I've been considering starting but I don't know if it's a good fit or if it officially makes me gay.

Anyone do it? Like it? Hate it?

We used to have a yoga thread. I do yoga pretty regularly and am a fan, though you need to find the right style and instructor for you. I have a lot of injury issues from years of wrestling, and yoga has really helped me get back into shape after not really being able to exercise.

Well the styles are really different so it's worth trying a few to see what jives with you.

Bikram is often hot yoga and is a set series of the same postures, which I think can get a bit boring. I also don't feel like it covers the whole spectrum of your body within that set of postures.

Vinyasa is a flow style. There is more variation than with bikram but it also tends to have the more airy fairy vibe, which is also not for me. It also bothers me that there is less focus on getting the posture correct since you're busy moving the whole time.

I do Ayengar. It is a lot slower and really focuses on getting the posture correct. Some times you'll hold the same pose for a minute or two. Ayengar also uses a lot of props like straps and wooden blocks to help you achieve the position. A lot of people think it's boring because it's so slow but it works best for me. There are other styles too but those are some of the most common.

My usual instructor is also not typical. Actually he's a grouchy old man who yells at people but it works for me better than some old hippie lady or some hot instructor who is distracting me. So you'll want to test around on that front too.

Tip one that I feel the need to share after visiting family in Atlanta and doing a trial membership at a bikram hot yoga studio - Listen to your body! If something hurts, don't do it! These idiots were pushing first timers to do postures that were going to get them injured. I was shocked.

Basketball player I knew pulled a Matt Leinart his final year of college and took 1 class.... Yoga. He absolutely swore by the shit, couldn't wait to go to 'class' every other day and it had nothing to do with all of the fine-ass bitches that participated, rather had everything to do with how good he felt after doing it and how well he felt it made him play.

I tried it once... some shitty beginners youtube video. Actually really enjoyed it but was afraid somebody might see me do it through my blinds so I never did it again.

I used to do yoga every Thursday, but stopped for some reason. It made me feel a lot better, and it made me stronger at certain exercises when I was working out.

DDP Yoga. I've done yoga off and on the past 2 years. I started bc I had a herniated disc in my lower back. Really helps your core and flexibility, which is a huge factor with people with bad backs. You also great a great strength workout most of the time.

Yoga is awesome. I personally prefer more of the power yoga stuff as I find the traditional vinyasa stuff really boring. Power yoga is great because I actually feel like I'm working out.

I do DDP yoga sometimes and it's really good, but I hate working out at home, so I'm not real consistent. Think I might give a studio by my house a try this summer

as long as you can get over the uncomfortableness of some of the poses, you will enjoy it. I do it on Sundays usually and feel damn good for the beginning of the week. (Mondays suck, right? Might as well feel good while you're hating your job)

I have done Yoga sporadically in the past and liked it but it is now about to become a regular thing. I just found out my back is more or less fucked so I have to change a lot of what I am currently doing. I have been pretty much a cripple for the past 5 days (L-5, S-1 degenerative disc with the beginning stages of sciatica). I am feeling better but once I am back to "normal" I am starting a new workout program that has yoga in it twice a week.

Lovvvve Yoga. Ayengar is my favorite I guess since I've done a couple different styles. Body sounds like a bag of popcorn sometimes. I think chicks in the classes dig guys that do it too since it's 80% women, 10% men and 10% old asian women mocking you because you can't do some of the poses that they can.

haven't tried bikram or anything, we have free yoga classes at the company gym, and they still work me over. Always dripping sweat throughout, what we do seems like ayengar, long pauses on each pose, making sure you are doing it correct, using blocks and such to assist. Always does a great job of stretching me out between lifting days, but I still get a great workout and don't feel like I wasted the day.

This chick has a good YouTube series of short (~20 min) workouts to serve as an intro to different poses, etc.
