http://towerofthehand.com/blog/2012/09/03-worldcon-grrm-reading-forum/index.html Only the principal POVs have been known by GRRM from the start. Some POVs have been added when needed. The Meereenese Knot, for instance, was broken only when Barristan Selmy got his own chapters. He was ideally positioned to deal with all the relevant characters and events, and was one of the few that spoke the language. GRRM does not intend to add any more POVs. In fact, the number of POVs is about to decline. "Take your bets," GRRM warned. Anyone want to place any bets? There are 20 POVs currently living: Jon, Dany, Tyrion, Arya, Sansa, Bran Theon, Davos, Jaime, Samwell Cersei, Brienne, Arianne, Hotah Asha, Aeron, Victarion Connington, Melisandre, Barristan
I only see the Stark kids, Jon, Tyrion, Jaime, Davos, maybe Selmy and maybe Brienne surviving Maybe Asha as well All the others gonna get got
Alright lets say he cuts it down from 20 to 14 in TWoW. Pick 14 you think will be there. Jon Dany Tyrion Arya Bran Sansa Theon Jaime Sam Cersei Davos Victarion Brienne Selmy Got tough towards the end
Cersei is gonna get got eventually...hopefully the prophecy with Robert Strong is fulfilled in the next book Left Danny and Sam off my list of survivors
That wasn't a list of who I thought would be alive in the end, but a list of who I thought would have POVs in TWOW
Yeah I thought he was going to add one from the dude that ran up on Dany and drag the shit out getting back to Mereen.
I have a sinking feeling Davos is going to die. Now is it ironclad that means losing a POV means that character's death? I feel like we could never hear from Hotah's POV again and you wouldn't have to kill him off.
He'll save her for a chapter or two before a final battle. Hope she gets offed in the most degrading way possible.
Final chapter will be an epilogue by an unnamed, overweight narrator. Instead of the usual paragraph an entire page will be used to describe his meal to get things going.
I could definitely understand Bran not having any more chapters and still living, continuing to make little influences like the whisper from the trees and crows.
Same. I think the most disappointing thing about ADWD (other than Dany literally doing NOTHING) was the lack of Bran. I was loving his chapters and couldn't wait to see where things would go. Then we didn't hear from him again for the last half of the book.
It would piss me off too, I love Bran's character. Just seems to make sense if he has to get rid of some POVs.
I don't know how I feel about watching Bran grow into a tree and silently observe the happenings of Westeros.
I dont think there will be much more POV from him, but i think he will still be very active. Has anyone read the Theon sample chapter from the new book (http://georgerrmartin.com/if-sample.html). I think he will interact through the trees and ravens ect.
One of the very first scenes to come to GRRM's head in the ASOIAF series was a boy (Bran) witnessing a beheading. I highly doubt he'll just fade away into the night.
1.5 books in they were mediocre. Never been a big dream sequence guy (hated them on the Sopranos, outside of the Kevin Finnerty episodes), even though I know they are important. Then his story got really interesting for me. When I re-read the books I think I'll enjoy them even more.
Bran obviously could have tons more POVs coming up, I have no idea how the book plays out so I couldn't tell you if he fits into the story line or not. But where things currently stand, I could see his POVs growing slimmer and slimmer.
Martin has said that at this point in the story he's got to start pulling all the major characters back together. Everyone was in Winterfell when the story started (sans Dany), spread out, and now they're going to unite again (presumably in King's Landing). With that in mind, it's hard for me to see, with everyone in one place, Martin jumping to a cave North of the Wall with any sort of frequency.
I think Bran stays a major character with the story frequently returning North to check in on him (well, at least as frequently as it has been). I have no idea where his stroyline may go but I really think that he is somehow an integral piece of what is going to ultimately unfold.
Kings Landing will not be the place everyone comes together. the climax of this story will be the fight against the Others in the North. Bran will be very involved in that.
Started in Winterfell, Ends in Winterfell? Or more like just Started in the North, Ends in the North?
not sure how exactly it will finish but I think one of the main points of this story is that the fight for the Iron Throne will be rendered meaningless when the long night comes.
I really like how the Others just in the background while the Game of Thrones continues. I'm guessing the 6th book will end the Game and transition to the Others.
Pretty sure the final epilogue will take place somewhere in Winterfell and have everything come full circle for the Starks.
Both Bran and Cersei both have prophecies that both will be dead. Cersei with the Maegi and Bran with Jojens prophecy of his and Ricksons deaths in Clash of Kings ###SPOILER### Disagree Jon Snow is the 998th Lord Commander of the Nights Watch. The 1000th Lord Commander will be Jaime. Hes loved but one women, Cersei, and after she gets got, there will be nothing left for him but to take the Black. His storyline has made a mjor transformation from a Asshat to one of honor.
Dont know if the game will ever end, I think it will come down to who outlasts who. Once the Long Night plays its part, I think it will be a game of who will outlast the others.
well played Zeberdee well played. Im on my second read through currently p624 of Clash of Kings(Just passed Jojens Green dream on Bran and Rickon FWIW). I am reading through like a fine toothed comb because there is so much depth to the writing. Almost to the point of reading too much into things and trying to find loose threads. Damn you GRRM!!! I am all in on the Jaime Lannister eventually being the Lord Commander of the Nights Watch though.
With Jon being the 998th Lord Commander, GRRM has something about his usurper being the 999th. Whoever replaces the usurper will be the 1000th Lord Commander. There is something to this number otherwise Jon would have been the 815th or 684th,etc. The 1000th LC of the Watch will be someone of significance. I dont see anyone already up North in this role nor do I see Samwell Tarly fitting in the role. Enter Jaime. The guy starts the saga as the dishonorable brother of the Queen. Hes on the Kingsguard but is known as the kingslayer. His whole story progression is one of an asshat who turns honorable. The guy is not happy. His only love ever was Cersei and you know that is now broken and irrepairable. Cersei is nto going to survive this story. He doesnt want to love another. The known incest will make him a pariah and while he will be able to skirt the issue with war around, Once peace comes back to Westeros, there is nowhere but the wall where he could get away. He has worked on his sword play after he lost his hand but his days of a Kingsguard are numbered. There is no way he will live to be the heir to Casterly Rock and I dont see it. His talks with his Aunt outside Riverrun shows he truly is not made out to be Tywins heir. "Tyrion is Tywins son". My buddy swears by this idea and I actually have bought into it fully. He just wants to get away. If he survives the story, I think this is where he ends up I think the shoe fits but dont have much evidence to back it up but it seems like a good ending and it fits.
