Atlantic Crocker is a bottom fish that is actually pretty good eating.

Not to be confused with other garbage fish with a similar name

I ended up getting a Plano guide series bag on Amazon. It's got room for 4 3500 boxes and ~5 bags of plastics in the main compartment. I broke it in yesterday. Pretty pleased with it so far.

gf and I finally booked our wedding venue at Lake Burton and are going up in June for a planning session. got a house right on the lake so I'm gonna try to catch some bass and browns on the fly while up there. having never fished flat freshwater with a fly rod - HOOSINSC do you have some tips for that area?

other general bass/panfish fly tips are appreciated. thanks.

What wt of rod? Those trout can be deep in lakes. If you're going for bass and bream I'd use poppers around any cover like timber or lilies. If you have a heavy enough rod you can throw streamers. Seems like a lot of guys like chartreuse and white for bass. Also a few crawfish imitations. I've only used my flyrod on a few ponds with mixed results.

Owsley probably knows more about if than I do.

I don't know why the tips of the fins are white like a brook but I've caught a bunch of these lately. Must be some hatchery hijinx.

I missed three big fish on dry today. A brown maybe 18" came out of the water after my stimulator :l

I have a 5wt and an 8wt. After doing some reading it appears most browns will be 30+ ft by that time of year - so I'll use the opportunity to hone my popper skills

Looking for advice on leader/tippet length and line recommendations.

Do you have a good site where you order flies online?

On poppers I've started to cut back my leader a few ft and tie on some 4x or 3x. I read about some guys making their own leaders using 15, 10, and 8lb test mono. Tying blood knots and making an 8' leader. That's a little too much for me right now. For most bass and bream your 5wt will be fine. Unless you hook something really big. Then you probably won't have the power to keep it from running into cover.

I settled on flyshack.com for flies. All nymphs and dries are $.89 and they've been quality so far. Good prices on the poppers and streamers too.

Unless you're going to be throwing meat and big deer hair type flies, the 5 will be fine. Nothing fancy on leader/tippet, just your typical 7.5-8' rig. I order most of my warmwater flies from www.feather-craft.com

it'll be tough to get away from the lake since it will be a family vacation tied into a wedding planning trip - but I thought about sneaking out one morning and getting on the Tallulah. Moccasin Creek has some decent access also and is supposed to hold some good fish, and it's right down the road from the place we booked.

This is the first year they're relaxing the regs on sturgeon here. As of June 1, the season will be open state-wide (not just limited to two border rivers-the Rainy and the St Croix) and will be open almost year round, rather than just a month-long season.

Also, I'm getting my boat out of storage this weekend. Muskie opens June 6.

Will be in Islamorada next Wednesday through Monday morning. Company fishing trip Wednesday and Thursday, Friday morning will have all to myself and then the family coming down for the weekend, will be doing a bunch of fishing with the little man. Can't fucking wait.
Last year I had no clue what I was doing, fished for a couple hours, got a little barracuda and a parrot fish.
Looking forward to a ton more time and reward this year.

I won't be going out to the blue water with the customers, but I'll get some time under the bridges before they come back and I work the docks.

Some bait shops sell good ones for adding, but since you have a bass population already established they might not last long enough to repopulate.

Spent a good bit of time at the water today. The Bass are spawning and very active, probably caught 15 or so. Caught what appears to be a perch bass mix? And stopped to catch some bluegill with the kids.

One of my best friends from back home took a trip down the St John's River and took all of these on the fly...boogle bugs. I was not invited. Needless to say...he's now an ex friend.

Any idea what those top three are?

Some kind of bluegill. Were those off spawning beds? Sometimes you get some crazy colors from bedding fish.

I can't be 100% sure, but they appear to be standard bluegill with the others being coppernose bluegill. They could be redbreasted, but judging on the size and ear I don't think they are.

edit: Now I think they're redbreasted. IDK.

For Paul George, failing to make the playoffs as part of the Indiana Pacers allowed him to resume his other passion: fishing.

The star forward recently won his first bass-fishing tournament, teaming with friend Jacob Wheeler to land 20.17 pounds of bass, with the largest a 5.49-pounder landed by George.

The tournament was held at Geist Reservoir, a popular fishery on the outskirts of Indianapolis. The bass were released after the weigh-in, as is customary during tournaments.

Not surprisingly, George has become addicted to the competitive aspect of a sport in which instinct, talent, finesse and luck are part of the game.

“Won my first tournament last night with my bro @Wheelerfishing,” George stated Wednesday on Instagram. “These things are pretty intense but I’m hooked now.. Love the competition!”

He chose a worthy companion. Wheeler is a pro who has won some major competitions, including the 2012 Forest L. Wood Cup and, most recently, the Bassmaster Elite Series BASSfest.

Last year Wheeler qualified for the Bassmaster Classic, which is often referred to as the Super Bowl of bass fishing.

He posted the same photo on Instagram, stating: “Had a great night in a local tournament with P. We won with 20.17 and tied for big bass at 5.49, which [George] caught. Successful night on my home lake.”
