Do it if you can. It almost looks like a Timber Rattlesnake but I assume there was no rattle. I'm thinking probably one of those non-venomous hog-nosed snakes. See if you can pull it's nose up and see what the fangs are like too
You'd know it was fast if it was a runner- unless he was taking his sweet ass time to show you whose boss. If it was a runner going fast, I don't know if they can go slow?, you'd know it right away, it's true SEC speed
lyrprophet You absolutely did the right thing. That snake looks like a nasty asshole. Even if it's not poisonous, you don't to risk it with one of god's creatures (dog) in your house
Looks poisonous from here. I agree with the Timber rattlesnake diagnosis. Doing God's work by dispatching such a filthy creature.
re topic post my uncle had a gigantic black snake that chilled near his chicken coop. clearly it was a threat to the eggs but by and large wasn't a problem. one day he was trying to remove it from the coop (persistent asshole) and accidentally banged it against the frame of the coop. well, since he was carrying it with a shovel, that bang cut it in half and killed it. two days later, he was picking some beans and a fat fucking copperhead asshole was underneath the shrub. turns out, giant fucking non poisonous snakes also eat shitty asshole poisonous snakes-- and their babies moral: don't kill non-venomous snakes animal control venomous ones; decapitate if necessary
+1 Out here in neb the common bullsnake, while a very cunty and pissed off snake most of the time is well known to eat rattlesnakes and therefore I try to encourage their existence when I can
That fucker is big enough and looks enough like a copper head/moccasin to be killed off. How big actually was it and what did you kill it with? Nice slice on it... Also where are you specifically in Bama? Close to water?
It was about 3 feet long if I had to guess. Not nearly as long as the black one I killed last week. I used a new garden hoe to kill it. I was surprised with its effectiveness. I'm up near Chelsea on HWY 280. But I live in a neighborhood that's backed up against a lot of woods and creeks, rivers, etc basically surround us.
Yea actually. Go up Double Oak Mountain and the second light is my neighborhood. Almost to Chelsea but not quite.
The first pic you posted in the second set of photos makes it pretty obvious that it's venomous. Gotta look at those eyes....which is obviously a lot easier to do when the monstrosity is dead.
my stupid ass cats have brought up several baby moccasins from a creek that runs at the edge of my property and left them on my front porch would have fucked that snake up too lyrprophet
And you definitely want to get rid of that thing. If your dog or some other dog (or heaven forbid a kid) goes up and fucks with its mouth they could still get pricked and envenomated.
I did good things tonight I guess haha. It says it hunts frogs and stuff and we have a shit load of frogs in the front yard. So that's probably what had its attention.
Here's a story from someone who got bit.... http://www.herpnation.com/hn-blog/d...-rattlesnake/?simple_nav_category=daniel-duff
We call them canebreak rattlers down here, but yes, the (dead) species in question is Crotalus horridus. The picture you posted is C. viridus, prairie rattlesnake.
Is this true across the board? All venomous snaked have the slit pupil? Would be good info since I live in FL.
Yes, at least in the US. TOP 3 MOST COMMON TRAITS OF VENOMOUS SNAKES: 1) It is big and fat (all in the USA, except that red-black-yellow coral, are fat pit vipers) 2) It is a rattlesnake, with real rattles on the end of its tail 3) It has elliptical pupils (but I doubt you're close enough to look)
