Just finished book one this weekend, started book 2- i know nothing. I wish I could've read it without having seen the show, it would have been that much better.
So I read book 1 last summer, then kind of fell out of reading book 2 like ~100 pages in. Show got going again this spring, class ended, so now I have much more time on my hands. Just finished reading book 1 again whereas it took around two months to read it last year. Plan on finishing the rest of the series sometime this summer. Am excited. I know nothing.
I finished book 1 and I'm about 1/3 through book 2. I just can't wait to catch up / get ahead of the TV show. I had a hard time finishing Game of Thrones because I found myself a little bored, knowng what was going to happen
I was the same way. I started book 2 yesterday, hoping to finish as fast as possible so I can finally read without knowing what is going to happen.
Reading Book 1 now. From watching the show I didn't realize how big of a bitch Lady Stark is. Or I just missed it. But the way she treats Jon is just terrible.
I was told that the ASOIAF books can be hard to read but so far they've been pretty easy to get through.
definitely will take me longer to read them than that. It will probably take me like a year to read all the books with the other stuff I have going on.
I read Game of Thrones really fast. Im having a hard time getting into Clash of Kings. Thats ok though, my only goal is to get ahead of the TV show, so I have plenty of time for that.
GOT was a lot harder to get through than COK or SOS. I got bored with it because it mirrored the series so closely.
I've watched the show and I'm currently reading GoT. I don't think seeing season 1 takes away from the book that much. The book is so entertaining and there is a signficant amount of material that did not make it into the show. There's a lot of history and background that wasn't introduced in season 1.
There is some very significant material in Book 1 that was left out of the show that will be important moving forward. The major plot, however, is very close to the show.
Does anyone else get pissed when you they finish a chapter and the next chapter is Catelyn? I'll be chugging along in the book, enjoying it immensely, finish a chapter, and then see the dreaded bold black letters: "Catelyn". FUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
Lol yeah there was one point where it went catelyn Sansa catelyn in the books and I contemplated suicide
Finished the first book last week. Loved it, and don't give a single fuck that I watched the show first. Very excited about reading COKs, but have a few others in the pipeline ahead of it.
I like to alternate fiction/non-fiction. Plus, I read a shit load. I'll be through them all before next season probably.
just started this book 3 days ago, about 120 pages in. definitely like it better than the show, so much is missed in the show (obviously they cant fit it all in 10 episodes). also catelyn and sansa should die, i hate reading their chapters
GoT Chapter Power Rankings (1)Jon-thought his joining the black and exploits on the wall were very interesting. The supernatural stuff beyond the wall is very interesting to me, might be the most interesting part of the books. Spoiler Really enjoyed the chapter where the wight attacks Lord Mormont's chambers. (2)Tyrion-like him for all the same reasons everyone else likes him (3)Denaryus-think the Dothraki are interesting. Think the Targaryians are interesting as well. (4)Eddard-the character on the TV show was cooler than the character in the book. He's just really formal and rigid, think the show does a better job of humanizing him. Although Starks are supposed to be rigid, cold, and harsh in general. (5)Arya-she's better on the TV show. All of the female characters in the book are pretty annoying. Arrya is less annoying but still below some of the other characters. (6)Sansa-just terrible (7)Catelyn-
just finished this book, way better than the show. i like knowing what the characters are thinking, although sansa and cat make me wanna kill myself. excited to read book 2 since everyone says it differs from the show a lot more than the first season. o and ned sucks in the books, his honor shit was awful
If Cat made you want to kill yourself in the first book then you'll probably actually kill yourself during ACoK
