[IMG]EXCLUSIVE: George R.R. Martin, on whose fantasy book series HBO‘s hit drama Game Of Thrones is based, has signed a two-year overall deal with the pay cable network. Under the pact, Martin will continue as co-executive producer on Game Of Thrones, whose Season 3 premieres March 31. Additionally, he will develop and produce new series projects for the network. Attached to Martin’s upcoming HBO development is his long-time representative, manager Vince Gerardis. In addition to co-executive producing Game Of Thrones, Martin has written multiple episodes of the fantasy series. His TV writing credits also include The Twilight Zone and the original Beauty And The Beast. He is with WME.
Game Of Thrones quickly established itself as HBO’s next flagship series, combining ratings and critical success. Its most recent episode, the second-season finale in June, drew a series-high 4.2 million viewers in its premiere airing. For Season 2, GOT averaged gross audience of more than 10.4 million viewers per episode across various platforms.

Its hilarious and terrible that a man can write a series that millions love while simultaneously pissing them off so much that any news of success for him pisses us off. FINISH THE BOOKS

HBO just wants to be able to attach his name to a project...I highly doubt it'll be a significant time-suck for him. Relax, fellas.

I've officially given up hope he lives long enough to finish the series. I doubt he can even get it done in 2 more books.

Hopefully the show catching up with the books somehow makes him do it.

I doubt he would do anything on Robert's Rebellion until after the series was over, but that would be awesome.

Im 3/4 through the 3rd book. They are great. I would recommend at least getting ahead of the series. That is my goal. Im pretty excited for season 3 because I will have read the book by then and get to watch it from a different perspective.

reading his Tuf Voyaging book right now, just got to the half way point, it is very good, the main character reminded me a bit of Varys so I googled it and found this, I think it would translate well to the screen as well

George RR Martin’s Haviland Tuf To Join Game Of Thrones On HBO?
Posted February 10, 2013 by by Brendon Connelly

HBO have signed up Game of Thrones and Wild Cards creator George RR Martin to an ongoing TV development deal.

This could mean they will end up developing a superhero anthology based on Wild Cards, or a Thrones prequel derived from his Tales of Dunk and Egg.

Or we could be seeing his space trader Haviland Tuf make his way to the small screen.

Tuf Voyaging is a so-called “fix up novel,” a longer work patchworked from pre-existing shorter pieces. It tells stories of interplanetary travel on board “the ark,” a terraforming warship.

The book has been recently reissued, prompting to Martin to write about it on his blog. As well as promising fans that he’d like to write more Tuf tales at some point, he also addresses the possibility of it becoming a TV show:

It has also been suggested that I make TUF into a TV series. Hey, love to. But it’s not up to me. I need to find a studio and network willing to back a new space show to the tune of many millions of dollars, and that’s not easy. I have pitched Tuf before, and hope to pitch him again, Real Soon Now, but honestly, he’s a tough sell. Television likes its starship captains sexy, like Kirk and Captain Tightpants and Rocky Jones. Tuf is a towering, hairless, fat, pompouse fellow who talks like Alfred Hitchcock and loves pussycats. Not an easy part to cast either… but hey, every time I see Conleth Hill playing Varys [in Game of Thrones], I go “Hmmmmmmmm.”

“Real Soon Now, ” he says. That would be with HBO, I’d imagine – or otherwise, I don’t know what the point of their deal would be.

Well, consider this the first show of support for the idea. I’d certainly watch a good, well-made Tuf Voyaging TV series, and Conleth Hill doesn’t seem like bad casting at all.

HBO really shouldn’t be worried about their lead character looking so “un-TV,” but if they do get tied-up over this, surely they could just “make up for it” with a pin-up ready supporting cast.

I get that, but he would definitely be involved in the project thus taking time away from finishing the series.
