teaser looks about as discreet as the first one something about rachel mcadams with a kevlar vest on makes her hotter than normal
God damn I can't wait for this shit. Sopranos, Wire, and TD are probably the only shows I've ever really looked forward to, and planned to watch new seasons.
Taking a pretty little thing like McAdams and trying to pass her off in a gritty cop role is already a step in the wrong direction for me, but I imagine it will still be very good.
Game of Thrones has been depressing this year so doing a rewatch of this marvelous season of television. Daddario's tits are even better the second time around. If the 2nd season is half as good it will still be pretty solid television.
Told the guy I work with we are watching this next weekend on nights. He's never seen it. He's about to get educated on what good television is.
Hmmm... One of the most anticipated TV titles this year is HBO's second season of its anthology series "True Detective". With a whole new cast of characters and storyline, many have been wondering if the new season will live up to the stellar quality of the first. The first three episodes have been delivered to various press outlets and the reaction so far is very divided. Here's some key excerpts from various published reviews so far: Variety: "Those expecting anything approaching the magic conjured by the original Matthew McConaughey-Woody Harrelson pairing should immediately temper their enthusiasm for True Detective's second season. Impeccably cast around its marquee stars, the new plot possesses the requisite noir-ish qualities, but feels like a by-the-numbers potboiler... once the ball gets rolling, though, the new 'Detective' feels increasingly mundane - in tone and style, a bit like a lesser Michael Mann movie stretched out in episodic form. Part of that might have to do with the necessity of serving the multiple leads, at the expense of the focus on two that the first enjoyed. Esquire: "Based on the three episodes HBO sent to critics, the second season of True Detective is nearly as addictive as the first. It poses as a potboiler, but it's really an exercise in genre fused with existentialism. This time, instead of 'The King in Yellow,' a copy of the 'Hagakure' sits on a coffee table. It's the kind of show in which gangsters say things like 'Never do anything out of hunger.' Not even eat. and crooked cops say things like 'We get the world we deserve.'" The Hollywood Reporter: "The first season of True Detective was a magical melding of writing, acting and directing (and music, and yes, even plot for the most part) that gave viewers something memorable, if not perfect. At least in the first three episodes of True Detective season two, that magic is missing. Maybe when the various strands of the complicated story come together, the payoff will be there... Or none of that could happen. And what we'll get is a sophomore slump. The pressure is now on for the remaining five episodes." GQ: "Which brings us to season two, and its bats--t premiere episode - dead bodies, Internet porn, drugs, drinking, corruption, beatings, brass knuckles, and charming bon mots like, "I'll butt-f--k your father on this lawn with your mother's headless corpse," all in the first hour - and which should chase away any lingering doubt about what 'True Detective' ever was, and clearly still is. It's still trash shined up like gold. The trash is a bit trashier this time, and the gold a bit less shiny, but the same theory still abides." More reviews will no doubt arrive in coming days.
Same shit was said at the beginning of last season. This show isn't a week to week drama where each episode has closure. The shit that happened in the first couple episodes last season had direct consequences on the last. For example, the whole scene talking about sheriff childress had no importance or relevance for 6 episodes I refuse to believe that someone that wrote something so awesome(might be the best 8 hours of TV I'd ever seen) will disappoint when he has no character or plotline obligations and has free reign to create whatever he needs and wants
But he does have time restraints. He got to work on S1 as long as he wanted before pitching it whereas now he is on a less than 1 year timeline to get it scripted so it can be cast, shot, edited, etc.
I also think the majority of viewers (not TMBs elite group of TV minds) took at least 3-4 episodes to grow into liking season 1. know two people that watched season 1 for the first time in the last month. the dude didn't start liking it until episode 4 (whenever they show reggie in the gas mask and underwear at the end), and the chick was unsure until episode 5. Both ended up loving the show by the end of it. fuck jumping to a conclusion based on 1/3 of the content
More thoughts from the first three episodes. I skimmed through it and didn't see any big spoilers or anything. http://uproxx.com/tv/2015/06/true-detective-season-2-review-so-is-this-thing-good-or-what/
Guessing this will still be very good, but like the one review said, it won't be as good as the first season.
Nic Pizzollatto the creator/writer/sole producer is from my hometown and went to my high school. He doesn't seem to care much for Lake Charles.
Don't know what the fuck is going on and it's all over the place but.... I'm in love with this latina bitch.
I usually have trouble following complicated plots and was hoping to come here for some clarity. Sad to see everyone is confused as I am. the only plot thread that caught my attention was Colin ferrel interrogating his kid and beating the shit out of the bully's father.
Isn't it supposed to be about the occult and the LA railway and feature strong women according to the writer last season?
i think its good, not as good of an episode as any of them last season though. i feel like they are spelling out the characters a little too much
That mannequin queen in his swinger pad and that bird mask look a lot like themes from last season. Gonna guess its about some cult that doesnt want the highway to open up Plotline looks as promising as last season imo, but the actors arent as good
It's not fair to compare this season to last, at least not on the whole. But I do think it's fair to compare premieres, and I don't think this one was as good. As others have said, plot was way too all over the place. I'll definitely keep watching and I thought it got better as the episode went along, but it didn't have the pull that the first episode did a year ago.
Having four main characters is going to mean we're a lot more spread out in term of development. Hope the plot makes it worth it.
I liked it. Watching it w the knowledge that season1 took a lot of focus made me look at every detail and rewind some conversations to hear again Latina girl in bed is clearly the one missing... Right?
I wonder which will get more play.. city managers sex cult thing or VVs syndicate. Also could involve rachel's hindu group? I enjoy shows that make you think. Handing us shit on a silver platter is for michael bay movies. And last season's finale was excellent fuck the haters
