OK, fellas. Here it is. Our first double nominated writer AND our first book of short stories. I've read two of these already. And looking forward to reading one of them. A Dog's Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron - http://www.amazon.com/Dogs-Purpose-W-Bruce-Cameron/dp/0765330342 New York by Edward Rutherfurd - http://www.amazon.com/New-York-Novel-Edward-Rutherfurd/dp/0345497422 Under The Dome by Stephen King - http://www.amazon.com/Under-Dome-Novel-Stephen-King/dp/1442345500 The Alienist by Caleb Carr - http://www.amazon.com/Alienist-Caleb-Carr/dp/0812976142 Different Seasons by Stephen King - http://www.amazon.com/Different-Seasons-Signet-Stephen-King/dp/0451167538
Only two that really interest me this time Im going to be late to this party anyway. I just started A Storm of Swords, and I doubt I will finish it by the 1st of the month
Rutherford writes badass historical books, but jesus h christ are they dry. I read Russka and was fascinated but would literally fall asleep reading it. Literally in the actual sense of the term.
That was my submission. If you couldnt tell with that and In The Garden of Beasts, Historical Fiction is probably my favorite genre. In fact, I may start a thread on it. Always looking ofr good recs. If New York doesnt win, I really hope Alienist does.
Not hating. Like I said, he's really good at it. But gaddam it can be tough going. Would still like to read ITGOB.
I'm rooting for one of the Stephen King choices or The Alienist but ill happily read whatever we choose, as usual, even if the main character is a dog
I've read The Alienist because it sounded intriguing. Was underwhelmed... Not to disparage anyone's nominee, just putting it out there.
Not voting because I don't know anything about any of these books, but IMO the book club should re-read book 3 of ASOIAF in preparation for return of the show. Or maybe that can be on the March list?
The only reason you shouldn't vote is if you're not going to read any of hem. I don't know much about them but I read their descriptions and reviews on amazon and/or goodreads
He quit on Cloud Atlas pretty early and there was something else he didnt like either that I cant remember. Its ok though I still Arkie
meh, wouldn't be a book club without a huge range of (strong) opinions arkie is good people because he also has an androgynous name
Like doesn't disappear from my total though Refusing to continue Cloud Atlas was bad but this is unforgivable.
Can't believe no one wants to read Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil, The Body (Stand By Me), and The Breathing Method
All excellent reads, by the way. But having a King novel really hurts it. I just don't like 'funny' books. Plus, I have Readers ADHD. And I have over 5000 books at my fingertips. if something doesn't interest me, I move on.
Spoiler I didn't nominate Art of Racing though, since I'd already read it. It was fan-fucking-tastic.
I love dogs, however I will probably never vote for a book about dogs. Similarly I love sports, but if this were a movie club, I would never vote for a movie about sports. (I probably will never vote for a book about sports either )
My nominee for March is already chosen: http://www.amazon.com/Born-Run-Greyhound-Competitor-Companion/dp/1593786891/ref=sr_1_11?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1359062287&sr=1-11&keywords=greyhound racing
While the latter part may be true, It has all but been decided that March's nominees will be the runners up from the last 5 months.
Apparently Spielberg is adapting Under the Dome for CBS Haven't even read the book and I'm supremely disappointed its not HBO/Showtime.
I finished 11/22/63 too recently to go Stephen King again... Not a huge fan of repeat authors for book club. JMO. Part of the reason we do it is to find new ones we might want to discover. FE: Bc of this club I will definitely scope another Ernie Kline book.
Yeah apparently it was being developed for Showtime originally (which is tied in with CBS) but is going to be on CBS now. Not even knowing exactly what will happen in the book/how "r-rated" it is, really sucks that it won't be on cable.
to be fair, that's a substantial temporal gap to be labeled a repeat book there have been, what, four since then? that said, respek
