I think we would get along. I love that more subdued sound. Actually, I prefer it. There are a bunch of bands that are trying to emulate that sound, but Ghost and In Solitude are the only two that I really like. And I love In Solitude. I sold my In Solitude ticket at the last minute because the one friend I convinced to come with me backed out (not sure what your college buddies are like, but the only knock on most of my close friends is that their taste in music is narrow as fuck), and I still regret it. No doubt they'll never come to the West Coast again I've tried and tried -- the heaviest bands I like are like... Morbid Angel, Opeth, At the Gates, etc. I can appreciate like the early, raw black metal bands, but beyond that, it's pretty much a crapshoot. One of my friends is really into stuff that's abrasive as fuck... Job for a Cowboy and the like. I can't get into that. Spoiler just don't try to tell me the stuff I like isn't metal Not sure how much you guys follow labels, because I don't at all. But Metal Blade seems to have a lot of good, varied acts. Typically I've found new music by looking up who my favorite bands/artists liked, or through What.CD collages, but this is a new angle that seems alright.
Kind of the same - I used to find new bands by reading their interviews in guitar world. I picked up my first Meshuggah cd after reading that Adam Jones from Tool was inspired by them. Also got to like some bands by hearing them as opening acts. I still have some weird CDs I picked up at shows- orange 9mm, will haven, downset. Internet has changed almost all of that though.
No invites currently. But show me that you actually understand the concept of keeping a ratio on a torrance site, and I'll hook you up with one when I have a spare invite. Unless you just meant album lists, because I can do that
I doubt you're the only metalcore fan, since it seems like it has a bigger following than tech death and stuff like that
Outside of TMB, maybe. You guys seem to like all the same type of music. Megadeth, Opeth ect ect. I'm all for The Devil Wears Prada, As I Lay Dying, Apostate, Mychildren Mybride, Machine Head ect ect.
i don't think we necessarily all like the same stuff. personally i can't get into the brutal death metal that some people in here like do you know the band Across the Sun? they're from Portland. Portland has a decent-sized metalcore scene, but most of the bands are awful. i saw them live at some shithole theater downtown, and they were pretty good.
I definitely slant toward prog metal, but it has nothing to do with the heaviness. I love super heavy stuff; I just loathe those bands with the "breakdowns."
i'm not a metalcore guy, really, but i liked their album their "single" (i think) Spoiler http://youtu.be/2Q6G7p3YPKo their most listened to song on last.fm Spoiler http://youtu.be/K3gnPI1gLJE[/spoiler]
I lean the same way. It's really opened me up to all sorts of different music. I'm not into breakdowns, either, really
Yeah, I'm not new to this p2p thing. Between my newsgroups days and now migrating to torrance, I've learned that sharing is caring.
That's good to hear. I mean, I don't really care what kind of ratio you keep, as long as you don't get banned from the site. I've invited too many people who couldn't control themselves, and got themselves banned in like 2 or 3 weeks. I just don't have any invites now. I'll pm you when I do.

I prefer death metal as my genre of choice, but I like some metalcore when it is well done. I think Parkway Drive's most recent record was amazing and I listen to it all the time. I dunno, if it's heavy music and it's good, I'll listen to it. I hate people who eliminate entire genre's from their listening scope because of some media-generated genre tag.
In other news, I am really excited for Enslaved's upcoming album. The artwork is cool as fuck. http://www.blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=177018
Bumping with some thoughts. I love metalcore. Just saying. Trivium will always be one of my favorites. They're the reason I listen to metal. Also, let's discuss best metal covers of non-metal songs. Or just best metal covers.
This one always gets me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdXD7XCMc-c Iced Earth's Tribute to the Gods Album is just a bunch of great covers, this is one of my favorites http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rc0e-TP0xdU
These guys are the absolute kings of this type of shit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Masked_Men http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4jflr07SLs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_Xk0YQfbOI ...and my personal favorite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXvQ94Z1oDM
All great. Here's some of my favorites: You can't really cover Queen, but I really like this one Possibly the GOAT Fuck Transformers, but this is awesome I fucking loved this entire album. This is just random awesome noise Don't dismiss it until you listen
Used to love metal but been out of it for a while. All the bands I like are at least 10 years old. Can yall post like a top 5 list of artists you currently listen to?
It's not automatically out for me if they scream the whole time; I do enjoy a little melody here and there though Sometimes I don't even care about the vocals at all if the music is really badass. I am a guitar player so I always notice music more than vocals right away. Some of my favorite bands, I don't even know the lyrics to the songs that well. I don't just like technical shredding stuff though. I really like badass drummers and bands that play together as a unit. Just tell me what you guys like; I will prob like it too
and Mastodon has recorded a decent number of covers (Thin Lizzy) http://youtu.be/qTKYbATHHoQ http://youtu.be/RV7pXmM-gN4 http://youtu.be/0zPDAj568wo I like the Dream Theater cover of Orion more, but this one isn't bad http://youtu.be/fbD1uNfl0pE
Yeah I really need to check out BTBAM because I've heard a lot of people say they're awesome. What song/album should I check out first? EDIT: And you answered before I could finish typing my post I have listened to Mastodon and Opeth some. I haven't heard anything by Dillinger I could fuck with; it was just like sheer brutal noise from what I heard. What's a song you really like by them? And I haven't heard of Protest the Hero at all
I get what you're talking about with Dillinger. These 3 are the ones I listen to most. The beginning of this one is pretty crazy, but don't give up on it.
Yeahhhhhhhhhh. They don't really have what you would call "structure" but they're all unreal musicians and Tommy Giles Rodgers is one of my favorite vocalists of all time. He can just do so much. They can just do so much.
you might like the band Riverside also. their vocals are hit and miss, but they have a trilogy of instrumental songs that's pretty awesome. Reality Dream I, II, and III
Here's some bands that I really like off the top of my head, with song recommendations. I tried to keep it heavy, but on the more accessible side of extreme metal. They are in descending order of accessibility, imo. Isis Not In Rivers, But In Drops In Fiction Syndic Calls From Sinking At The Gates Slaughter Of The Soul Terminal Spirit Disease Need World Of Lies Fevered Circle Opeth The Night And The Silent Water The Moor Forest Of October Lamb Of God Laid To Rest Desolation As The Palaces Burn Omerta Bolt Thrower ...For Victory The Killchain At First Light Those Once Loyal Meshuggah Rational Gaze Pravus Bleed Combustion
Not sure if you're familiar with Animals as Leaders or the awesomeness of Tosin Abasi, but here: No vocals, but really, they aren't needed.
Sometimes I go through days where all I listen to is Viking-related shit. I know Odin knows what's up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz-ExsTjafQ
