I have enjoyed the ufo stuff. It fits in with the time where a lot of people supposedly saw them. I don't think they will have some huge payoff but I am fine with that.
From my understanding this is an anthology like True Detective. Do I need to watch Season 1 before watching Season 2?
I guess I was just hoping the UFO thing was just some sort of red herring. I just don't understand why. It was going so perfect without it. The season hasn't been ruined by it, by any means. It's the whole, "I'm not mad, I'm just dissapointed" thing.
Fucking Captain Cheney. Every time I see that guy all I can think is " Is you is or is you ain't my constituency"?, "Dees boys is masenegnated" Best show on TV right now, one of my top 5 all time.
I liked this from the AV Club on the UFO Which is why the UFO is entirely fitting. It’s the nonsense given a physical presence, like some cold, unknowable god observing us from afar. There’s certainly stuff to unpack symbolically, but what struck me most powerfully in the moment is how inevitable it felt, how of a piece with everything that came before. The ship has no impact on events, beyond distracting Bear long enough to save Lou’s life. It offers no information, no explanation for itself or anything around it; it spares no one, and gives nothing but light, confusion, and mystery. It is, in short, just another part of the whole damn mess, and while it’s possible aliens could show up in the season finale and muck all this up, as of right now, I think Hawley has earned the device.
No. But watch season 1. And the correct wording is true d is an anthology like this. This is the far superior show, season 1 included.
Brothers! Oh, brothers! We have all gathered here, to preserve our hallowed culture and heritage! We aim to pull evil up by the root, before it chokes out the flower of our culture and heritage! And our women, let's not forget those ladies, y'all. Looking to us for protection! From darkies, from Jews, from papists, and from all those smart-ass folks say we come descended from monkeys!
I'm struggling with it, but perhaps we should just take a cue from Peggy in the episode, "It's just a flying saucer, hun. We gotta go".
Just watched Sunday's episode last night. Fuck me, this show is awesome. I liked the whole UFO thing.
Yeah I didn't mind the UFO sequence....reminded me of Season One's fish scene....probably more symbolism than anything.
Agreed. Once you get past the hype and crazy theories that season 1 had, you realize Fargo season 1 was better top to bottom.
I always forget we have a TV board. Anyway, Fargo is by far the best thing on TV right now, and I feel sorry for the idiotic souls that haven't heard of it.
The UFO thing is a bit out of place, but it in no way diminishes what has been the best season of television since Breaking Bad season 5.
Got season 1 on flash drive. Going to binge through it this weekend. I'm even going to do a full rewatch before this season finale because it's been that good.
I don't think it's that out of place because it is a Chekhov's gun. There's still another episode to help us wrap our collective heads around it but I see the UFO as more of a device lending itself to the legend of the Sioux Falls ordeal. I, at least, get that impression because of the way they framed the entire episode. The events that took place that night are supposed to be the things of folklore and the UFO only heightens that legend while simultaneously diminishing its plausibility to those hearing the story. I'm sure some people view it as deus ex machina but it didn't really have any bearing on the situation (other than Bear being distracted long enough for Lou to grab the gun). It's certainly more interesting than Hanzee/Hank firing a shot into Bear's shoulder so that his grip loosens around Lou's neck.
I think the sentiment is Fargo ahead of TD because we're taking both seasons into account. Shit, Noah Hawley literally has flying saucers coming out of the sky and Fargo S2 still shits all over True Detective S2. Comparing the second seasons of the shows is like comparing filet mignon with Taco Bell.
If we're taking both seasons into account it's not even fucking close; TD S2 was a total abortion. I think as individual seasons TD S1 is just ever so slightly ahead of Fargo S2 for me but the finale could certainly change that. Regardless, both seasons are some of the best television ever.
It'll be close for sure. I don't think anyone is going to argue Fargo S2 versus TD S1 just because they're both amazing television. But I think laxjoe 's original comment was intended to show Voodoo that Fargo as a whole is so much better than TD as a whole that Fargo should be mentioned first when discussing anthology series.
I didn't like the UFO cameo. May as well show a little green dude behind the wheel. It took away from one of the coolest scenes I have seen on TV in a long while. It can probably be explained away because the episode was a story within a story narrated by the real voice of Lester Nygard, and that version of the story likely mentioned it cause sightings were popular in the 70's. Seemed forced to me though. However, I assume they will tie the UFO sighting up next week and it will make perfect sense. When that occurs feel free to quote this post and call me out Hanzee is cold blooded. Peg is probably my favorite character. Love when her and Fatt Damon get face time.
I'll allow it just because of how incredible both seasons have been but the show would be better without the UFO nonsense, IMO.
Wilson and Dunst nominated for best actor/actress in miniseries Golden Globes. Show nominated for best miniseries. No Woodbine in the supporting actor category upsets me.
Episode by episode soundtrack listing for season 2. http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2015/12/tweedy_spoons_b.html
I loved the cover of Just Dropped In. Bashi Mwana was amazing intro for that episode. and Run Through the Jungle at the end of the last episode. gahhh edit: and Fleetwood Mac's 'Oh Well'. The Black Crowes used to do a killer cover of that back in the day.
Man what a great show. So pumped for next week. UFO stuff is retarded but at least its not part of the plot really.
It's great, but Leftovers Season 2 is at least in a tie with it. Two of the best seasons of TV at the same time for anyone watching these. Unfortunately not many people are.
So about the UFO. It didn't bother me at all. Maybe I am off based, but I think the point is that the story is so far from true that they are trying to show how absurd it all is, and the UFO is just the punctuation mark on the absurdity of the opening credits. And then of course there is this from Minnesota history which I think is what they are mirroring... http://www.mprnews.org/story/2015/10/27/fargo-val-johnson-incident
