Last episode was pretty boring. Attack on Paris should be pretty awesome though. Floki's plot line is very odd to me. I'm not necessarily sure why they've taken his character the direction they have with questioning every move of Ragnar.
This season has been excellent. I wonder how far they are going to take this show with regard to Viking history Big historical spoiler below Spoiler Will they go through Ragnar's death or will the show end before that? Have to think it would be hard to introduce an entire new cast of his grown children. Then again maybe they'll just fudge a bit on the history of Ragnar
Spoiler Bjorn Aged 10 years between seasons. They could do another jump I suppose. Agree it's been a great season
Catching up right now... On episode 3 of the current season. They are doing the bath scene, so mad it's on history and we will not see Lagertha naked.
I wasnt too crazy about last week's episode. A 60 minute fight scene where every major character died. Except wait...they are not really dead!! Hopefully tonight's episode gets back on track of something resembling an interesting story line.
Meh, more mindless action. In three weeks this show has gone from some of the best TV out there to some Spartacus level bullshit...sans the gratuitous nudity. The downward descent has been astounding. Apparently here I am alone here in this opinion. Whatever...Im still in til the end
so when ragnar said something along the lines of "forgive me for what i'm about to do" at the end of the episode prior to the paris invasion, he was speaking to the christian god?
Not fully caught up, so I can't really read this thread (still need to watch eps 9-11). Call me a pussy, but I'll be damned if I enjoy any other TV show currently still going more than this one. Love it. Still super pissed that History has it, and there is no nudity, because that's the only downside I can find. The battle scenes are legit.
Just like last season, the writers did a great job of making you think everything was all doom and gloom for the Vikings and then they end up prevailing. Another good season.
OK first let me say that was a great finale. Still one of my favorite shows on TV. But are they really going to recycle the theme of Rollo going against his brother? Maybe that has historical significance, but to me it just feels like lazy writing. And is Bjorn fighting a bear the best preview of next season they can come up with??? Odin help us if that is the highlight...
First Ragnar and Rollo were not brothers in real life. They lived during different time periods. If anything I can see Rollo next season actually helping the Vikings take Paris from within the walls. And Bjorn fighting a bear is awesome, I don't see how you can complain about that when they havnt even shot next season yet.
It looks like they're taking Rollo and finally matching him up with his historical role in all of this. Should be pretty entertaining.
This was stolen from the pages of history. Harold Hadrade reportedly took a walled city in an almost identical way.
10. BATTLE AT A FOURTH CASTLE. The fourth castle which Harald came to was the greatest of all we have been speaking about. It was so strong that there was no possibility of breaking into it. They surrounded the castle, so that no supplies could get into it. When they had remained here a short time Harald fell sick, and he betook himself to his bed. He had his tent put up a little from the camp, for he found quietness and rest out of the clamour and clang of armed men. His men went usually in companies to or from him to hear his orders; and the castle people observing there was something new among the Varings, sent out spies to discover what this might mean. When the spies came back to the castle they had to tell of the illness of the commander of the Varings, and that no assault on that account had been made on the castle. A while after Harald's strength began to fail, at which his men were very melancholy and cast down; all which was news to the castle-men. At last Harald's sickness increased so rapidly that his death was expected through all the army. Thereafter the Varings went to the castle-men; told them, in a parley, of the death of their commander; and begged of the priests to grant him burial in the castle. When the castle people heard this news, there were many among them who ruled over cloisters or other great establishments within the place, and who were very eager to get the corpse for their church, knowing that upon that there would follow very rich presents. A great many priests, therefore, clothed themselves in all their robes, and went out of the castle with cross and shrine and relics and formed a beautiful procession. The Varings also made a great burial. The coffin was borne high in the air, and over it was a tent of costly linen and before it were carried many banners. Now when the corpse was brought within the castle gate the Varings set down the coffin right across the entry, fixed a bar to keep the gates open, and sounded to battle with all their trumpets, and drew their swords. The whole army of the Varings, fully armed. rushed from the camp to the assault of the castle with shout and cry; and the monks and other priests who had gone to meet the corpse and had striven with each other who should be the first to come out and take the offering at the burial, were now striving much more who should first get away from the Varings; for they killed before their feet every one who was nearest, whether clerk or unconsecrated. The Varings rummaged so well this castle that they killed all the men, pillaged everything and made an enormous booty. http://www.shsu.edu/~his_ncp/Hardrada.html
Harald came 200 years after Bjorn. So yes you are correct, but as am I. So it is likely Harald heard of the famous Bjorn ironside 's stories and copied them. Here is Bjorn 200 years prior. After raiding down the Spanish coast and fighting their way through Gibraltar, Björn and Hastein pillaged the south of France, where his fleet over-wintered, before landing in Italy where they captured the coastal city of Pisa. They proceeded inland to the town of Luna, which they believed to be Rome at the time, but Björn found himself unable to breach the town walls. To gain entry, he sent messengers to the bishop to say that he had died, had a deathbed conversion, and wished to be buried on consecrated ground within their church. He was brought into the chapel with a small honor guard, then amazed the dismayed Italian clerics by leaping from his coffin and hacking his way to the town gates, which he promptly opened, letting his army in.
just finished this season...once again, very enjoyable....like a poster mentioned earlier, didn't really like how Floki's character turned out, but maybe he rebounds...hate that rollo once again is considering stabbing ragnar in the back...rollo could be so bad ass (he already is, but stay loyal!) but have to think he's got something else up his sleeve and will eventually help out his viking kin...paris princess does it for me
Finally caught up. This show is just so wonderful, especially when juxtaposed against walking dead which is just awful
