Voted for 1st option, but would be just as ok with 2nd option, or even 3rd option... Only problem with first option is that I read the best 2nd place books, anyway. Hmmm, maybe I'd change my vote, and say 2nd option, but only include it if it was a close comp.
So if we go with option 1, Every March and September we would have a 2nd place poll. For this March our options would be 1. The Amber Room or World War Z (tied for 2nd) (October) 2. The Art of Racing in the Rain (November) 3. The Life of Pi (December) 4. In The Garden of Beasts (January) 5. February's 2nd place choice (February) If we go with Option 2, it would be 1. February's #2 2-5. New Books If we go with Option 3 people can just renominate a few months later if they want.
In the mean time, I strongly suggest Devil In the White City. Love that book by the same author. Would have nominated it, but I havent read ITGOB yet.
Went for option #2, but was thisclose to going for #3. There are, by my count, over a kajillion books out there. I like having a fresh set every month.
no need to make a big deal out of it really if freshness is desired, go with option 2. I wouldn't cry if my vote were rolled from 1 to 2.
The point of making the poll was to do what the majority wants and it's pretty overwhelming for option 1 which is fine with me, it's only two months out of the year anyway
I think it's appealing to people who nominate books (I don't, so I don't really care one way or another) that don't get selected. Gives them a fresh shot.
The more I think about it, the more I really want option #3. Why revisit loser books? Like I said earlier, there are tons of books out there. If we used this system from the beginning, we would never had arrived with Gone Girl, this month would have been all repeats. If you see a second place book that interests you, read it. I don't think most of us need an entire month to finish a book. Just not a fan of rehashing old books. Team Fresh Set Every Month.
