I hate George. Seriously. Fucking Jon too. And right before that he was being such a badass. This hurts. I kind of expected the red wedding to go down. I kind of expected Tyrion to get shit on. But Jon? Fuck the nights watch.
What did you expect from a collection of murderers, rapists, thieves, and basically all the scum and castoffs from Westros? haha
I really hope that Arya figures it out that she can skinchange into Nymeria. A Faceless Man with the ability to also be a Dire wolf? Sweet. Jon too. I want all the Starks to skinchange with their wolves. Just seems cool, as well as useful and badass.
Jon was acting like a dead man walking for a while. All the talk about enemies on all sides, having no friends, struggling to keep his vows, etc. Knew something would happen with him.
Was planning on finishing this tomorrow, decided to stay up late tonight reading. A couple of quick thoughts: - The lack of Bran in this book was highly disappointing. Three chapters? Fuck. I was loving his storyline. - Epilogue was badass. Did a fist pump when Varys returned. - Dany chapters were :| :| :| :| :| The knot bullshit was so damn frustrating. "Here are your ships, enjoy kicking ass in Westeros." LOL NO, I CAN'T GET THERE UNTIL HALFWAY THROUGH BOOK SIX SILLY - Not worried about Jon dying. And even if he is, he'll be back through Melisandre's magic or some shit. No way he'd just straight up get killed like that. Feels good, man. Going to suck waiting for four more years with the rest of you guys for the next book. Work tomorrow will be mainly spent by catching up on the various threads I've avoided since starting the series.
So just finished reading the thread. A few more thoughts on the book: - Really surprised so many people think Jon is dead. Literally think there is no chance he's dead. All the build up for that? While it would be the GRRM way, his death was way too much like one's in the past where the people didn't actually die. He's alive. - Reading this thread only furthered my belief in all the filler that was in this (and AFFC). So much shit just seemed like it was there just to be there. Damn near 2000 pages between the last two books, and what's really gone down? I understand that there was so much that the first three built to, that there was a big battle taken out of this for the next book, etc., but damn GRRM, could we get something solved? I really don't think these books will end in seven now, and thus don't think they will be finished anymore. Was literally two straight books of the pieces being moved into place. Maybe I'm wrong, hope I am because I'd like the series to finish. - Still bummed about lack of Bran. Still bummed by the shitty Dany chapters. Interested to see what happens in four years when the book comes out!
GRRM's writing style still kinda bugs me. The way he rashes information over and over again. It seemed to be even more evident in the last two books. Reading them, it was almost like he wrote the bokks as a whole shit load of. like, 3 chapter short stories. Every couple of chapters he seemed to give a recap of what happened earlier. It was maddening at times. Like "I fucking get it George, I just fucking read that shit 15 minutes ago! Get on with it."
The way he spends multiple sentences talking about food just tells me he truly is a fat bastard at heart
are there any other books about the game of thrones universe, or is it just these 5? i need some in my life
Well, there are the Dunk and Egg books which take place a 100 years before the GOT timeline. Supposedly, GRRM was supposed to write book about the GOT universe, but knowing him that'll be released in 2015. I think Tower of the Hand just released a book, but other poster have more knowledge about it.
Yea like others said, The Tales of Dunk and Egg and the Tower of the Hand book is a collection of essays that break down theories that are out there and show hints that GRRM has left that either support or don't support the theories. That book is called Flight of Sorrows iirc
has anyone read a Flight of Sorrows yet? I've been waiting for someone to upload it on bib, but no luck so far. was actually considering paying for it.
I don't want to make a thread on this and know all of you have read them. I'm ashamed to say I haven't read LOTR, I'm starting them now. Should I start with The Hobbit?
You can but you don't have to. Its a precursor but not in the traditional sense as Tolkien wrote the Hobbit with no intentions of writing more books and then later decided to make LOTR
Sorry to resurrect a 1.5 yearpost but You know nothing Jon Snow! Oath keeper was made from the Valyrian steel that was Ice. The same great sword Ser Ilyn Payne used to behead Ned Stark. There is the blook of someone Jon loved dearly.
Ordered Dance last night off of Amazon whilst semi drunk. Have 200 pages left of AFFC and hope to have that done this weekend by the time I get my package.
Figured I'd answer you in here Fuzzy, since that was the book 4 thread. Hasn't GRRM said that he cut out a big battle or two from ADWD? I feel like I read that, but either way, it definitely showed. I thought the beginning of ADWD was great. Partly because I missed Tyrion, Jon, and Dany so much (though I finally started loathing Dany for much of the book), but I just thought the stuff that happened was super interesting. Once Dany declined the ships, it just seemed to stall all around, especially her story. Though her last chapter was very cool. Still think book 6 will be a lot of stalling from her until she crosses the Narrow Sea.
That's funny. I thought the exact same but flipped around. I thought it started extremely slow but picked up at the end with Danny finally leaving Meereen, Quentyn busting out the Dragons, Tyrion joining the Second Sons, Kevan getting got., etc.
Is there a far West or when you go West do you end up towards the east? Bruns and I aren't totally sure.
It hasn't been clarified, but I think the sailing west to go east idea will play a role at some point.
"To reach the west, you must go east. To go forward you must go back, and to touch the light you must pass beneath the shadow." So she's going though Asshai to come in the back way to Westeros.
If anybody can get more than 10, you have my full admiration - http://www.sporcle.com/games/mackiel/asoiaf-songs
not that it really matters, but I was just thinking, if Tommen and Stannis both die who is the rightful heir to the throne?
