The TMB Book Club takes a decidedly sci-fi turn this month. Wool (The Omnibus): http://www.amazon.com/Wool-Omnibus-Edition-ebook/dp/B0071XO8RA Word War Z: http://www.amazon.com/World-War-Oral-History-Zombie/dp/0307346617 Ender's Game: http://www.amazon.com/Enders-Game-Ender-Book-1/dp/0812550706 Cat's Cradle: http://www.amazon.com/Cats-Cradle-Novel-Kurt-Vonnegut/dp/038533348X The Amber Room: http://www.amazon.com/The-Amber-Room-Steve-Berry/dp/0345460030 I've read two of these (one was great, one was very good), started reading one and quit and have really wanted to read another. Great set of books. Good choices, folks. THE POLL: http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=50661cf9e4b0748b1ce4b7d4
I voted for my submission of Cat's Cradle but I wouldn't mind reading any of these. I've already read Ender's Game but it was a long time ago and I would read it again. Good submissions
Since I already recently started The Wool that was my vote. Also, all the comments about it being a future sci-fi classic drove me to start it
Monday afternoon. Really hoping "The Wool" gets it. I started WWZ and just did not like it. Spoiler alert: It's about zombies. meh. I read "The Amber Room" a few years ago. Good book. Has a "DaVinci Code" feel to it.
I've read WWZ and Ender's Game on the list... WWZ was alright, definitely not quite as good as I was hoping. The Wool is pretty solid, def enjoying. Ender's Game is a classic. Don't know much about the other 2, but will read gladly if they win.
Cat's Cradle is a dystopian novel by Kurt Vonnegut, the author of Slaughterhouse 5. I've never read it but its at the top of my list because its allegedly his best work. but like i said the other choices either are or sound great too so I'll gladly read whatever wins.
Im interesting to see how the discussion goes on the next book. Cloud Atlas was pretty deep (still trying to finish it) and could be interpreted a bunch of different ways. Amber Room is pretty straight forward, and Im guessing a zombie book isnt as layered either.
Ender's Game has a lot of discussion points. But man, I want to read Wool (actually already started). Never did finish Cloud Atlas.
Isnt Enders game a really large series? Like 8 books or something. Im not sure if I want to start that, when I still have ASOIAF to finish. Only half way through Clash of Kings
Either way - Enders game looks like its out and its a three way race. Speaking of which, what happens if its a tie? And isnt this after noon the deadline. CHAOS IN THE BOOK CLUB!
This ^. It was written as a stand-alone book, but when it went nuts, Orson Scott Card wrote more. I've only read the original, as I have herad the rest are... disappointments. I thought it was common knowledge that I broke all ties.
24 people have voted. I will be stunned if half of that contributes in this months discussion regardless of which book wins
I see only 19 votes... 5 for WWZ, 5 for Wool and 5 for The Amber Room. (2 for Cat's Cradle and Ender's Game). I'll check back every hour or so until one of them takes the lead, then call it.
OK, The Blackfish has already admitted he voted for Cat's Cradle and has read Ender's Game, both of which are out of the running. Since he is a (seemingly) dedicated member (he contributed to the last discussion and voted in this one... good enough for me), then he will decide what book we read of the three that are tied: WWZ, The Wool or The Amber Room. Reply to this post with your answer. We eagerly await your opinion...
Hello. May I join you distinguished gentlemen participating in this fine book club? I read Enders Game in law school and am currently reading WWZ. Im also ok with the other choices, as i have heard they are all good.
Purchasing Wool today was actually the first time I have ever utilized an E-Reader, so Team Paperback. For life.
Something in this sentence is lost on me. You utilized an e-reader for the first time, but are Team Paperback. Are you saying the experience of using an e-reader was so unpleasant that you will never again use one? I was Team Paperback until I started using my e-reader. Now, I couldn't go back. I have 5000+ books on my computer and 150+ on my Nook right now. Paid for like three. Love it.
It does take a little getting used to not holding an actual book, but the other benefits, vastly outweigh that imo.
House is a reference to ASOIAF showing where your allegiance lies. House e-reader House hardcover House paperback And I guess house audiobook but that is the equivalent of House Frey
Probably should have been more specific. I don't own a kindle or any other normal sized E Reader. I saw that I had a kindle app for my phone and downloaded the book to my phone. I read a couple of pages on my phone whilst on the shitter and it wasn't that great, again recognizing that phone does not equal E Reader. Im sure the Kindle is phenomenal. As of right now, however, I'm old school and like to actually hold the book.
I would very much appreciate a .mobi copy of Wool if they have it [email protected] imo. Finishing ADWD tomorrow on a flight so I'll be diving right into the next book. Excited to get back into the Book Club again.
