i put more people in this backpack than anything else http://www.deuter.com/US/us/backpacking-trekking-/act-lite-65plus10-4340115-120.html
Neighborhood of $200 on each piece maybe. Possibly more, but that seemed to be a good mark based on looking around online and at REI
Is there a way you can get commission from my purchases and/or the club thing? Talk to me about tents. Looking for something that is decently portable and can sleep 2 and a dog. Are vestibules good for storage or no? Also, in a desert does the rain fly matter at all or should I not let it affect my choices?
I don't make commission, and even if I did those numbers don't really apply to me. Thanks though (if you aren't a member join, and use my employee number just because I'll find it funny). as for tents I'd look at a half dome 2+. Its what I recommend to 95% of people for a starter 2 man. you can store in a vestibules.
I really like my packs from mystery ranch and kifaru but colonel is going to be able to get you a much better deal
If I ever need a full size tepee or a pack that can carry a whole rhino you're the man I'll come see.
I use a mystery ranch and am about to buy a kifaru frame. Just not needed for 99% of people buying packs.
Need a new one man tent and new boots. Need a 4 season and like room for gear. Hike for a week at a time so light weight but that goes w/o saying. For boots I've always used Sundowners but I've always wanted to try Salomon. Any recs are appreciated. TIA.
where do you live and how much winter camping do you do? any 4-season is going to be heavy. that being said I have this http://us.hilleberg.com/products/red-label/akto/Akto.php and am looking at this http://us.hilleberg.com/products/black-label/staika/Staika.php as for boots I usually use a pair of la sportiva ganda guides, but will be picking these up to try out http://www.arcteryx.com/product.asp...&subcat=Boots&model=Bora2-Mid-GTX-Hiking-Boot
I have some Salomon hiking trail shoes and they are comfortable as shit. My buddy has a sweet Kelty 2 man tent that is 4 seasons. But you're gonna pay for it with that brand.
Live in VA but pack in the Northern Cascades. Kelty is what I've used for the last 10 years and it's been awesome, but it's outdated
I hear what you're getting at and you're probably right, get a 3 season. We're around 10k in late September. Most of the time 3 season is fine but you can still get blasted up there. I also hope to do more winter treks in ME and VT as my kids get older. Ok so what's a good 3 season 1 man?
how much do you want to spend. there are great options at various price points, but the difference in a ~250 dollar tent and a ~350 dollar tent is not weight. the difference between a 250 and 500 is big.

Think I'm gonna go with Salomon Quest 4D II GTX. http://www.rei.com/product/881783/salomon-quest-4d-ii-gtx-hiking-boots-mens
Have you ever been there? Scenery is out of this world gorgeous. Mountains are so damn jagged and gorgeous.
I thought that was northern cascades, but didn't know if you took it or got it from the internet. A couple weeks ago I took the gf up and around the area on an afternoon drive. All really cool until we came to Oso :/ that shit is just sad.
I've literally spent a whole day in there. Then walk over to My Brother's Bar for buffalo burgers and beer.
Yes, vestibules are good for storage. Get a 2-door/2-vestibule tent if possible. And rain fly is still important in the desert. Even if it's not raining, it still provides shade during the day and helps with warmth at night.
That's Lymen Lake and glacier. Pic is taken from Cloudy pass. North Star is behind me in that pic and Glacier Peak is looming just to the right of that pic in the background.
If you fly Southwest, use the rapid rewards shopping portal and you can get 9 pts/$ right now at backcountry.com
Awesome, know the exact area. Impressive area as well, not a lot of areas to get there, how long and far did you backpack? Lake Chelan, Lake Wenatchee?
Float plane from Chelan to Domke. Then hiked from Holden up to Lyman lake. Climbed North Star one day hit some secluded alpine lakes. I have a buddy that lives in Twisp. The remoteness and how secluded it is is one of my favorite things about the area. Spent a week out there. My buddy kept going and did almost 4 weeks. He's a mountain man hard core.
Recs on an inexpensive tent that will be stationary holding 2 plus a dog in NorCal wet/rainy/windy season. Emphasis on water resistance. TIA.
colonelrascals despite my best efforts to do otherwise I ended up with both things you suggested. Got the bag $50 off, too. That was a no brainier. Tent was a little more difficult choice but ended up with HD 2+ for the extra room for the dog and the double vestibule.
