I know this is the GoT board, and there is a books board but I figured this board would get more people that have read them. Plus the book board is not that active.

Are they good and worth it? I'm thinking about starting them, but I know he dies with like 2 books to go, undecided on whether or not to invest the time reading all 15 of these.

much more on the LOTR side of the Spectrum than the GoT side.

Much more fantasied and none of Shitty AMC Show of big time characters or the nitty gritty violence.

    I guess they're ok though.

Actually on the second one now. I really like them a lot, but ASOIAF is better. If you have the time I would recommend them.

they're very good books with great characters. the author left a shit ton of notes before he died and the guy who picked up the series for the final 2 or 3 books has done a wonderful job with them. go for it, you won't regret it.

I tried getting into the first book a few months ago, but lost interest at I think around the 1/3 mark. I guess I'll try to get back into it sometime later, but I'm not in a rush for it.

I really enjoy the series (and it has the plus side of the final book being released beginning of next year). It's definitely not as nitty gritty as ASOIAF but there are some huge battles and shit. And the scope of it is absolutely absurd it's so big. I think you'll enjoy it, you just have to realize there are going to be some slow parts, it is a 15 book series (I think it's 15 now).

Yea he's done pretty well so I'm gonna try and read some of his other stuff. I love how he's posted constant updates about the progress of the final book too.

Yeah he just started a 10 book series called The Stormlight Archive. First book is called The Way of Kings, gotten great reviews I want to start it after Wot.

I will be checking it out. Final WoT book should be out this winter or first of next year.

    Just finished the first book.

ASOIAF definitely has better characters, writing, and dialogue, but I think the story from the first book was just as good as ASOIAF so far.

He also comes out with like 2-3 books a year, simultaneously works on multiple book series, and also teaches a class at BYU.

    He's like the anti-GRRM

I think you'll grow to really like the characters. Especially rand, Perrin, and matt (my favorite)

Don't forget doing a complete re-read of WoT so he could be sure the final book doesnt disappoint.

Anybody read Sanderson's Mistborn series? I read it the summer before I read SOIAF and I thought it was really good.

I'm through 9 1/2 books in WoT and those 3 are awesome to follow, especially Mat. Perrin got a little annoying, but only when Faile is around. The aes sedai chapters are terrible to read most of the time. When I first started reading this series I didn't realize how slow it would progress. I like it, but sometimes things drag on for longer then I would like.

Matt is one of my fave characters in all of fiction. Thought about getting a similar tattoo on my shoulder, still rolling it around. This is an awful tattoo quality wise though.

I got Mistborn for Christmas and enjoyed it. Brandon Sanderson is an excellent writer. Just got the last book of the Wheel of Time series in the mail last week. I found myself reluctant to open it, because I know, once I've read it, there will be no more to read.

I really enjoyed the Mistborne trilogy.

WoT is also really good except for a few books in the middle that get tedious. The last book just came out too, need to read that.
