This is actually is something that I have thought a lot about I went to Hoover and got a good education but not a great one. There is the opportunity to get a great education but I didn't take advantage of it. At the same time I was exposed to a lot of different people which included some sketchy and some great people. I wouldn't move back to Hoover but I think there is a great benefit to growing up around a diverse group of people. One of my worries about sending my future kid(s) to private school or somewhere like mountain brook is they grow up in even more a bubble then I did. I guess the opposite side is you protect them at a vulnerable age and give them a better opportunity to succeed academically. I don't know if there is a right answer. /end ramblings
Hoover is much more diverse than when I graduated in 98. I would say Homewood is probably the best mix of diversity and quality education. I also don't believe race is the only marker to look at. I'd like my kid exposed to people from people who have lived in other parts of the country and don't follow the evangelical super conservative sheep. While I am obviously a pub, I think being around all types of political ideology while growing up is important.
I think for every person it's different. Alabama in general though does not have near the amount of strong private schools as other states even in the big cities. I'm sure the Mtn. Brook/Hoover/Vestavia school systems has a lot to do with that in Birmingham but who knows
I'm sure I know a few people that went there but I can't think of who they are right now. As I'm sure you know, they don't offer high school so you're still going to need to find another school for them at some point. At that point, your choices are Altamont, Indian Springs, Briarwood, or one of the OTM public schools.
The guy who came on before him was pretty damn funny also. The black people extreme sports - riding dirty with white kids joke slayed me.
polo is for poors send your kids to MB, homewood, or vestavia. If you live in one of those three cities and send them to private school, they'll more than likely end up being a weirdo.
I think there are more than 10 years ago, but there are a lot more as you head down Clairmont toward Crestwood and then in Crestwood, just because a lot of us can't afford a $500k house. Those that can tend to go MB.
That was half of what I was getting at earlier. Those are good schools but basically let you get out of it what you put in, which probably is the same for any school in the country. However Birmingham doesn't have any what I would consider good normal private schools.
Ha. I miss the good old days when I was at Hoover High School and it was a good academic institution and we sucked balls at football. I would have sent my kid to the Hoover schools I knew. Gwin to Simmons to Hoover. Even then though (89-91) Gwin was starting to pick up apartment dweller trash from down the street.
But you missed out on those rings bro. Seriously though I grew up in the system through that transition and it is kind of a shame they let it happen. I still think it is a good system and a good city to raise a family in. My biggest gripe with Hoover right now is you can't go out to eat anywhere but a shitty chain restaurant.
My biggest gripe with hoover is there are police everywhere I look....constantly criss crossing each other on 150, 31, and valleydale, its a fucking police state.
Ha. I got rings, but they were for track, xc, and swimming. Exactly right about the chain restaurants everywhere. You see my above post about all the apartment trash? Frank Skinner never said no to new apartments being built every week and now a constant police presence is needed to keep the people living on Lorna Rd area in check.
Yeah, there's a reason Vestavia and Mnt. Brook have moratoriums on multi-family zoning. Hell, people fought tooth and nail to keep Vestavia from annexing Cahaba Heights.
I started at Trace Crossings in '94 and it was a good school. Now apparently it is the bottom dweller of Hoover City Schools. Then went Berry to SPHS. A few years after I finished Berry they left that shit hole building and built a mini-me SPHS building.

Any recs on a casual dinner for tonight? Burgers, steak, BBQ something like that. Doesn't need to be super high end.
Saw's Soul Kitchen in Avondale is a hole-in-the-wall, but it's really good. You're right next to Avondale brewery, too, which is cool. Or you could pop in to Saw's Juke Joint in Crestline Park. Mr Mortisay lives across the street.
We're moving before my son starts school in a couple of years. I'd be all over The Preserve if it wasn't zoned for Gwin.
I'm looking to rent a 3-4 BR house starting in July or August. Ideally I'd like to be in an area like Crestline, Crestwood, Homewood, etc. and I've been on Craigslist and Zillow and places like that - any other suggestions as far as finding a place?
Can't help you there as I don't have a Facebook. But my girlfriend looks at that shit constantly so I know such a group exists. I, too, am looking for a home in those areas so I'm reluctant to help you, bruh. Spoiler Just kidding, of course. I'll ask her and see what the name of the group is and let you know.
Best place to get a suit for some summer weddings 400-600ish range...Not Jos A Banks but not Remon's...
Went to a Crawfish boil at Ross Bridge that turned into a huge mud pit. Probably 200 kids diving in the mud. Looked like the last time I went to Bonnaroo
