Truck owners thread

Discussion in 'The Mainboard' started by Phil Weston, Sep 14, 2015.

  1. Phil Weston

Phil Weston average to below average poster.

I know we used to have a truck owners thread, and I've searched through my watched threads and it isn't there so I think it was lost in the crash.

Figured I'd start a new one up. Think about buying a new Ford F-150 and I know there used to be a poster who worked for Ford and had a code to give out for a sweet. Anyone know if he is still around or did we lose him in the crash as well.

    TIA, likes will be given

Just looked at my Silverado. The cab has a laptop and some clothes in it. The back seat is full of cowboy toys. The bed has blood and dove feathers along with 2 dozen spent 12ga shells, and some ZOOm Super Hogs that I thought were lost.
What would I do without a truck?

i always say go with Toyota if you want reliability, and Ford or Chevy half-ton or 3/4 ton if you NEED to tow very stuff on a regular basis.

Dodge and Nissan, I would only own if under warranty.

Nah... Depends on the year with the Dodge. I would avoid the 07-09 like the plague, but my 04.5 with the HO common rail motor and no emissions equipment is a tank. The 10 and up Cummins Ram with the AISN transmission is a good truck. The emissions stuff is a pain in the ass but it's a pain in the ass with them all.

I've got an Edge Juice with Attitude programmer/fuel-in box and have been running 50psi of boost on the stock turbos since it was new without a single hiccup. But, I'm also not a retard. I have a built transmission with a trans temp gauge and I have a pyrometer to keep an eye on EGT's. The common rail 5.9 motor is just bulletproof, and they make much bigger power than the Duramax or Powerstroke. You'll have more transmission maintenance to deal with on the Dodge, but at least you aren't pulling the cab off every few years to put another set of HG on.

It's also somewhat dumb to say you don't need a 3/4 ton unless you tow on a regular basis. Buy the vehicle that meets all your needs. If you tow heavy or even think you might be towing heavy, do yourself a favor and get a proper vehicle for the job.

It's integrated through OnStar. The service, unfortunately for me, comes through AT&T 4G LTE. It's unfortunate because that's what my cell phone service is through. Would've been even better if it was VZW or something so I had different service ranges.

Unlike cell phone plans, you only pay for the data you use, it doesn't expire monthly. You pay per gig.

The live weather map is really great if you drive a lot. Put your destination into GPS and hit weather and it will show you the weather throughout your drive (map included).

Of course the truck also comes with: trailer brakes, heated steering wheel, sliding back-glass, sun roof, all bose speakers, a front & rear camera, lane switch assist, smart gears that change based on going up or down hill...

'14 GMC 2500HD 4D 8' box Duramax SLT. Damn thing came with 20" aluminum rims. So now I'm stuck with premium tires. $220 or so each.

Also, cheap fuckers put a steel 18" rim/tire combo for the spare...

Anyways, looking to upgrade the rims, bumpers, and lights (HID), anybody got some good suggestions? Thanks.

Really wonder about the incoming light-duty diesels. Turbo'd 3L mill. Even a 5L... Could be potent.

Also as far as stuff. Black out rims and plate bumpers. Been looking at www.ironcrossautomotive.com and www.goboondocks.com, but don't really care for the pre-runner look.

I have an F-350 dually diesel with a gooseneck hitch for pulling very heavy objects and large beasts. It can pull them quite easily. It doesn't make for a good everyday vehicle, so I don't use it as such. Hope this helps.

Thing sold new for $50,000 2 years prior.
Previous owner already put a $1600 bed cover and spray in liner.
He traded it in for a Mini Cooper. I think that's why I got such a deal on it because it was at a Mini/BMW lot. IMG_20140722_201809_171.jpg

Sometimes they remind me of a bias ply. Like if it's parked for a while they get flat spots and ride rough for a few miles until they warm up.

I got misquoted when I was tire shopping and the price was so low I had to go with them. The tire guys tried to correct the price after the mounted two on my wheels and I said take the off because that isn't what I was quoted and not what I was going to pay. Of course since they were already mounted they couldn't resell them so the gave me the original price I was quoted.
