So I went to The Box last night, have any of you guys ever been? Might have been one of the most outlandish experiences I've ever had on a night out.

Yeah I've been... outlandish describes it pretty perfectly.

Also, I'm currently destroying a Westville breakfast burrito.

I went to Williamsburg Saturday night with my wife to see a show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg (great venue). I had dinner at the bar of the Brooklyn Star. :lick:

I had Country Fried Steak (1st time ever) with mashed potatoes and Pancetta. My wife had Fried oysters over asparagus, a poached egg, and duck confit. Both dishes were insanely good and relatively inexpensive ($15 and $14 respectively).

Went to Traif in Williamsburg a couple of weeks ago, one of the better places I've been lately, and very inexpensive for what you get.

I was considering going there as well. Also looked into Mable's Smokehouse, which sounds like solid bbq too.

Just had dinner at Frank Prisinzano's (Frank, Lil Frankie's, Supper) newest place called Sauce. It's the most different of his restaurants-- the other 3 are almost interchangeable-- and I thought it was pretty preeettaaaayy good. Delicious food, fun atmosphere, and dece prices too.

The Smith is only okay IMO. I'm a big fan of Yuca Bar on the corner of 7th and A.

As for boozing brunches, my 3 faves are Poco, Calle Ocho, and Essex.

You guys got any recs for authentic, hole-in-the-wall type places that are casual? Looking for an "only in NY" kind of place to take my parents to this weekend. As a reference point, I'd take them to Caracas Arepa Bar, but brought them there last time they were here. Downtown is preferable, but I'm open.

Yeah I've never been there for dinner, so maybe that's why I have it higher than others. I really love the breakfast burrito and churrasco (sp?) and eggs there.

I'd say the best place I've eaten dinner in the EV is Graffiti, by far. Hell, it was one of the best meals I've ever eaten, period.

What type of food? Anything preferred?

Pretty open. I kinda want them to get adventurous. My boy suggested Soccarat for some amazing paella. It's not exactly casual, but would be cool, I think.

What is this Graffiti place you speak of?

It a tapas place owned by Jehangir Mehta, who was the runner up in the second Next Iron Chef competition: http://www.graffitinyc.com/

The pros are obviously the food, and the wine is quite inexpensive as well. Plus is pretty affordable considering the quality of food. Cons are that it's the size of a closet. You're sitting on top over everyone, even people not at your table. So if you're claustrophobic, you might get anxious inside. Also makes it tough to get a table, especially on a weekend. And forget larger groups.

If anyone does go there, GET THE PICKLED GINGER SCALLOPS. One of the 3 best things I've ever eaten.

Vanessa's dumplings in Chinatown is always good. Will be tough to have a place to sit because its small and packed but really good food thats cheap. Also, clean and not normal nasty like most of chinatown. Also right across the street theres a small sushi place called Nagasaki sushi. Chef there is awesome, he's actually Japanese while 99% of sushi places in manhattan are chinese owned, he barely speaks english but will come out and do saki shots with you and generally be hilarious. Plus 3 different days of the week they have half price specials on certain fish.

I find Essex to be way too hard to get a seat, the food isn't great, and hard to keep the drinks flowing. Give me sunburnt cow any day of the week. Food's only ok but unlimited beer, screwdrivers, greyhounds, mimosa, and bloody marys during brunch plus as long as you are tipping the bartenders you'll generally continue to get free ones at the bar. 4 hours of open bar and food for what generally comes out to about $35-$40 including all tips. I don't think there's a better deal for brunch if you're looking to get fucked up plus hot australia waitresses is a plus.
