Should be a quick easy read this month. Hopefully we get lots of participation. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22544764-uprooted?ref=ru_lihp_up_rs_15_mclk-up2613125067
Knocked out the first 4 chapters after work tonight. This is a quick, fun read so far. Spoiler -Thought it would be cool if she would have drawn out a bit longer that the Dragon is a person/wizard and not an actual dragon. Would have been a cool reveal imo. - I like the dialog and how much she annoys him. Pretty funny. - other than that , I dont have much else. Arkie Proud pin this thread pretty fucking please w sugar on top.
I have it in epub format. Let me know if you need it still. I'll get started on this next week after finishing up my current book.
Through Chapter 24 Spoiler Outside of ASOIAF, fantasy isnt really my thing, but Im liking this book. A little magic, war, people banging w 100 years age difference... Good stuff.
Through 20% - wow, it got better? Action? Magic? Spoiler as the dragon comes back to save her and Kasia and rips open the shed to kill the wolves, I was just giggling inside for some reason I was thinking about that wrestling announcers "GOOD GAWD, THATS THE DRAGON's MUSIC!!"
Spoiler: through chapter 11 or 37% I have the weirdest magic boner. Seriously though that was one of the more awkward book sex scenes I've ever read.
Spoiler Yeah, I cant tell how much time has passed since she was uprooted, but that's like a 90 year age difference in sex partners. Woahhhhh
I'll DL it now... Almost done with all 48 hours of The Stand. Edit: Mayyyybe not, the audbile reviews of the narrator or horrible. Everyone likes the book, but hates the reader... I've heard many Eastern European accents, so maybe the accent won't bother me, but I'm going to look for a sample.
Ive tried to dabble in the audio version for this book to listen while in transit. The narrator does have an eastern euro accent, but it wasnt bothersome to me. It's not very thick or like it takes a while to get use to before understanding what she is saying. I actually think it adds to the book a lot, because it's in first person and you feel like the main character is actually narrating . (Im sure it's like that for all first person audio books). However my ADD is too strong and I always drift off while listening and miss too much. It sucks because Id get through books a lot faster :/ That was a long terrible story just to say the accent isnt that bad/thick. Good talk truman.
Is there any reason not to? Is audible a monthly sub, or do you pay per book? FWIW I found the audio version on IPT
Not sure if this is common knowledge, but they are DLed as music files. You can change the to audiobooks in iTunes under "Get info". That way they show up in your iBooks app and you can keep your place when turning on and off and between devices if you sync w iCloud
No spoilers. Through chapter 20, 65%. Very good book. Slowed the last couple of chapters, going from a solid A- to a B, but still a very solid book, and obviously building to something awesome.
Finished. Enjoyed it. Thought it slowed down a bit in the last third. Glad I read it. Good suggestion The Blackfish. Would have never read this otherwise. Spoiler It was a nice little happily ever after ending. My favorite parts of the books were Neishka would annoy the Dragon and he get so flustered over it. The sex scenes were really odd, but oh wells.
I only use it to DL books from that I can't find on it. Like BF said - if you just DL and stop seeding as soon as it's over - you're good. Let me see if I can upload my audio version to Dropbox and you can dl from there if you want.
Done. Good book, but not great. First half better than second half. 7/10. Would recommend to fantasy readers. Spoiler I got a little tired of this Wood character magically going from inert passively destructive vague idea to this super-unstoppable invasive manipulating force infecting every single person and entire armies doing its bidding. I mean, I understand what she was trying to do but it wasn't well executed IMO. I thought it was unbelievable because earlier in the book she may it seem like even Podunk farm hands could spot infected/corrupted people. Idk. Also, one of the reasons I don't get into female authors as much as male ones is the internal "romantic" monologues about feelings for other characters really never connects well with me. This was my biggest issue with the Divergent books, and while it was a small, small part of this book, it happened to be at a time where the plot seemed to move slowly, enhancing my boredom with the scene. Still all in all enjoyable and good selection for the month.
I'm about 15% in and I don't know yet whether to be intrigued or pissed off that I am reading some half assed cross between Cinderella and the Hunger Games.
6% in. Don't know what to think yet. The eastern european woman reading the book sounds like she just recently learned english. It doesn't bother me too much though.
50% through. I'm liking it. Spoiler . The big battle in the Wood just happened. Not sure what else is left in this story aside from one final big attack by the Wood. I'm guessing Nieshka becomes this ultimate master wizard who defeats the Wood basically all by herself. In the meantime she might as well fuck the Dragon and get but over with.
Ok. I'm 75% and really liking this. No spoilers necessary I guess. I don't think the story has slowed. It is just progressing toward what I hope is a worthy ending. Spoiler the wood clearly has other ways to infiltrate their society than corruption. It has found other methods to control the queen IMO. And I think it is trying to start a war to weaken the kingdoms so it can take over everything. Nieshka is still a virgin as far as I can tell (having the Dragon diddle her clit one time doesn't count as banging...unless I missed the actual sex somehow during that odd scenario). I do look forward to seeing just how far she develops as a witch by the end.
Finished. Spoiler I liked this book far more than I expected. I enjoyed it immensely up until the very end. To me the ending kind of sucked. I think it tried to get too deep or sentimental with the heart trees and their "souls" or whatever they were. The last part of the book lost me. But all and all it was a solid read. I'll give it about a 4 out of 5.
20% Spoiler Fight scene with the wolves was good. Dragon seems like a badass but he is kind of a dick. Fun story so far. Not really sure where its going to go. Hopefully something to do with the queen who has been trapped in the woods for 20 years.
First half of the book was amazing, second half fell off. Welp just realized I posted the same thing like 10 posts up.
