Did this thread get lost as well? Was going to ask the Charleston experts where the best places to try and live were. Single, 25 years old. Would be working in North Charleston but open to all suggestions.
Didn't you say it was dangerous as hell? Or just to live there, similar to...fuck, I don't know. Guess the downtown/corporate part is alright?
i'm not even sure if N Charleston has a 'downtown.' North Charleston is a new concept, it didn't exist as a municipality until the 1970's. Now the boundaries are almost as big as Charleston's. Today its basically where all of the Charleston area's dirty industry, military bases, and utilities are located, like an unplanned sprawling industrial suburb mixed with undesirable residential land.
Yeah see what you can find in mount pleasant. Long point Road area, apartments on johnnie dodds, East bridge town lofts near the bridge. What part of North charleston? Certain areas it will be nice to be closer to 526. Pm me if you want
Mt P, John's Island, James Island would be my choices over North Charleston. Depends on where you are working and driving. Traffic should be one of your main considerations. All areas have some good bars, food, etc.
What type of rent are you looking to pay? Right now West Ashley has the cheapest rent price, followed by James Island. Mount pleasant is expensive and downtown is the most expensive. If you work in north chas, I'd suggest getting a house or apartment in west Ashley, only takes 5-10 minutes to go from west Ashley to north chas. Trust me, you do not want to live in North Charleston. The level of crime, the lack of amenities compared to downtown/beach area don't even compare.
I am heading to Charleston for a concert in a couple weeks with a lady friend. I need to recs on places to eat and go out. She lives in Mt Pleasant, but I am guessing we will be going out in town.
made the decision last week to go visit the rents over memorial day. will be the first time back in charleston since christmas. thinking of hitting wild olive on the way into town friday evening
Its pretty cool. Their selection isn't crazy yet but it's pretty solid and the set up is sweet. I love the shit out of that place
For all of you foreigners, let me explain some basics about charleston. Mount Pleasant is new money, the cost of living there is very high, mostly because all of the northern transplants built their huge vacation houses in mount Pleasant. Mount pleasant is also awesome, beautiful women everywhere you look, low crime rate, great place to live. Just expensive in most parts and some parts of mtp take 45 minutes just to travel to downtown. Basically everyone wants to live here. Downtown is old money, rent is a bitch because of the high demand. You get a place downtown you will probably love it, the college girls and the endless bar scene is awesome. Crime in certain parts is bad, but you won't have much of an issue as a guy. James island is up and coming. I have lots of friends that live there. Also provides a good spot to live close to DT without paying high rent. The distance to north charleston sucks though, I wouldn't recommend that drive everyday. West Ashley, because it is located so close to north charleston, has regressed immensely in the past 10 years. I've lived here my entire life. Our biggest problem is too many low income housing apartments that were built after the 70's have now turned into public housing. Which in turn increased the crime rate. West Ashley is awesome besides that though. It only takes me 10 minutes to get downtown. 10 minutes to James island. 15 minutes to MTP, and about 15 minutes to get to the heart of north charleston. If I was you, someone that worked in north charleston, I'd look at west Ashley because your drive to work won't be bad everyday, you can still party the DT life, and you pay an acceptable rent.
my sister lives right across the street from wild olive, so its always a good bet I end up there. but I have only been to fat hen twice and enjoyed it both times, so I should probably go back
Go to Sullivan's and go to obstinate daughter, same people that own wild olive and it's great. Definitely favorite new restaurant and top 5 for me in general right now
Yeah that's kind of far for you, but it's totally worth it. Just find a couple of people to split an uber with and get drunk at hometeam, poes, taco mama as well
Stayed in north charleston for like a month, didn't feel in danger at all. I was staying out near the outlets. Cabs/Ć¼ber to downtown are a bitch from there though' $20+ each way
I didnt really care for SNOB. Love fat hen and need to make it to obstinate daughter. Pissed Im out of town when youre coming through dawgonit . Def would have done the Sullivans home team/obstinate daughter day
we will be back a lot this summer. keeping costs low before the wedding by vacationing with the rents.
Arkadin where do yall normally go out? dallasdawg tried to get me to meet up with you guys when I first moved up but I got super busy with work
sullivans, finz, shelter, triangle, shem creek, black sheep, sometimes downtown like beerworks, stars, biergarten, prohibition. downtown really where ever everyone else wants to go because thats probably the only reason im going avondale every now and then
I need to find more places to drink on James Island. Downtown seems like a young mans game. enjoyed Bohemian Bull the last time I was in town.
theres a bunch of decent spots downtown for your age imo james island obrions, brickhouse, smoky oak, or go around the corner to avondale
ive done the whole being black out in downstairs stars thing more times than a normal person should thing as well
I was catching up on Southern Charm last night and got a good laugh out of Craig suggesting that they all go to Trio. In the summer of 2006, the Trio Club had a "customer appreciation hour" every Thursday from 7-8 p.m. They wouldn't let anybody in during the hour, but it was free drinks. For ten straight weeks, we got there at 6:45, bought a beer, drank as many free drinks as we could in an hour, and then leave. They never caught on.
Bee Street lofts downtown right now. Place is awesome, but my roomate just got engaged so Im moving out in a month. Just signed a lease on a place on President for next year. Needed somewhere close to the hospital for work.
