Not a huge fan of the cfl but football after the nhl is done is pretty much a bonus. Plus i went only once to see the als and it was a great Time, loved it in person. These players are very good pros
there is nothing on and the NHL seems to not want teams to break trades tonight im watching this and copa america
CFL is like the Expos for me. Not that big of a fan, but the tickets are pretty cheap and it's always a great time.
festival d'été de quebec, obviously not montreal but if you swing by quebec city it is the time to do it.

I'll be in Montreal in 3 weeks. 8/6 through 9th. What are some good restaurants or bars (not clubs) to check out for someone in his early 30s? I'll eat anything for food but love a good gastropub where I can pair an upscale cocktail with my meal.
Just got back from my bachelor party in Montreal over the weekend. Went to chez paree Saturday, not sure what the obsession with getting guys naked on stage was about..
cant get that to link, its in their photo section https://twitter.com/osheaga/status/621394514616406017
where to eat, party, smoke, etc. Obviously want to be flexible around the concert schedule. And any must see spots, historical/tourist or the like.
Montreal isn't too big on cocktail and food pairings. The cocktails are great, the wine is great, the food is great, but cocktails and food aren't really served for each other. BUT, I'm sure you'd like the Dominion Square Tavern. High end pub with very good, legit food, great cocktails, great wine list. Love that place. Haven't been there, but I've heard good things about Pandore. Their cocktails are apparently very good, they serve food, and they'd be my guess if you want a cocktail and food pairing experience. Oh...maybe Ludger? Gastropub/buvette in Saint-Henri. Food is good, the cocktails are great also, and if Jason's there that night, I'm sure he'd be down to prepare you some kind of pairing. Worked with him at Boulud and he's tight. Cool neighborhood bar.
So pretty close to Osheaga. The Ste-Elisabeth has one of the nicest terrasses in town, bear is pretty cheap, staff is cool. Love that place. If you're looking for microbrews, L'Amere a Boire and le Saint-Bock are great. Both of have bunches of great microbrewery beers on tap, and are packed. Club Date in the Village is always fun if you want karaoke, it's one of my go-to places. If you want to smoke, 2 of Montreal's shisha bars are on St-Denis (Hookah and Gitana)...can't go wrong with either. As for weed, it's still illegal, so you'll have to find someone to hook you up (or just text me when you're in town), though it's widely accepted. You can walk around in the streets smoking weed without ever getting in trouble. For cigar, it's Whisky Cafe. Same team that owns Dominion Square Tavern downtown. Cool spot. As for restaurants, that neighborhood is pretty much a dead end, as it's full of junk food stuff for the students. Not too far off, there's Bouillon Bilk (stunning food), L'Express (Montreal institution...been open for 30+ years. If you want to feel like you're in Paris, that's the place) or Pied De Cochon (Montreal institution...lots of foie gras, pork, bacon, but their seafood program is also top notch). Kitchen also closes late (12AM), so you can go after Osheaga. Oh and Chien Fumant. Small place, plays mostly hip-hop, but kitchen closes at 2AM, their food is legit, their homemade charcuterie platter is as good as you'll find in Montreal. Past midnight, it's full of restaurant employees, everyone goes there. Cool vibe. Where I work is also not too far off, just don't want to post where I work on the board, but you can't go wrong with any of those restaurants. Oh and Rouge Gorge...wine bar on Mont-Royal that serves food late, has a great, organic/nature wine list and is close to plenty of other bars. Worth checking out. You can also venture up St-Laurent towards the Mile-End and grab some pizza (Magpie, Bottega, No 900) or try out Sparrow (becomes a bar later), Mais, Lawrence, Hotel Herman or maybe even Impasto (for italian) for some really legit, not too expensive food with a cool vibe. Plenty of good bars around too...Waverly, Vices Versa, Dieu du Ciel or Big in Japan (got to try that place. As cool a bar as you'll find in MOntreal IMO. Place is behind a red door with absolutely no sign. You can sometimes come in, sometimes you have to knock, but the place is great. Good drinks, nice japanese whisky selections, etc.), and they're right by Patati Patata which serves great, small, cheap portions of poutine before you head back to the hotel. Patati staff is awesome too. Or if you want, you can venture towards the Sud-Ouest...Burgundy Lion has one of the best scotch selection in town. You've got Joe Beef, Vin Papillon and Liverpool House nearby. Ludger (mentioned earlier) also has a great vibe, good music, good food and the kitchen closes late. Really like that place. Grumman78 is right around also and serves some of the best tacos in town. Their desserts are ridiculous. H4C is right around also, great place (but very expensive). For asian food, you can't go wrong with a Dim Sum for lunch/brunch at Maison Kam Fung, or try out Mon Nan for chinese food and Qing Hua for the best dumplings in town. Get them steamed. It's right by the Latin Quartier. For sushi, it's Tri Express, or Park for lunch (dinner's great too, but the bill went up to 600$ for 2 last time I went). No idea if you'll be going for all 3 days, but on Sunday, there's also the Piknic Electronik. Right by the St-Lawrence river, close to where Osheaga will be, just a fun place to spend your Sundays. They normally always have legit DJs too. Foufounes Electriques is also a cool place if you want more of a grungy/punk vibe. Used to be my 2nd home. Or just head towards Mont-Royal and go from there, nice bars everywhere. As for tourist stuff, the Oratoire Saint-Joseph is worth a try. Brother André (who worked there for years) just became a saint, apparently miracles have been done, and it's now a very visited religious site. Place is gorgeous too, on top of a hill. Notre-Dame basilica is also gorgeous. Parc La Fontaine is our homeless man's Central park, where people go chill, drink beers and smoke weed by the "lake". You might want to walk around the Canal Lachine and have a beer at Terrasse St-Ambroise (one of the Quebec's first microbreweries). Climb up Mount Royal and have a nice view of the city, you can go surfing nearby the Canal. Jean-Talon market is also Canada's biggest outdoor farmers' market, with plenty of small local shops around. The neighborhood is nothing too fancy though, so in that sense, you might want to stop by the Atwater market, grab at bite at Satay Brothers' food truck, walk by the Canal, have a beer at St-Ambroise, and perhaps end the night at Ludger or Burgundy Lion. You'll see, Montreal is not Paris in the sense that it doesn't have a lot of touristic stuff to do, it's more a place that you walk around. Every neighborhood has a different personality, different atmosphere. You'll normally eat well, drink well and party. Hopefully that covered some stuff, feel free to tag or PM for more info.
