I know this book series has been brought a couple times but after I finish the Wool series, I think I'm going to start this series. I don't know anything about it except that the series is mega long and has been compared to ASOIAF and LoTR and whatnot. I figured this series deserved it's own thread on the Book Club sub-board. Liked it? Hated it? Whatev...here is the thread for it

should not be compared to Ice and Fire.

It takes like 96 books before anyone important dies.

I loved the series. The middle ones do get kinda long and slow but the beginning and the last few have been amazing. Final one should be out in Jan or Feb. I think I'm about to reread the series to get ready for it. It's like ASOIAF in that there are a lot of details you can pick up on rereads. Oh and it's crazy that Jordan died years ago, the series is much longer than ASOIAF and it will still be finished years and years before that fat fuck finishes ASOIAF.

Found a copy of A Memory of Light on Friday, finished it last night. Good stuff, though as we were warned a lot gets left unanswered. Ending felt abrupt, like we could have had many more chapters explaining what comes next but it was satisfying enough.

Went to a couple of Wal Marts here after reading reports that others had found them on the shelf there. One didn't have them out yet, the other did.

I am going slowly. Only made it through the prologue, but thought it was well done considering I didn't really need to rely too much on my memory of events from before the book.

Really enjoyed the book, but wish more was written about what happened afterwards. I read that many books so I expect a little more of an ending.

Just finished it.. Kinda sad that it's done :tebow: i can see how after that many books it would seem kind of anticlimactic. Really enjoyed it overall though.

The only reason I'm mad is that I read 14 books and they end up letting me finish it. Fuck that, you give me the ending and I'll be happy then.

seems good so far. I like the fact that the main characters are coming full circle and that Rand is as close to his old self as he could be. I was very frustrated when he was like a robot in the middle books.

I stalled the last week and got stuck a little more than a third through. I am still enjoying it and love even more how all of the characters are finally themselves again but with more responsibility and maturity.

Just finished Winter's Heart (WoT #9). Thoughts below.

This book was interesting because it almost felt like two separate books slapped together. I'll be honest: I did not like the first half much at all. Perrin/Faile bs just doesn't matter to me, at least not enough to carry a book. Mat coming back into the picture saved the book. The Daughter of the Nine Moons intro was cool and I'm very intrigued by what Tuon will bring to the table. I'm sure I'm not alone in that I 100% expected her to be Seanchan from the get go, so I wasn't shocked by her reveal at all. I am interested in how that dynamic will play out with Mat. With Rand, his talk with Min, Elayne and Aviendah was funny to me, especially whenever he had sex with Elayne and Min and Aviendah were already bonded to him. Might have been the highlight of the first half (which also proves how shitty it was). I loved the second half when comparing it to the first. It was very solid. Mat and Tuon, Rand chasing renegade Asha'man and cleansing the Source, etc. This book wasn't nearly my favorite, but it definitely got better as it went along. Now I am on to Crossroads of Twilight, which I've heard is easily the worst in the series. So that should be fun.

Has anyone discussed how absurdly long Jordan's prologues are? The one in Crossroads of Twilight is 100 damn pages.

Yes, that also means I've started it after a break. I'll post my thoughts upon completion.

I want to say a lot of times he published the prologue a prior to the books so they were like in between novellas. I could be wrong though, I never read them like that.

I had read up through Knife of Dreams...and the next one wasn't out.

I never started reading the 12th book when it came out and this was years ago. I do wish I had finished the series but it's just too much work now

Just go to the wiki and refresh yourself on the books and pick back up from there. The plot details are pretty thorough.

I just finished Crossroads of Twilight. Short thoughts spoilered.

I won't type up many thoughts because, honestly, there's not much to discuss. Nothing major really seemed to happen until the last 50 pages. Dead people walking and Egwene getting captured. While I understand why everyone hates this book, I probably expected too much shittiness. I didn't really enjoy it that much, compared to others, but it wasn't as awful as I had built it up to be. It was just boring. Which is probably why everyone hated it.

    Off to Knife of Dreams.

The prologue to Knife of Dreams (also 100 pages) was more interesting than the entirety of Crossroads. Yep, that book was bad.

If you're at all like me, then the series is going to feel like a grind until Sanderson takes over.

Yeah, Knife of Dreams was the last book Jordan wrote. Books 7-10 were pretty slow.

I read ASOIAF several years back and I got me into the whole fantasy genre. I started reading a lot of series based on Internet lists or recommendations from this board. I put off WOT for a long time because of the bad reviews some gave it on here. Of course, everyone thought it started well and then drug on too long with not much happening. I finally got to a point where there was not much else on my list to look forward to so I picked it up. I ended up liking it. It isn't my favorite but it's pretty high up my list. I can see why people thought it took too long but there was never a time I wanted to quit. I enjoyed every book in the series. Thought it did a great job tying up loose ends which tends to go badly in a lot of epic series. I think anyone who is a fan of fantasy has to read it.
