Second the D-Day Museum. I spent a few hours talking with a vet who just hangs out there waiting to talk with people who are interested in history. No Cafe Du Monde tho? Gotta my beignet on.

I am looking for hotel recommendations. Near or on Canal would be ideal. Will split time between bourbon st, french quarter and the casino. It's a bachelor party, will likely have 3 guys to a room. Really just looking for something that isn't a complete dump, will have towels, and won't destroy us on wifi and parking one car.

Obviously there are like 50 to choose from, just wondering if anyone has any experiences lately.

Look in the CBD. Central to both. Usually look at price line or one of the booking sites and pick something in the CBD.

Or check out vbro/airbnb. I believe Lou Holth :/ ) found a good deal that way

August needs to be on the restaurant list. Frenchman Street is also a damned blast if you can pull yourself away from frozen daquiris and shitty strippers.

Clarion on canal should meet your needs. It's about 5 blocks north of the burbon. It's a little cheaper than some other stuff on Canal, but nice enough with free wifi.

May want to taxi back late night though

Got a reservation at GW Fins for one of the nights. Is that place pretty good?

I'll be going to NO next week for 5 days. Thanks for the suggestions so far. Can someone elaborate on the scene at Frenchman Street, and how it differs from Bourbon Street?

I've only been to NO once and was again there for business and only went out once. This time it with two buddies from work and we should be able to eat well and booze it up while there.

bourbon is just a massive shitty tourist trap with the sole purpose of getting annihilated. its bachelor party fun

frenchman is live music, not dirty and shitty, not strip clubs every other door, actual drinks instead of buckets of flavored sugar

Going to New Orleans this weekend with my best friend, staying on Dauphine St. Have been a few times but want to get some good recommendations on good places to go for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

    Thanks friends

This x100. If you've never been before, absolutely hit up Bourbon Street. It's awesome, but people erroneously think Bourbon Street and the surrounding area is all there is to New Orleans

Frenchman Street is by far my favorite block of bars. You can walk into almost any bar and hear awesome live jazz.

And I second the airbnb recommendation. It's pretty much all I use in NOLA now.

But also, be careful. NOLA has gotten dangerous as fuck the past few years, particularly in the French Quarter.

Are you looking for fancy places, atmosphere places, or just good food? Will you have a car, or everything within walking / street car distance?

Prefer walking street car distance, but can get a car out if absolutely necessary.
Lunch places can absolutely be down and dirty for good food.
For Dinner since we will be there two nights would like to do one fancy and then the other can be a food/atmosphere combo if that makes sense.

    Breakfast-
Camellia Grill, Elizabeth's Atchafalaya, Cafe du Monde, Slim Goodies, Ruby Slipper, The Grill (This is the FQ version of Camellia Grill), Mothers

    Lunch/Dinner
Mothers, Cochon Butcher, Commanders Palace, Jacque-Imos, Deanies, Acme Oyster House, Palace Cafe, Central Grocery, Brennan's, Dragos, Le Petit Grocery, Eleven79, Parasol, Pascal Manalie, Port of Call, Atchafalaya

Really where you're staying there is a lot of good food, it's hard to find a bad restaurant. Go to urban spoon, or yelp and it should be good enough to get you into a good place

One day you should rent bikes and ride around the city. You can ride from the bywater thru the marigny into the quarter and to uptown in 30 minutes at a constant rate.

Also, at sunset take the ferry across to algiers and back. Its free for pedestrians and gives a really pretty view of the city.

Food is great but its $$$. Also, get there earlier than later to avoid long waits. If you do end up with a wait, there is plenty to do around that area to kill time.

...I don't drink and am typically in bed by before 10, so someone else might need to give you a hand with this one.

Frenchman St is the place to be for a more relaxed feel, good music though
