We restarted Season One for the 11th or 12th time the other night. Its funny to see how politics has changed since then. Can't wait for Mandy to GTFO though.
I struggle to make it past season 4 when I restart the series, I start to lose interest and focus right after the election I kinda want to watch the last two seasons sometime soon for the campaign stuff, but I'm not sure if I'll get around to it
I have a hard time watching last season because I know they changed the winner of Santos/Vinnick because John Spencer died and that pissed me off. I was as loyal a fan as anyone could be, they could have thrown me a conservative bone at the end.
campaign stuff makes it worth it, i agree that once CJ becomes COS the stuff revolving around Bartlett kind of sucks especially once Josh moves on.
only knock against him was his age and the fact that his VP was very conservative, otherwise he was perfect. I dont mind them changing the ending because of Leo's death but the nuclear meltdown thing pissed me off. I really liked Santos' education plan but i wouldve liked a less extreme version
but he's very moderate and from there, not totally unbelievable. Santos beating Vinnick isnt believable, even with the nuclear reactor. Vinnick was the man
yea i dont think santos shouldve been able to carry texas, wouldve made more sense if they just switched
dunno if this has been mentioned here before, so I'll just throw it out there. have any of ya'll watched the Danish show Borgen? its essentially their version of West Wing/Newsroom combined. Just finished watching it a few weeks ago. Pretty good tv if you like politics, particularly learning about Parliamentary structure & procedure. you can watch it here: http://watchseries.eu/serie/borgen
Basically if you watch the first season we are best friends, the whole series you have to put me in your wedding.
Excellent show. The campaign parts of the show are pretty spot on. My favorite episode is Josh, Toby, and Donna get left in Indiana. The whole insulated bubble around the POTUS clashing with real life is so damn perfect and accurate.
That along with the presidents speech about the streets crowded with too many angels. Amazing episode, good choice. I've always had a place in my heart for the big block of cheese day episodes. Ron Swanson (Nick Offermen to those people uneducated in the ways of Park and Rec) is in the first BBOCD episodes as a guy promoting the wolves only highway.
Probably my favorite episode, with the President's speech and Toby and Josh talking to the random guy at the bar about sending his kids to college. The first four or so seasons were among the best of any TV Show. When Rob Lowe and Sorkin left the show took a bad turn to slow and boring. I did think it finished strong. Charlie was a very underrated character.
so lets think about this for a second. Jules Ziegler a former member of Murder Inc, fathers two sons(might be more kids): The first works at the white house, as the communications director, speech writer, prickly pear, as well as being a world class political mind and strategist. The second is/was a fucking astronaut. Spoiler http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKbOdCiaT8U&feature=related
toby is supposed to be annoying. wouldve loved to have seen (both literally and figuratively) more of ainsley haynes
Last ten minutes of S5 E 7 Separation of Powers just re-sold me on the show. From the Chief Justice calling the President a pussy and the President going back at Haffley. Gold. Show was bumpy for a bit there from end of S4 until now. That episode was great.
I will not tolerate criticism, however mild, of West Wing in any fashion. We may rank shows only from Very Good to Greatest of all Time.
It allowed John Goodman to play the roll of every neocon's wet dream, taught a civics lesson and set up the marriage troubles for POTUS and CuntPOTUS. The writers needed a way of creating Clintonian martial discord without making us hate Bartlet. The way they found her was kind of clumsy though so I'll rank the episode only as Great instead of Epic.
I mean, the way she was taken was clumsy too. They convince a drug dealer to swap ecstasy for a roofie to a Prince, who may or may not be giving it to her, then when she goes into the bathroom they yank her? When if she hadn't taken it she'd click her panic button and it'd be over? Hell, what if the Prince took it way before and was out cold? They were balancing 90 plates on sticks and somehow zero fell. Then a random falling into finding her? WE GOT A PHONE CALL and executed a retrieval in like 20 minutes. This show isn't The Wire and I don't expect it to be perfect, but eh.
I am blowing through season 5 relatively quickly so I can get to 6 and the early stages of the next election
goodman was a boss president. on the topic of later seasons, the leo/bartlett drama was terrible and i hated every second of it. nobody can be mean to leo and get away with it
Count me as not shocked Spencer died in real life. He was like 55 when the show started, he looked damn near 65 in the first season. He did not age well.
Leo is my favorite TV character of all time. There's no way a person of his moderate temperament and politics rises to that level in the government, but we wouldn't love him if he was a hyper partisan.
Only watched 1 episode so far, was really preachy, and obviously I'm his target demographic being liberal and all. I'll finish West Wing, then House of Cards, then if nothing else gets in the way move on to Newsroom.
