so about the sons of the harpy. what the fuck was that? based on the clothes, it looks like freedmen and slavers are in the group. plus they were killing seemingly random people in the stands. 1) how the fuck do the freedmen and the slavers start working together? i mean shit, there's a lot of bad blood there. 2) how the fuck does anyone go along with the plan where your co-conspirators are probably gonna end up murking your friends and family? 3) is the show just gonna ignore the fact that the fighting pit is littered with corpses that can be unmasked and traced back to families and what not? also, no battle of mereen for the show?
i mean overall. it's looking to me like it'll get axed altogether. based on the pacing of show, it'd take all of what should be the penultimate season to set that up, which would leave them 1 season to cover what i assume is nearly all of dany's arcs from books 6 and 7.
one thing that drives me crazy about Jon/the Wall storyline, and it drove me crazy in the books as well, is Jon is repeatedly being cryptic about "the real enemy" or "what is out there" when talking about an alliance with the wildlings. why in the world doesn't he ever just stand up and say, "listen people, I've seen the white walkers. I've seen the army of the dead. I've seen dead wildlings converted into the army of the dead before my very eyes. if we don't let these wildlings through the gate, the white walkers will kill every one of them and they will be attacking the Wall with blue eyes before we know it." I know the people at the Wall are mostly low-born rapers and thieves who aren't complex thinkers, but it drives me insane how virtually no one at the Wall has any understanding of what Jon is trying to do, and Jon or even Sam, don't seem all that bothered to explain it to them. they need a White Walker training session to get everyone on the same page.
He has said that. I don't think there's any confusion among either the wildlings or the Watchmen about who Jon thinks they should be fighting against together. I think the reluctance stems from those who haven't seen the Walkers in person, and thus don't believe the threat is all that dire.
Twow spoiler Spoiler it looks like Ramsay, hoster frey and wyman manderlay are going to lead an attack on stannis' camp before stannis' attacks winterfell (obviously, manderlay will turn on the Freys). Stannis finds this out through a turncoat maester and discovers that the karstarks are going to turn on him. This battle is the battle of ice. It's still possible there is another attack on wintefell coming as well, if stannis wins.
I never got that either. All they had to do is simply say "we can have them fight with us against the dead, or we will be fighting against them when they are dead, that simple."
Speak for yourself, littlefingers been my man since '07 And i read on reddit that episode 9 was georges idea, so either hes sabotaging or thats a correct relresentation of his characters
Neither the book nor the show do a good job with this, but the counterpoint to Jon's strategy hinges entirely upon the strategic value of The Wall. By bringing the wildlings through the gates, they've opened themselves up to several strategic disadvantages if the wildlings decide to turn on them.
The most likely scenario. Mel and Selyse get desperate, oh hey, whaddya know: here's a kid I've never liked with a terrible disease who happens to have king's blood in her.
Maybe. I just feel like the show has already passed book stannis. He is just approaching the struggle of show stannis. The man has proven that his right to the crown is worth killing a brother so its just a few more steps to get to the daughter. Or DD was just wanting to push the envelope. Dont know if ive ever seen the burning of a child at the stake like that on tv
But they cant defend the wall with their numbers. We've seen that the walls magic doesnt stop the zombies so I assume theyll be climbing up that bitch like at hardhome.
I know. But the NW is thinking a Wight on the other side of the wall is better than a wildling on this side.
That's exactly my point, which is why I don't think the issue is that Jon is being too vague about "the real enemy" or whatever. Everyone in that part of the world knows by now exactly what he's talking about.
Seen this elsewhere: Book Stannis -Has not burned anyone who wasn't a criminal. -Burned Mance for deserting the NW -Liberated MC from the IronBorn -Rallied the Northern clans to his cause -Stopped bothering the Northerns about their gods -Refused to burn Asha, daughter of a king. [Uncompromising Hardass] Show Stannis -Burned people for refusing to worship red god -Burned Mance for refusing to bend the knee -Burned his daughter -Lost entire army due to 20 man team *Not fighting the Ironborn *Not got any Northerners [Evil religious freakazoid murderer]
Apparently the Woman who runs Westerns.org is BATSHIT FUCKING CRAZY and has been going off on twitter all day. Shit is fucking hilarious. Its comical she cowrote WOIAF with GRRM.
That's dumb. Stannis definitely burned his former Hand Alester Florent. Also Edric Storm was a child as well. This is coming from someone who really likes book Stannis.
I wouldn't she's pissed, spoiling and threatening to post more spoilers, I've already seen one pretty big spoiler
https://twitter.com/hippoiathanatoi/status/607849072913989632 What could she possibly spoil for a book reader?
I love when someone goes out in a blaze of glory like this. Apparently this has been going on for a while too. http://thestarkalypse.tumblr.com/post/38793074715/get-your-cunt-stained-fingers-off-my-mush-the
TWOW spoiler Spoiler basically that stannis survives the battle at winterfell to come back later to burn shireen at a later date. also some people speculated that shireen was going to be burned to revive jon. so by martin telling them its ok to burn shireen, now, some people are speculating that shireen isnt the one to be burned in the books for jons revival.
I would imagine the spoiler is that Shireen gets burned. Not necessarily that Stannis does it (although that could be the case)
Spoiler in the preview chapters the battle of winterfell hasn't happened yet, it's just very imminent
the treason was advising Stannis as Hand that he should give up his pursuit of the Iron Throne. they burned him alive in order have favorable winds for the trip North.
Spoiler But I took it as the battle of ice had happened, otherwise we know the pink letter is fake. Has there ever been a time where chapters were out of chronological order other than the schism parts of AFFC and ADWD?
He didn't just advise Stannis, he negotiated with the Lannisters without his approval Burning is an extreme punishment, but thats pretty bad for a Hand
Spoiler then why did it say he was preparing, if the battle had already taken place why would he mention defeating the boltons? or is the battle of ice different from the battle for winterfell?
I thought Ice was the sortie Ramsay leads and Winterfell would be the actual attack on Winterfell itself. Maybe I should go brush up on all that.
Spoiler you are right, TWOW theon sample chapter takes place before the battle of ice, and therefore before "for the watch" in ADWD. We don't yet know who wins the battle of ice, but I think its likely, based on the sample chapter, that Stannis will destroy most of Ramsay's forces but then fake his own death (leading ramsay to believe he is dead, and explaining the pink letter). Then Stannis will try to take winterfell and who knows what the hell will happen
Jon's going to get stabbed at the end of episode 10, and the credits will roll right afterwards. It's simply too tantalizing of a cut scene for the director to pass up on.
