I'm the opposite, the better players I play with the better I do. I think my way around the course more and focus more on my putts. If I'm playing with my worse group I just pull out the driver and try to hit wedge into every hole.
That sucks. I look back at some of those back tees on some of the courses I play and its crazy how far out I'd be playing my 2nd shots. No thank you! But if that's your regular group, it is what it is.
I am super excited for this US Open. I like the idea of a crazy course, as well as prime time golf. Go play during the day, come home and watch the leaders tee off. Here is a link to a flyover of all 18 holes. http://www.usopen.com/en_US/course/hole.html?n=1
Welp, golf trip booked. Whistling Straits on July 30th (course closes August 1st for the PGA) then staying at the Erin Hills lodge and playing two rounds there on the 31st. O/u set at 20 golf balls lost.
I honestly have no clue. I haven't even booked my tee time yet. Unless you stay at the American Club, you can't book a tee time unless it's 14 days before. I'll be a single that day and it will be in the afternoon, so I'm guessing it won't be a huge struggle to get on. I'll find out more 14 days before, I guess. They're two bucket list courses. And since I don't plan on going to Wisconsin literally any other time, I figured might as well.
Playing in a 4 man best ball tourney Saturday with my old man. First tournament type golf outing and i'm pretty stoked for it.
I get wanting to do something different with the US Open but I would have preferred they do it during a year when the PGA isn't at a place like Whistling Straits. Like Martin Kaymer said it will be like playing 3 British Opens in a row. There is just something nice about a classic parkland style course with 4 inch rough. I really hope they bite the financial bullet and go back to Merion sometime in the next 15 years, that was just an awesome environment.

Let's see how the course plays tomorrow before we make any rash judgements. In other news, this weather is the tits
Masters - Augusta US Open - Old school American classics Open Championship - The Rota* PGA Championship - Newer fantastic courses popping up Masters is easy. For the US Open, I'm not saying to keep a rota. But definitely keep a theme in mind. There are the American classics (Pebble, Oakmont, Shinnecock, Country Club, Merion, Olympic Club, Winged Foot, Baltusrol, etc) that should be in a normal rotation, plus some other old school courses they should desperately try to bring back (Cypress Point, Pine Valley, Seminole, etc). Then some others to fill the gap (Bethpage Black, Medinah, Oak Hill, etc). Keep it to the classic, old school courses that American golf lore was founded on. For the Open Championship, expand the rota to include Portrush and Royal County Down. Maybe Ballybunion. The current rota is stale and doesn't even account for the best links in the British Isles. The PGA can take the rest of the awesome, newer age courses. The Whistling Straits, Bandon, Chambers Bay, Streamsong (though heat could be an issue), or even Cabot Cliffs if it's as good as advertised. The big issue is the US Open and PGA using the same courses over and over again. Plus the PGA has no identity right now. Giving it a course motif will help showcase the tournament and brand new phenomenal course designs popping up.
Can't believe the USGA let that go from its rotation. Sure, they have a handful of courses in the NY area already but that course is just amazing. Usually the PGA seems to get the USGA's sloppy seconds but in this case they scored big time. It should make for an amazing Ryder Cup in 2024 too, matchplay at Bethpage gives me a chub. Looking forward to going to Baltusrol next year as well which is also a former US Open site. I don't care if its the least prestigious of the 4 majors, if they keep coming to my area I am going to attend. Going to Quail Hollow is a major fail for them though, using regular tour stops for majors is not something I am a fan of (Pebble Beach being the exception).
So apparently 17 has a train that goes by it 45 times a day. Like 100 yards from the green. That will be interesting.
didnt Baltusrol do something to f up getting US Opens and is not down to PGA status? I really like the idea of the USGA selecting public courses when it can. And think there should be an emphasis on spreading out geographically.
Teams I'm playing in the local pool...1st place gets about a grand... Rules are: Pick 5 golfers, 3 must make the cut. If any of your players withdraw from the tournament at ANY TIME, you are just short that player. If you do not have 3 that make the cut, your whole team is disqualified. Use your top 3 golfers’ scores. You must have THREE scores to use at the end of the tournament. If one of your players gets disqualified or withdraws after the cut, leaving you with fewer than three players, your team is disqualified. The person with the lowest total at the end of the tournament wins. If there is a tie on the tiebreaker, we will go to the 4th golfer on each team. If there is still a tie, we will go to the 5th golfer. If this does not settle the tie, the winners will split the pot. Missing the cut is missing the cut, regardless of the player’s score when he missed the cut.
Pine valley/Seminole won't ever host a big spectator tournament. If you ever get out there, they just don't have the room, but the biggest thing is the members just don't care about hosting tournaments. Those guys only care about themselves being able to play when they want, they're against anything that disrupts that.
Honestly, I know that's going to be the answer every time. But they should still ask every single year.
I didn't expect him to do much..We'll see if it holds up, he's a notoriously bad putter later in the weekend.
Cleveland hybrid I ordered from Global Golf came in. Aside from a chip on the top, the damn thing looks brand new. Took it out to the range today and stripped a few. Definitely a good transaction.
