It appears the old Horror movie thread was lost, so, here we go. Just started listening to "The Movie Crypt" podcast on Geeknation with Adam Green and Joe Lynch. Pretty good if you, like me, enjoy the stuff behind the final product.
Wasn't The Babadook supposed to be highly regarded? Watched it a couple weeks ago and thought it was pretty bad.
Somebody took a tape recorder into a showing of Halloween in 1979. They've synced the audio with the film.
Hey, fuck you for posting an M Night trailer without telling people it's an M Night movie. Wasted about 3 minutes of my life
I thought the Babadook was pretty good. Last night I watched "As Above, So Below"......it wasn't that good
I always laugh whenever someone references RT critic's opinion. You do realize any of those guys with more than a handful of followers get compensated to fellate something, right?
I mean, I feel like it could have been a good movie. I've never been a fan of British horror movies though. They all have the same feel that I hate watching... and fuck that stupid fucking little kid. Edit: It was actually Australian I think. Still sucked.
Oculus >>>> Babadook. These two often get compared, I have no idea why. On the comedy tip: Housebound - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3504048/ This is hilarious. Fuck what you heard... Zombeavers - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2784512/ Witching and Bitching - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2404738/
I really liked the babadook. The kid was supposed to act like that to make the moms actions believable.
Finally getting around to watching The Babadook. Did anyone else laugh really hard when she told her kid to eat shit?
And therein lies your problem: Australian movies generally suck. And that's coming from an Australian, so I should know.
Australian horrors well worth a watch Black Water Picnic at Hanging Rock Wyrmwood Wolf Creek The Reef Loved Ones Ghost Ship 100 Bloody Acres Dead Calm
Babadook and Oculus were so good. So happy that they put some effort into these movies. Cinematography and story were on point.
Oculus is in my top 5 horror movies of the past few years. Very unique storytelling for a horror movie.
I really really liked Oculus, but still felt like something was missing. I have no clue what that something is, but it was so close to "holy shit this is an amazing horror movie", but didn't quite make it imo. I have no idea what I'm talking about.
For me it was really good when the brother was questioning the sisters recollection of the past and you weren't sure if you could even trust the movies pov anymore. But then it became obvious it was really a demon and it turned into another decent haunted house movie. And as soon as they establish the anchor on a rope kill switch early on in the movie I was like
Yeah, I watched this movie about a month ago and thought it was pretty good, but I had a couple of issues with it especially the rather predictable ending. As soon as they revealed the killswitch and the warped reality stuff, I thought "ruh roh, this won't end well for anyone".
I enjoyed the ending. I hate when movies try to be too smart/cute by going for a twist. Also finally watched Triangle the other day. Really enjoyed it as well. Had fun trying to ppke holes in all of the "time travel" issues, but that's what makes movies featuring time travel fun. Higly recommend a watch to those who haven't yet. It features your standard slow buildup typical of horror movies. Characters being dumbasses, exploring creepy shit and inexplicably splitting up, etc. Then, there is a death scene about half way through (maybe 1/3) that will absolutely hook you.
Just watched the Babadook last night in the middle of a thunderstorm. Was absolutely terrifying at times. Spoiler Was much less scary but a better movie when I realized it was an allegory for depression
How was it? Getting great reviews on RottenTomatoes. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/it_follows/?search=It Follows Edit: Spring also looks interesting, but I guess it could be one of Horror, Sci-Fi, or Romance which is so bizarre. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/spring_2015/?search=Spring
Not a fan of Oculus. Whole movie is like... is this real? Is this really happening? Yes it is! J/K LOL NO IT'S NOT. So you get to the end and stuff is happening on the screen and I'm just like... so did that really happen? The movie's just over now so... I guess it did? And I was just at a point where I didn't care anymore. Loved The Babadook. It Follows was very good but I'm not sure it was great. I may have to watch it again.
guess I already expressed how much I hated babadook Maybe doesn't fit the topic entirely but for my tastes I still think The Others is the GOAT. Also loved Funny Games. Maybe those are considered more thriller though
No, I've seen both iterations and they're both good. The constant breaking of the fourth wall makes it so much more intimate though. I felt like I was partially to blame for what was happening to the family. I'm always impressed when filmmakers can manipulate the audience that way.
Mannnn fuck you. The Manson family basically pulled that shit off minus the hostage shit. My parents have a cabin in bum fuck no cell-ville. Also, I'm sad for all of the kids you show shit ass movies to.
