He didn't give an impassioned speech about Edric Storm mere days before (nearly) pulling the trigger. Also,
no shit Edric Storm is not his only daughter. I'm just saying I don't see how book-Stannis is incapable of doing what show-Stannis did last night. it was a horrible, disgusting act, but this is a desperate and uncompromising man who believes he has a destiny to save the world. he believes he is Azor Ahai reborn - a hero who had to sacrifice his own wife to fulfill his destiny. he thinks he is doing his duty, no matter what the price.
I don't think he actually believes that. I think he simply believes he's the rightful king of Westeros, and Melisandre is an unpleasant (though not entirely unpleasant, heh) means to that end. I don't think he believes or gives two shits about the Lord of Light or Azor Ahai shit.
What if they did some bad horror movie shit where the kid is holding the dagger behind Jon, fade to black, roll credits?
Lol uncompromising. Well unless the editor takes out a few lines he either gonna be compromising or the stuff in your post isn't gonna happen. I don't even like stannis. I also dislike bad writing.
Yea I mean it is really horrible, but to me if it's part of the story then so be it. We had to read about an 8' monster raping Elia after smashing her infant son's head in and killing her younger daughter. There are so many more gruesome things in the books as well. My only issue with the Sansa scene(and not trying to say rape is worse than child burning) was that they ventured off from the books to do that ONLY for the shock factor. They didn't have to include it. Even then like you said, it is still fiction. We see rape/burning but in reality if you could zoom out 10 feet it's just a scene.
I think that is exactly what we get. Ollie putting a knife in his pocket, then knocking on the door to Jon's room, Jon saying "come in" menacing look from ollie, Credits that way there is the added troll of show fags feeling safe because they see that jon is filming for season 5 and then shock and awe when he gets got 5 minutes into the season premier
I think the best thing to come out of this, other than that it gets Stannis moving, is Davos. I assume he takes the role of the pink letter and jon will have to make the decision to help or not next episode. I assume we'll probably never see another Stannis/Davos conversation.
Totally random observation, but did anyone else notice that the rep from the Iron Bank (the guy talking to Mace) was Mycroft from Sherlock?
They have a lot of loose ends to tie up next week. Cerseis walk/robert strong reveal, whatever they are going to do in place of the battle of ice, Sansa and briennes story convergence, dany, aryas storyline, for the watch, and the disaster that is the dorne storyline Obviously, there will be lots of cliffhangers
I was extremely pissed about Shireen AKA Master Splinter's Daughter being sacrificed, but I have to admit that I'm pretty pumped to see what such a large Kings Blood donation to the Lord of Light buys us. A couple leaches on Gendry and three kings got got. What happens when you sacrifice an entire trueborn princess? Hoping for a dragon, to be honest.
Balon, Robb, Joffrey? I mean, I'm no Lord of Light Scholar, but the three people he named all died very soon after.
What is dead may never die. Spoiler Just kidding. I forgot about that... they basically just abandoned the Greyjoys.
The main thing that bothered me about Shireen was how it went down. The books had well established that Stannis' army was hopeless and down to eating people. There was no way out and Melisandre was already burning other people if I recall correctly. In the show they still had men, still had horses to eat, and didn't seem nearly as hopeless. It is believable that Stannis, in a hopeless situation facing almost certain death would maybe allow Shireen to be sacrificed. What isn't believable is that even then he would basically hand her over to be burned alive in front of his entire army. Also, Stannis is all about justice and so the concept of burning an innocent alive conflicts with who he is which is why the way it played out is silly. If anything it should have been Mel and Selyse conspiring
That comes down to a simple time constraint. They attempted to cover that with Davos' conversation with Stannis. ("I'm not an expert at military strategy, but if you won't go back, and you can't go forward...")
Hell in the books melisandre, selyse and shireen aren't even with stannis when his men are starving and stuck in the snow. Someone else tells him they need to burn random people and he says no. In the books it's pretty clear that stannis is going to turn his position into a strategic advantage when Ramsay and co attack (which may or may not work). Pretty much sums up the difference between show and book stannis right there.
The one redeeming feature of the show stannis storyline is Stephen dillane is a fantastic actor and did a great job this season, particularly in episode 9.
I get it though. In the books the boltons can fail. Things aren't all ok. In the show Ramsay has activated his gameshark and can only succeed in whatever he wants to do. Pretty intimidating stuff.
Shirtless Ramsay + a couple of dogs >>>> asha greyjoy and a group of iron born she hand picked as the most bad ass killers on the iron islands
Like Gendry/Edric Storm? Also, it's not like he just said "Yeah, whatever. Burn her, I'm a bit chilly anyway." You could tell he was torn up inside about it and didn't WANT to do it. It's what "had" to be done. That is Stannis in a nutshell.
I have no qualms with the burning of Shireen. Just stop with the bad dialogue. The dialogue with Euurio, Dany and Hizdahr was awful. Really tough to watch. I had a knot in my stomach
I don't think they go back to Dorne in the finale, think they show Balon Greyjoy dying though to set up for next season. Also I think Arya will be going blind, just not sure if she kills Meryn Trant before
Man if they don't give doran his vengeance...fire and blood speech I have absolutely no idea why they included dorne.
Stannis and Ramsey kill each other and Littlefinger swoops in to win the battle woohoo. Yes it's a strange world when your rooting for Littlefinger.
Do we think Jon gets got this week? I'm personally not seeing it. This show is too closely covered by too many people to ever get away with a cliffhanger like that.
It will happen. Doran might end up being one of the best characters in the show. Love the actor we just gotta be patient.
So glad I'm not the only one who has noticed the superhuman qualities they've given him. They took a fat lipped blob of a character and made him the best fighter/military strategist in all of Westeros.
I really hope they don't end with dany meeting up with the khalasar. Seems like half the seasons end with her though. I wonder if we'll get a Varys scene.
think they will wait until next season and develop Kevan's character a little more so people care when he gets got
You are kevan of house lannister, hand of the King. And you are my uncle. Two minutes later kevan takes a crossbow to the gut
somewhat forgot about that. Maybe that will be "punishment" for her revenge and being Arya when she should be no one? he has to get that speech. Just don't see it happening YET. agreed The guide says "Dany is surrounded by strangers." Sounds like the khalasar to me.
