Although many point at Ziggy as the conflicted young stevedore facing an identity crisis, the label serves Nick better. Nick, who had already forsaken his father's trade for that of his uncle, had once again found in Vondas a more powerful father figure. Nick was always more concerned with status and perception than his peers. Hiding his baby-momma, looking at condos in the yuppy quarter show his insistence on rising above his station. Nearing the end of the season, Nick will "go against the family" by siding with Vondas on issues concerning both Ziggy and Frank. Nick had already shifted his loyalties and did not see his traitorous actions for what they were. With The Greeks going beyond the pale in the murder of Frank following the shock of Ziggy's shooting spree, Nick resets and is left with a hollow biological father, a dead uncle, and an absentee Vondas. Where Ziggy always stayed true to his flawed self and flamboyant lifestyle, Nick showed a pattern of abandoning morals and shifting the goal posts whenever presented with a stronger alpha male. Two years later we see a broken Nick, devoid of any strong male influence, heckling Carcetti.
yea. in the union office he wants to go kill them but horseface and ott stop him. the fire obviously leaves him because vondas etc. go back to the same cafe eventually. i guess he just doesnt care. rewatches are helpful in building the character up a lot better
Nicky is in the crowd at the press conference when Carcetti announces the water front condos. So, even though Vondas and "the Greek" are back running dope, he must not have stuck with witness protection. Johnny "50" also ends up living under the bridge/highway when they show the homeless in Season 5.
Just finished season 4 and that finale, for that season is just amazing. One of the best seasons of television I've ever seen.
whole series on blu ray for $60 http://www.amazon.com/Wire-Complete...&refinements=p_n_format_browse-bin:2650305011
Carver and Randy the snitch kid after the fire.. Bunny/wee bey/namond... Lester getting the vacants popped open.. Bodie.. fckn Bodie mann.. Mcnulty returns because of Bodie... Chris and snoop and Michael.. Omar and the big lick from the co-op.. A lot more too. The last six minutes when no one says a word is just captivating.
Just finished Season 2 (haven't read the thread based on the warning in the title). That said, is it safe to assume that Ziggy Sobotka is the worst / most annoying character in the entire series? No need to name names if there are worse, a simple Yes he is, or no he isn't will suffice.
My sweet summer child What if I told you you're about to spend an entire season in a Baltimore junior high?
Depends on what you consider worst/annoying. Yes if his flamboyant behavior bothers you. No if you're more agitated by characters who are bad with more of a cascading impact on the show.. someone in season four drives me absolute bat shit
so my gf is watching for the first time, and I am re-watching again with her. we just finished season 2 and I liked it more than I ever have before this time. I hated ziggy a little less (still my least favorite character albeit necessary), although I don't think there is a whole lot of depth to his character beyond what is made blatantly obvious.
we on same timeline, finished season 3 about 2 weeks ago, havent yet started season 4 since we've been traveling and what not. season 3 wasnt as good this time around. very excite for season 4
I'm not spoilering non spoilers in a thread that is as old as the board, but yes, Herc is absolutely the worst character on the show. The actor that plays Herc is the worst part of anything he has ever been involved with.
Im not so much bothered by the actor as much as im bothered by the character. His bumbling with the camera in season four, and the effects that were brought on were maddening. Just a selfish, bumbling buffoon amongst a crew of sharp, thoughtful characters. Ziggy was annoying because he was Ziggy but even when he pulls his ultimate dumb shit move, its nowhere in the realm as effectual as the shit that Herc causes.
I hated season 2 my first watch because I was all in on the setting of season 1. Season 2 gets better each and every rewatch.
Lol. You need to watch Entourage and anything else he has been in... He is typecast as that stupid fuckup in everything. He's an awful ass hole of an actor
I've been trying to get the girlfriend to watch this ever since she finished Breaking Bad, mostly because I want to do a rewatch. All the activity in this thread lately is going to make me try and push it on her even more
I agree 100% and I wouldn't want Herc not to be a part of the show. But with a show that feels as real as the wire, the characters that bother me the most are the ones that I am supposed to hate. Disliking a Character like Ziggy over a Character like Herc seems petty. Ziggy is annoying no doubt, but, I never wanted him to get his shit together as much as I wanted Herc to.
There was a small Kick Starter for Clay Davis bobble heads. Wife got me one. Plays three different Clay Davis audio version of "Sheeeeeeeee-it".
People hating on Herc is a little stupid to me. He plays the stereotypical dumb meat head cop. They are all over every police department in america. Why would that one department not have one? Ziggy is fucking terrible. On my first rewatch I fast forwarded through his scenes and the season was infinitely better. I mean the guy brought a fucking duck into a bar and drank with it.
