This month's book: TBD Guidelines: We can start it back up. Let's make it really informal. First person to make a thread that says, "<Month> 2015 TMB Book Club Book is <insert book>". I'll pin it and we'll go from there. Don't start a new thread until it is apparent the old one is reached its course, say until the final week of the current month. ex. Results for week two are in and Ready Player One by Ernest Cline is the winner with a full 40% of the vote. We start reading it May 14th. PM me with new suggestions.
Just read up on this book. Looks good I am currently reading something else but should be done this week so timing should work out.
Everyone... I recently was offered and accepted a job back in Arkansas. I'm currently living in Mississippi. In the next couple of weeks, I have to find a house and move all my shit, while still working at my old job. because of this, I am stretched pretty thin and may not give this club the attention it needs (not that it needs a lot, but you know what I'm saying). So, if things seem to be neglected, that is why. I'll jump back feet first as soon as I can. Thanks.
Results for week three are in and Catch 22 by Joesph Heller is the winner with 57% of the vote. We start reading it May 28th. PM me with new suggestions.
I'm glad we got a book that is a little more on the literature side and will hopefully generate more discussion
I'll try and have it up later tonoight, or tomorrow at the latest. Packing for the move tomorrow and my computer will be in a box tomorrow night. Fucking hate moving.
Had never heard of The Man in the High Castle, but damn the premise is interesting as hell. Would not mind reading that one at all.
Should the original books thread be moved over to this board? http://the-mainboard.com/index.php?threads/books.502/ Was just looking through it and someone originally mentioned the idea of a TMB book club back in May of 2009
When does voting end? It looks like Man in the high Castle will be the run away winner. I have a kindle friendly copy if anyone needs it texasraider
So did anyone else read Man in the High Castle? I don't think it was officially decided but I picked it up anyway. I really enjoyed it, makes me want to watch wwii movies and shows though to remind myself of the ass-kicking we gave those japanese and krauts
Yeah seriously. I'm about out of book. And pick something worth a fuck cause I passed on Catch 22 and High Castle
The Man in the High Castle won and is our next book. Reading starts today actually. I'm terribly sorry, this moving and starting a new job has really taken a lot of my time. I'll get us back on a schedule as soon as I can. With the two week window we have, hopefully this delay won't set us back too bad. See OP for info. Also, I have created a Google calendar so we (I) can see what steps are next. If anyone wants an invite so they can see as well, PM me your email address.
If you need help in the next few weeks while you readjust to your new job I'd be more than happy to help
Thanks man, I appreciate it. I may PM you if things don't straighten out. That being said, we are moved in and have all the utilities on and most everything set-up and running, so the worst is behind me. Hopefully, I'll unfuck myself soon and get back on top of this.
I think the discussion on The Man in the High Castle is supposed to start today. I'm only two chapters in and it's hard for me to get into. Not sure if other people are having the same struggle.
Yes, it is. The first post in this thread will usually (God willing) show what book we are on, what phase we are in (reading or discussion) and the poll for the next book. So I need suggestions for the next book. We were supposed to decide last week and have this week to procure it, but last week was a pain in my ass. Tomorrow I am going to post a poll based on any new suggestions I get before then and some left-overs from past polls. Run the poll for a few days and give everyone the weekend to get it.
Fallen out of books for the club because of reading A Clash of Kings and now super busy with work. Hoping to get back into the swing of things in a few weeks.
Or, to translate, Arkie Proud, what the fuck you lazy asshole? ;) I honestly thought I posted the next book. Gah... OK, here is the plan. Today, when I get home from work, I post a new poll. Then we kick it off like normal. To be honest, it appears a lot of people have taken a hiatus, which could easily be because I have neglected this for a while. I promise to refocus this afternoon. I may PM you, however, for some assistance colonelrascals. Thanks for the offer.
New book is up. I looked back it has the most votes of any book that hasn't won. Taking suggestions for next book.