Champ great advice. So as far as walking around the neighborhoods, that was basically our plan for all day on Friday and Saturday. We have literally no plans but to just walk around the city starting downtown as we are staying at Hotel Bonaventure. I'm sure a lot of this was answered in the lost thread but much appreciated. Any other suggestions for downtown, Old Montreal or anywhere else you thinking seeing/doing would be great.
Did you read the long post quoting Fran? Covers a lot of stuff. If you're into that in the Old Port, L'Atelier d'Argentine offers an All You Can Drink brunch for pretty cheap and is legit, Velvet is an upscale speakeasy club in a cavern, L'Autre Version has a great terrasse for both lunch and dinner. Olive & Gourmando is the place to visit for a quick bite in the Old Port if you're just walking around. Pho Bang New York serves great pho not too far off from the Old Port, too. As for downtown...don't go to Europea, Boulud's food is pricy but as good as you'll find, their wine markup though borders on criminal (worked there for a few years), Ferreira is very good, just a bit douchy, maybe. Dominion Square is great. There are a bunch of irish pubs if that's what you're into. Furco is awesome also, kitchen closes late, dj, great ambiance and food and wines are both good. Can get noisy though. Kazu for asian food is a great imadake. Great food, cheap and fun place. There's a Qing Hua downtown as well, too I believe.
This time next week I'll be leaving Ottawa for Montreal for Osheaga So excited. Let's get a PM thread going today for everyone going
Aziz Ansari @azizansari 2m2 minutes ago MONTREAL: I'm in town to work on new jokes. Come tonight at 930 at Maison Theatre. Tickets avail at the door NOW. $20 flat. Go.
Alright, who's all in for Osheaga? Picked up 60 oz of Crown Royal and tons of beer. Ready to rock. I'm staying in old Montreal with my girl, my roommate and his GF but we know people everywhere. There will be after parties
I do Bonnaroo every year and I get maybe 15 hours of sleep in 4 days. This will be a cake walk in comparison
I had never been to Montreal before around a year ago. I was tapped as Best Man in a wedding, and, to my surprise, when I searched "Best Bachelor Party Cities in North America," Montreal was #2 behind Vegas. We didn't want to do Vegas, so it was Montreal. Some impressions: Positives 1. This is #1 with a bullet. Montreal women are ridiculously hot. We spent pretty much every night on the street that is closed to traffic (can't remember the name), but there are solid 8-10 level women everywhere. 2. Drink prices are high in strip clubs, but anything goes when you buy a private dance. Well worth the trade off. 3. Food game is outstanding. My family owns a 400 acre cattle farm, but some of the best meat I've ever had was at a Supper Club in Montreal. 4. Speaking of Supper Clubs, going for dinner and staying is cheaper all around for dinner and drinks than dinner and bottle service in Vegas, for sure. 5. During the daytime, the city has a lot of character. We found a lot of fun things to do before sunset. Negatives 1. Hipsters. Hipsters everywhere.
Im flying up tomorrow afternoon, staying until Monday. Trying to go to Run the Jewels tomorrow night but its sold out. Can you scalp in Canada/Quebec? Looking forward to this .78 exchange rate.
Yeah it's definitely worth a shot. Check Kijiji. I'm coming in super late Thursday night and leaving Monday morning. Staying at a friends place near Atwater station. FYI get a metro pass. There's one for it and goes on sale either Thursday or Friday. Unlimited metro for like 16 bucks
Those two are right downtown and side by each. Schwartz is up St Laurent. It's very good as well. Guess it depends where you are located.
def want to check out Atwater Market and Burgundy Lion Pub when I get there. Seems like there are tons of bars in that area.
Yeah get that. I'll be staying in that area. Closer to the Lionel-Groulx stop than the Atwater stop but it's only a 10 minute walk or so.
