between how HBO casted Rob, Jon, and Theon (all younger than Loras) relative to Loras, when Loras is supposed to be one of the best knights in the kingdoms, then there is nothing for us to discuss.
Now that you mention it, I think he was 10ish when he was taken to ward, so he must be older. Jon and Rob are younger than Loras, and look much older than him in the show. Their casting, along with Sansa, Arya, Bran, and Rickon tend to make the characters look older than their age in the books. Just seems the Loras casting was inconsistent with the others. FYI, I didn't bring this topic up and I don't consider myself an expert. I do agree with many on here that think Renly and Loras were poorly cast given their descriptions in the books. Still love the show.
all the above. I think a lot of it has to do with the writing/direction though. Her personality and looks are all wrong
They gave her a mysterious back story when she, Bronn, and Tyrion were playing the drinking game. Spoiler I don't think that was anywhere in the book. She was pretty much just a whore right?
Maybe they were just going heavy handed with the gay angle. I feel like of someone who looked like Sean bean went down on a man it would be a lot more disconcerting for most of America. Right or not.
Don't get me wrong, Loras should definitely look a little gay. Just seems strange that he looks like he has never lifted anything remotely heavy in his life.
